DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, December 13, 2020

DRF Staff|Dec 12, 2020
Mutamakina wins the Long Island Stakes at Aqueduct
Chelsea Durand/NYRA Mutamakina (No. 4) won the Grade 3 Long Island in her second U.S. start on Saturday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:05 GP 1st COOL HAND COOP (#3, 7-2) gets nod in opener coming off slow starting 3rd last time, should get a little more speed to run at today. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

12:25 LRL 1st There is more than a little speed in this race and that should set the table nicely for BACKWOODS BOOGIE (#5, 7-2). His upside is the best and he is a hard trying sort to begin with. The class drop and cut back go hand in hand with today’s good race flow. Alas, the price won’t allow for an early retirement. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

12:55 LRL 2nd TWINSTINCT (#8, 20-1) has never run poorly including two starts as a 2YO before the long layoff. His return try was solid and notice that he didn’t get a lot of play versus six foes when sent off at almost 6-1. It tells us that he should be better today and we are backed up with a 31% trainer angle when this barn goes second off a long layoff. Another plus is the switch from an inside/rail post to an outside draw. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

12:50 AQU 2nd MISTER BOBBY’s (#3, 4-1) lone career win came via disqualification but he has also only raced claiming rivals twice to date, first when promoted in that race and then when missing by a nose with a 77 Beyer over this track last November; has been holing good form vs. better without winning and gets the right drop for this, though this is a strong field for the level. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:35 GP 4th MISSING LINK (#2, 6-1) comes off career best effort on graduation day when defeating a couple of next out maiden breakers to boot. Works say ready for another big effort off the freshening. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:53 LRL 4th ROUGH SEA (#3, 6-1) puts three races together for the first time since last summer and you have to like that. Connections take advantage of recent poor try to drop in class but his most recent was a troubled trip. He went wide two back when returning off the layoff. Gomez returns and he won with this gelding 4, 6, and 7 back. Race flow isn’t fast but it is fair. This horse has done all of his winning on this dirt and figures a fair price today. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:05 GP 5th BRITISH EDGE (#9, 10-1) broke tardy, got bumped leaving the gate, did well to prove easy second best behind runaway, 6-5 winner at first asking and training well for return. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:23 LRL 5th SICK PACK SARA (#9, 12-1) finds a good spot and figures a better price partly due to the fact that this barn is 0 for 12 with their debut runners. That sample is not large so we can play ball with this filly. Sire gets 9% debut winners (all sire stats are for 2YO’s only). Her dam went 4-0-0-1 and earned 2K. Lone sibling is 15-3-2-1 and earned 37K while also winning 2YO debut. This barn does show a flat bet profit with their maiden claimers. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:17 AQU 7th BEACH ACCESS (#1, 10-1) has probably spent too much time racing over his head while compiling his 3 for 26 overall record, and his best races have all come over this track and trip when properly spotted; interesting off the claim for a trainer who rarely reaches in (De Paz has claimed only four other horses so far) after bumping into a suddenly improved Hardcore Folklore last time. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:58 LRC 6th The Northern California races by ELECTORAL (#6, 5-1) include wins two of his last five; most recent races are fast enough for this $16k claiming N2X sprint. Assuming he gets pace to run at, the closer can wear them down. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:28 LRC 7th Interesting and competitive cast of $25k claiming routers, RESPECT THE HUSTLE (#9, 15-1) gets the call. The veteran has been meeting better, and running well without a win since July 2019. But he has been competitive nonetheless, and always had a touch of “class.” He won a $75k stakes race as a juvenile, and is 2-for-5 on dirt. His summer form might just be fast enough; jockey Drayden Van Dyke is delivering this meet. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
