DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, April 7, 2024

DRF Staff|Apr 07, 2024

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:25 LRL 1st TITIAN TYRANT (#7, 8-1) dueled and paid the price here March 22, fading to 5th in a race like this. In her defense, not only did she duel it was her first try vs. winners. It's nice to see no drop or layoff and her speed can help her flee the outside post. -Michael Hammersly

1:32 KEE 2nd Low-profile connections inject value into J. P. RACE (#7, 8-1), who fits squarely here based on the established dirt form. Just ignoring that CD route flop last fall - pressed a strong pace while in too tough returning from a layoff. Somewhat compromised by poor start in last. -Marcus Hersh

1:42 GP 2nd QUEEN VALENTINA (#8, 7-2) did not get the best of trips from rail last time, checking early, swinging wide, switching leads a bit late but still showed some late run in second start over local sod and might just benefit from the outside starting position today. -Mike Welsch

1:55 TAM 4th GOLDEN GLIDER (#6, 6-1) ran a decent race off the bench in that last one even though he was off the board, as he was moving well enough through the lane and he earned a good figure, and he has license to improve today with that race under his belt, and with a contested pace likely to develop in front of him; thinking he can run them all down late given a clean trip. -Kenny Peck

2:04 KEE 3rd Not only has TIZZY INDY (#10, 10-1) not seen a claiming tag since an easy $20K maiden win last fall at CD over a one-turn mile configuration similar to this trip, he faced (imprudently) many of the best 3yo dirt route horses at Fair Grounds over the winter. Been running routes and this cut-back to an extended one turn is going to suit him. Positive signs about current condition come from the two works since his most recent start. -Marcus Hersh

2:28 TAM 5th ESCAPE ROOM (#6, 6-1) was never a threat in that turf debut last time but she had some traffic trouble there, and the figure she posted puts her in the mix with these; Gulfstream shipper should find the locals to be more her speed. -Kenny Peck

2:36 KEE 4th A moderate Beyer Speed Figure for YES INDEED (#3, 6-1) out of her second-start maiden win, but she finished off solidly enough after pressing a faster-than-par pace and won with plenty in the tank over a S. Asmussen-trained filly who might at least be okay, and I liked the way she traveled through the race. Plenty of third-start upside in an N1X allowance open to an improver. -Marcus Hersh

3:18 GP 5th DARLING DARLEY (#3, 10-1) back for a third try following lengthy hiatus. Set rapid pace after hesitating at break, rushed to lead when stretching back around two turns in latest. Could be sitting on best yet while getting Lasix for first time here. Figures to carry that speed a lot further at a square price today. -Mike Welsch

3:33 TAM 7th LALOBA FEROZ (#9, 6-1) makes her third start off the layoff and comes off a deceptively good try, where she made a big mid-race move to make the lead down the backstretch before flattening out late; can run them all down given a better-timed run. -Kenny Peck

3:50 OP 5th SHE'S NOT A JOKE (#2, 6-1) is a consistent performer who has proven a strong fit at this level. -Mary Rampellini

4:00 SA 1st REMOTE (#7, 5-1) gets the call in this N2L claiming turf-mile scramble. He has run fairly well recently against better company; his runner-up finish two back in a starter allowance might be good enough. This is the first time since late 2022 REMOTE is running in a race in which he actually figures as a contender. -Brad Free

4:54 OP 7th OWN THE FIELD (#3, 10-1) ran a fine race off the bench last time and would seem to have reason to move forward in her second start since November. -Mary Rampellini

5:04 AQU 8th THISTLE (#7, 8-1) had no chance with favored Predicted controlling the front when dropped to this level off the layoff last time, though he did have a pretty good finish of his own in that spot; tactical from the outside and looks well-spotted. -Mike Beer

5:26 OP 8th In the Eclipse, TUT'S REVENGE (#7, 12-1) seeks to become the fifth next-out winner to emerge from a Jan. 27 sprint at Oaklawn. He was just edged in the race that has seen fifth-place finisher Radical Right came back to take a $62.5K optional claimer at OP with a Beyer of 79; sixth-place finisher Ruggs win a $25K claimer at OP with a Beyer of 82; seventh-place finisher Stayed in for Half take an allowance at Hou with a Beyer of 87; and ninth-place finisher Ninja Warrior account for, a $62.5K starter allowance, at OP with a Beyer of 88. -Mary Rampellini

9:15 GG 7th TIMELY COMFORT (#5, 7-2) seems well-placed for a breakthrough win in his third start in this $8,000 claimer for maidens. The gelding showed substantial improvement to finish a game second in his second start on March 17, disputing a quick pace before losing narrowly to Alphabetical Order. They were well clear of the trailing four runners. In this field of nine, Timely Comfort is expected to be near the front again. -Steve Andersen
