DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, August 6, 2023
?q=100)
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.
12:50 GP 1st The card Sunday puts the spotlight on 2-year-olds. In the opener, MAYHEMINTHEPALACE (#4, 4-1), who did not get the break in his debut last out, can move forward for the experience of an out. The start came on dirt and he moves to Tapeta and has worked a bullet half-mile over the surface since his debut. - Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:44 SAR 2nd SHORE WAR (#6, 8-1) breezed 10-flat in April prior to selling for $350k; sire is off to a hot start with five debut winners already, and this filly is from the female family of champion filly Nest; Arnold more than capable with newcomers, and they are rarely overbet - past five years, 2yo, first-time starter, dirt: 10%, $3.52 ROI. - Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:03 MTH 4th CABRA CHICA (#1, 7-2) is in good form. She gets in light and is versatile. The last two times that this filly started from the rail in a dirt sprint she finished 2nd and 1st. Beaten favorite angle applies today if you like that. Six furlongs is her best distance at 15-4-2-3. - Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:07 CBY 3rd CHOCOLATEICECREAM (#4, 3-1) is feeling great. His last race came back key when 2 of 6 returned to win with figs of 79 and 55 (another finished 2nd with a 74 Beyer speed figure). We have seen this horse get good before and he often holds his improved form over multiple races. We like that connections find a spot where this guy can't be claimed. Win rider stays put and race flow is fine. - Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:26 SAR 5th GOLDINI ($4, 6-1) scored in an off-turf race three back with a career-best figure; made his last two starts vs. some tougher horses on the grass to no avail; back to dirt and dropping back down for a trainer sending out live horses at the meet thus far. - Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:56 MTH 8th THREE CARATS (#7, 6-1) was stuck on the rail in only her second start but broke decent and won at 10-1. This is the same horse that broke last in her debut but still passed runners and beat half the field home. We spy a recent work which can only help. What if this 3YO isn't done improving? We like that win rider keeps the faith. - Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:08 LRL 8th STREET LUTE (#7, 5-2) (1,130 lbs. on 7/1) was taken in hand to track her favored stablemate's slow pace from the inside, raced in a tight pocket entering the turn, eased out into the stretch, and kept trying hard to the wire. Like this outside post position for her this afternoon as it gives the rider plenty of options, and she'll probably take up a tracking position. - Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:13 GP 8th ALEX'S STRIKE (#6, 3-1) ran a big race off the bench last out and has reason to move forward in his second start since April. - Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:54 WO 8th TAKE CHARGE SOUSI (#6, 5-2) dusted maidens two back with an 89 Beyer before a narrow loss at this level under regular rider Vives June 25. He's worked thrice leading to this seven-furlong contest, and should make some noise from his favorable outside draw. - Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:10 SAR 8th STREAMING NOW (#8, 12-1) was immediately in charge after a sharp start in her career debut, and she never gave that MSW field a chance thereafter with a strong finish; the two next-out winners from that heat scored on turf, but the first four across the wire after her all returned to earn improved figures on the main track. - Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:54 SR 5th The first-time starter OM FIRE (#3, 2-1) may be worth a chance on the basis of a few solid works through July for trainer Andy Mathis. The gelding has little to beat in this field of six $12,500 maiden claimers at five furlongs. Om Fire may show speed, judging from a quick three-furlong work from the gate in 35.20 seconds at Pleasanton in July. Om Fire is by Om, who had a winner from his first crop at Sacramento on July 30 with Zen State. - Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
8:09 DMR 7th The inside post is a challenge for CALIFORNIA TIGER (#1, 5-2), but the comeback maiden otherwise looks solid based on his runner-up finish two months ago in a similar Cal-bred maiden dirt race. He was blocked inside and behind horses, had to wait and wait for room, rallied inside, and lost by a nose. That race was five and a half, he benefits by the six-furlong trip of this maiden sprint. He can win from off the pace - Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
9:39 DMR 10th This wide-open G3 turf route for 3yos is a perfect spot for stakes-placed maiden MALTESE FALCON (#3, 5-2). He tends to find trouble, often self-caused, but since being gelded in February he has gradually improved. His last start was his best yet, runner-up in a stakes at a mile and one-quarter. He shortens to a mile and a sixteenth, packs a dynamite stretch kick, and just might mow them down. - Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
