DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, December 3, 2023

DRF Staff|Dec 02, 2023
Gulfstream Park racing August 2020
Ryan Thompson/Coglianese Photos First post for Gulfstream racing is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:10 GP 1st FALFURRIAS (#2, 8-1) comes up tagged while also switching to the turf for first time in the opener. Kin to $153K grass earner Blameless out of a SW turf mare. Held own in most recent work with Heartened who is coming off a sharp second against MSW competition over the Big A turf in his only start. -Mike Welsch

1:25 LRL 3rd Lots of changes for GOODBYE NOTE (#5, 5-1), who moves turf to dirt, adds blinkers, and is listed as a new gelding. Faced Inveigled in both dirt starts, and that one returned to run second in the James F. Lewis Stakes with an 82 Beyer. Saved ground in midpack in his second start against two next-out winners, then finished evenly along the fence. Has a good stalking gear for barn that went 3 for the last 7 (43%, $4.23 ROI) with juvenile maidens adding blinkers and switching from grass to dirt. -Dan Illman

1:34 WO 2nd LAPOCHKA (#5, 6-1) had no shot while racing wide throughout over a strong rail-favoring track last time when fourth. The venerable 10yo annexed his previous start under Wilson and should be along for a high placing if the track is playing fair. -Ron Gierkink

1:36 GP 4th GLOSSY LIFE (#6, 6-1) second best behind Cat One late this summer at Indiana, the latter flattering effort when finishing second in an N2L allowance dash with a 64 Beyer here in her local bow. Not facing anything close to that kind in this spot. -Mike Welsch

1:46 AQU 4th MENDED WE STAND (#3, 6-1) was pegged as a turf horse by her original connections but picked up the maiden win in a dirt race - albeit when dropped in class in a race rained off the grass; stepped up in a big way to win first off the claim for a very good barn last time; threat if she can build on that last one shipping in. -Mike Beer

2:05 GP 5th CLASSIFY (#2, 8-1) ran off the screen to popular maiden win stretching to today's distance in just her second career start and working forwardly ever since. Eligible to handle jump to next level with expected improvement in third start of his form cycle while trying state breds for first time here. -Mike Welsch

2:33 WO 4th DREAM ON BABY (#7, 15-1) was announced as a first-time gelding after the card began last out and proceeded to run a hole in the wind when beating $10K maidens with a 71 Beyer, which is the Beyer par for this $25K NW2 class. -Ron Gierkink

3:20 LRL 7th DOLICE VITA (#4, 5-1) might be a bit better than he appears on paper as he makes third start following 126-day layoff. Might have needed that race two back when chasing sharp Bob Marco (returned to win a $16,000 starter with an 82 Beyer), then was probably in a bit too steep in the Maryland Million Classic. Barbosa lands here instead of Shady Munni. -Dan Illman

3:40 AQU 8th CALLALOO (#2, 8-1) steadily improved early last year while winning a couple of starts over a one-turn mile, including that final start before the break with a 90 Beyer; appeared to really need that first start back at Saratoga and has gotten back on track in the two starts since; think he fits well here exiting a very fast race in the slop and cutting back a bit. -Mike Beer

4:03 GP 9th SAND AND SEA (#7, 8-1) obviously had little competition readily defeating Indiana breds last time but did hold own with likes of R Calli Kim in two consecutive starts prior to that outing in Ky, the latter having now won 4 in a row including the Long Island S. in her most recent start. Won only previous start locally over the Tapeta surface. -Mike Welsch

4:08 AQU 9th MYSARIA (#7, 10-1) looked like she needed the debut over a wet track when outpaced and racing on with some late interest; showed improved speed last time but wound up contesting the pace for a long way before tiring; drops. -Mike Beer

4:20 LRL 9th THE LAST JUMPSTART (#5, 5-1) was bumped leaving the gate, then steadied in the opening two furlongs when taken off the rail. Advanced inside from well off the pace, eased to the outside in the stretch, then got up for second. Barn went 4 for the last 7 (57%, $10.43 ROI) with newly-claimed runners returning in a week or less. Lack of early speed puts him at the mercy of race and pace luck, but it appears he took a step forward with blinkers. -Dan Illman

4:42 GG 3rd A sharp drop in class and a surface switch contributed to a win in a $4,000 claimer for non-winners of two for YOU KIDDING ME (#3, 5-1) on Nov. 17, his second start of the month. You Kidding Me will have his third start since Nov. 10 in this conditional $5,000 claimer. A closer, You Kidding Me should have a pace to follow. The class hike is subtle, giving the 4-year-old gelding a chance for consecutive wins for the first time in his career. -Steve Andersen

6:25 DMR 7th East Coast shipper FLUFFY SOCKS (#10, 5-1) can upset stablemate/potential favorite WHITEBEAM in this G1 turf mile for fillies and mares. 'SOCKS was compromised by slow fractions last out, third in a race that set up wrong for her closing style. The race was dominated by speed; the late-runners never had a chance. -Brad Free

6:40 GG 7th ENCOLPION (#6, 4-1) ran a better-than-looked fifth in a maiden race at five furlongs on Nov. 19 that should serve as a good prep for this $25,000 claimer for maidens at six furlongs. Encolpion had her debut on the synthetic track on Nov. 19, her sixth career start, and closed well despite a wide trip to be nearest the front at the finish. She raced against tougher classes of runners in Southern California earlier this year and should appreciate this easier group. -Steve Andersen

7:10 GG 8th MOOGIE SON (#1, 7-2) will start at 1 1-8 miles for the first time in this allowance race and should be able to handle the distance judging from his last two starts. On Nov. 17, Moogie Son closed from last of nine to finish second by three-quarters of a length in a one-mile race. His last win was a come-from-behind score in a starter allowance race at 1 1-16 miles at Santa Rosa in August. -Steve Andersen
