DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, December 15, 2024

DRF Staff|Dec 15, 2024
American Mandate (2) finishes second in a December 2018 maiden race at Aqueduct
Joe Labozzetta/NYRA First post for Aqueduct racing is scheduled for 11:40 a.m. ET on Sunday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:30 OP 1st Lemon Muffin, the winner of last season's Grade 3 Honeybee at Oaklawn, will see action later on the card Sunday. In the opener, HONDURAS PASSION (#3, 9-2) is back on dirt and she's done her best work to date on the main track. – Mary Rampellini

2:17 WO 3rd MCGILL (#1, 8-1) beat the boys in each of her last two starts, against $25K maidens and $25K winners. She's a good fit Beyer-wise in this allowance/optional claimer for fillies in her debut off a claim with the hot bug Adams taking over. – Ron Gierkink

2:19 GP 5th SEMINOLE CHIEF (#6, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).

2:36 AQU 7th IN THE CHASE (#3, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).

4:04 AQU 10th CATTANI (#13, 10-1) has only started on dirt once, that on debut at Saratoga last summer, and he ran better than it looks in that spot doing a lot of chasing and getting into contention at the top of the stretch before weakening; has run fine on turf since without breaking through; interesting returning to dirt in a spot where he might get overlooked. – Mike Beer

5:14 OP 9th LASSIE MY GIRL (#3, 4-1) gives up recency to these, but has turned in a series of strong efforts against open company and owns some of the field's best Beyer Speed Figures. – Mary Rampellini

5:17 WO 9th SIMCOE (#7, 5-1) came along the inside from mid-pack for second last out behind a favorite who had everything his own way setting a slow pace, earning a big 91 Beyer in the process. Shortening up from seven to 6 1/2 furlongs isn't ideal, but the well-bred son of Uncle Mo could be rejuvenated. Apprentice Adams picks up the mount for a live barn. – Ron Gierkink

5:29 LRC 5th ISABEL LUDLOW (#4, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Michael Hammersly).
