DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, August 7, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:25 GP 1st Giving the O'Connell first-timer ANGELIC GAL (#7, 4-1) the best chance to start things off when coming well-drawn in the outer box after getting all that quality a.m. education; trainer among the tops in spotting them correctly right off the bat. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
12:55 GP 2nd Understandable that ALBA'S STAR (#6, 9-2) beat a steady fade in her 6/19 return to action, given that was her first start in more than 8 months; some of her NY priors suggest she's a mare of quality, so improvement can be expected with that needed race under her. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:11 MTH 3rd TALLAHATCHIEBRIDGE (#4, 9-2) was off the board in his first and only try on the main track to date last time out but that wasn't a bad effort, as he earned a representative figure despite failing to threaten, and the slow fractions provide him with a convenient excuse; has lots of room to improve given quicker splits up front. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:39 SAR 2nd MAJESTIC TIGER (#5, 5-1) earned a 79 Beyer winning over this distance on dirt earlier in the year; shipped up here on a class drop opening weekend and came with a strong run to fall just short after being rated back early. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:28 LRL 6th ZIP LINE TO HEAVEN (#8, 6-1) came with a determined run to score at Pimlico two back, then might have needed his last race at Colonial, his first start in 68 days. Tracked a solid pace in between horses, dropped inside on the turn, eased out in the stretch and finished evenly in a race won by favored Slippin Jimmy. Expecting a good late kick going 5 1/2 panels this afternoon. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:31 MTH 8th PIRATE PARADE (#6, 15-1) just missed in his latest after setting the pace from the start, another solid effort in a string of same since March; his strategy is clear, as he has not shown he can sit off the pace and make one run, and he has license to steal this if he can shake loose in the opening stages and back down the fractions. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:33 LAD 2nd THISGUYCANFLY (#5, 9-2) ran OK on the grass 1 and 3 back but he isn't bred to like the green. We think he is just getting better. Now he returns to his best surface all with Flores up who rode 2 and 3 back. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:36 LRL 8th HEADS OR TAILS (#2, 8-1) is a half-brother to two turf winners out of a dam that was stakes-placed routing on the grass. His sire, Goldencents, connects with 15% of turf sprinters compared with the 12% industry average. Couldn't step with favored Jake Rocks in recent dirt sprint at Belmont, but seems well-placed for circuit debut. Expect good early speed here. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:42 GP 9th Fully aware that the rival just to his inside will be a single to end many a Rainbow ticket, but let's give NIPPON (#7, 8-1) the upset chance over THE BEAST when debuting for Orseno, whose first-timer stats belie the capabilities he's shown in nearly a half-century on the track; works look fine, and obviously the $12.5k tag doesn't ask too much. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:53 MTH 11th VISION BOARD (#9, 6-1) didn't get much race flow help in either of his last two, including his latest, which marked his first start off a freshening; trainer Jose D'Angelo does well with runners making their second starts off a layoff and this closer can be considered an upgrade candidate given more help from the speeds. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:01 LAD 3rd SISTER SEEK (#6, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:33 DMR 2nd GIRL RANGER (#6, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Brad Free). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:50 SR 3rd HARBOR'S ROSE (#7, 9-2) was a well-beaten fourth in her debut at Golden Gate Fields on June 11, a race Opening Buzz won by seven lengths. Harbor's Rose raced in traffic on the turn. While she was never going to threaten Opening Buzz, she was beaten only 1 1-2 lengths for third. In the last two months, Harbor's Rose has had several quick workouts. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:00 HST 3rd BAKFIRE BABY (#2, 8-1) ran an improved race coming off a layoff in her latest while facing boys at this level and the 53 Beyer she received is the best last-race figure in the field She could be sitting on a big effort in her second start back for Henson who the past five years has a 21% strike rate and $2.44 ROI with horses making their second start following a layoff between 45-180 days. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:13 SAR 10th FIELDSTONE (#8, 6-1) won his turf debut early last year then improved in his next two starts while falling short; lost a second win to the stewards last summer when earning an 83 Beyer; third off the layoff dropping in class. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:00 HST 5th ROLLIE'S SPIRIT (#2, 6-1) got off to a poor start in his debut and then ran off with his rider to force his way into contention going into the first turn. He showed some talent and has a right to move forward with the experience behind him. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
9:37 DMR 10th This stake for Cal-bred 2yo fillies is a good spot for a longshot swing. Second-start maiden CHEDDA CASH (#4, 8-1) can upset. She showed speed in works prior to her debut, but did not break sharply first out, got stuck behind runners, but showed late run to finish third. She galloped out in front of all but the winner in a better-than-looked debut. With a race under her belt, more speed than obvious, and ability to finish, CHEDDA CASH can surprise second time out. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
