DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, August 30, 2020

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:29 GP 2nd OLD MAIN (#3, 12-1) tried two turns on the turf in his debut and nothing is tougher. He actually ran OK for six furlongs before calling it a day. Two of three sibs beat winners. Works are solid as this colt cuts back to an elongated sprint all while losing the blinkers. -Scott Ehlers
1:00 WO 1st STREET LEGAL (#6, 8-1) is back in action on short rest off a drop-down score at a notch lower, his first turf triumph. When he gets good, he usually puts together a few strong performances. -Ron Gierkink
1:15 MT 2nd VISIONARY RULER (#5, 5-1) has some of the best Beyers in this field and he comes off a solid 2nd in his last try, a race run under conditions similar to today’s; has the tactical speed to gain position just off the speeds. -Kenny Peck

1:32 WO 2nd SANDY BAY (#2, 8-1) pressed a slow early tempo and then dropped back to a stalking position before coming back on to take a recent $25K NW3 tilt by daylight. His tactical speed may come in handy in this shorter N1X, a level that this barn often wins at with former claimers. -Ron Gierkink
1:42 MTH 3rd EVIL MONKEY (#7, 8-1) was against the race flow in each of his last two races, pressing the issue from the start in a sprint which set up well for closers last time and racing off the pace in a race where speed held an edge two back; his latest Beyer (72) indicates he could be cycling to his best 2019 form, and if he takes another step forward he’s good enough to win this. -Kenny Peck
2:02 GP 5th PRO QUALITY (#7, 20-1) is a homebred that broke dead last in his debut while not getting a ton of tote respect. Great, it helps today’s price. Winner from debut returned to beat OC75/N1X foes while earning a 79 Beyer. So far, 2 of 2 have returned to win from that race (other Beyer is unavailable at this time). This barn is 2 for 5 with second time starters. This gelding goes from an inside post to an outside one and we always like that. -Scott Ehlers

3:06 GP 7th LOVE IN HER EYES (#10, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).
3:50 WO 6th COACH LORI (#6, 6-1) was jostled early and then lacked room along the inside when third two back in an N1X for 3yo fillies on the Tapeta. Her last try on the grass wasn’t bad, and she could mow down all the speed in this 5 1/2-furlong N1X. -Ron Gierkink
4:10 MTH 8th POSTINO’S VOW (#8, 7-2) was moving well enough through the lane last time, though too late to catch up with the gate-to-wire winner, who controlled the issue from the start; there seems to be more speed in this field, to her inside and out, and given a contested pace up front she may be able to make the last run under apprentice Ferrin Peterson. -Kenny Peck

4:14 GP 9th MARCELINO (#6, 9-2) just ran better. Last summer this gelding put 3 wins together and did so going short on this lawn. What if the layoff has this gelding feeling great again? Versatile style is another plus as is form cycle. -Scott Ehlers
4:23 WO 7th ENNIS THE MENACE (#4, 6-1) ran well in two of his three Tapeta starts under Stein. He could make a smooth transition to the grass because he’s a half-brother to three turf winners, including stakes-placed Fresh Princess. -Ron Gierkink
10:00 DMR 11th YA BEAUTY (#1, 7-2) blew the start in her U.S. debut, had more trouble in the lane yet rallied nicely to be a close-up 7th. She can benefit from that outing, gets blinkers and has worked well since. – Michael Hammersly
