DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, February 12, 2023

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:25 LRL 1st RATIONALMILLENNIAL (#4, 8-1) graduated over course and distance, and cuts back slightly in trip after improved effort for $12,500 nine days ago. Bumped a couple of times in the opening furlong, she tracked the slow pace from in between, then swung five wide into the stretch. Passed a couple of tired horses to finish fourth behind the rail-skimming winner. Barn is 3 for the last 13 (23%, $3.97 ROI) with dirt horses returning in ten days or less. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
1:25 LRL 3rd ALWAYS FORWARD (#9, 10-1) broke two lengths slow in debut, then raced four/three wide over a rail-friendly surface before finishing with minor interest. Likely overmatched when hiked up to $24,000 in first off the Corrales claim. Broke poorly again, was pinched at the start, saved ground in last behind a favored pacesetting runaway's slow fractions, then never threatened. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
1:55 LRL 4th HAMPDEN LANE (#5, 10-1) outran his odds here last month. Tracked the pace from a tight pocket, altered course three wide turning into the stretch, then grinded along for the place. Perhaps the improvement was simply due to the wet track, but his Beyers are going the right way, and he'll offer a fair price on the tote. Could use a bit of pace help up. Cedeno departs for Crimson Rocket. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
2:01 OP 2nd JOLLY TOMMY (#3, 9-2) shortens up a tad to a mile and his best recent races have come at the distance. He also draws an improved post over his last start. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
2:15 GG 1st GOVERNOR ARTHUR (#3, 4-1) can win this weak conditional $3,200 claimer at a mile if he can repeat his last race when third against a similar field on Jan. 7. Winless in his last 10 starts since November 2021, Governor Arthur is the only two-time winner in a field of six. He can be a factor from slightly off the pace. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race
2:37 GP 6th Still eligible for an open 1x after dominating a Fla-bred 1x with an eye-catching 91 Beyer, STARSHIP RENEGADE (#5, 7-2) will find himself facing a different type of animal while still good enough to make it through; lightly raced 5yo sure can show a kick when things set up the right way. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race
3:48 TAM 7th CALISUE (#9, 6-1) was a game winner in that turf debut, and she was flattered when the runner-up returned to score in her return, scoring easily and posting a 51 Beyer in the process; meets winners after that maiden score but perhaps good enough given a clean trip and a contested pace to chase. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
4:07 OP 6th LANDSLID (#7, 10-1) is a class play as one who has been facing steeper. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
4:25 AQU 8th UNO (#4, 8-1) sprinted off the layoff two back and went evenly, then got involved on the pace last time vs. a stronger field and wound up letting go in the stretch; has something to prove at this level but this is not a strong field and he can get the right kind of trip this time at a price. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
4:36 GP 10th BREATH AWAY (#8, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marty McGee). | Get PPs for this race
4:50 TAM 9th PERFECT SPEIGHTY (#1, 6-1) had more trouble than the running line might indicate in that return from the layoff, steadying a couple of times and in fact checking on the far turn while in traffic; he can be expected to improve here with a clean trip, though he does have to deal with the inside draw once again. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
4:55 AQU 9th BELLA COSA (#8, 10-1) made her debut sprinting on turf at Saratoga, where she was conservatively ridden while staying wide and went a bit greenly in the stretch; has some dirt in her pedigree and might be set to put that experience to use as she returns vs. the boys on the drop with Lasix on. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
5:05 GP 11th STORMY SOUL (#6, 5-1) was 2-1 in a similar $10k Tapeta dash when failing to be much of a threat in his first start off the Drexler claim; did have some early trouble that day when failing to show his customary speed; now gets Saez when looking to redeem in what's another well-matched group to end a busy day. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race
