DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, April 13, 2025

DRF Staff|Apr 13, 2025
Gulfstream Park dirt racing, 2018
Barbara D. Livingston First post for Gulfstream racing is scheduled for 12:50 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:10 AQU 1st DERBYNESS (#5, 3-1) has improved since being claimed by these connections last summer while proving to be effective from on and off the pace; dropped in class to post the lone victory for Russell, but has finished second in four of his five starts since, including two near-misses; cuts back around one turn. – Mike Beer

1:48 GP 3rd MORE THAN GLORY (#7, 12-1) gets good race flow as there is some speed in here. She goes second time this sod which can only help. She did beat over half the field home in her most recent. Is today the last chance for a good price? – Scott Ehlers

2:04 KEE 3rd SALAMIS (#10, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh).

2:42 LRL 6th KAZ CREED (#14, 5-1) might not make it in, but he seems to be entered here with a purpose; gelding dropped in class at Penn National last time out and improved while fighting for the early lead at a mile; last year, Kravets claimed three horses and shipped them to Laurel, winning once and never finishing out of the money. – Patrick Moquin

2:51 GP 5th CARNANE (#5, 6-1) exits a key race where 2 of 4 returned to win with figs of 54 and 47. This filly showed promise on the grass before the layoff. Her last few are better and now connections return this filly to the green which is what we like best. Her turf Tomlinson of 369 is strong. Second out for new barn can't hurt and she won't be that far off a medium pace. – Scott Ehlers

3:08 KEE 5th Was quite taken with BEECHMONT's (#7, 20-1) work video into his career debut - where he didn't come close to running like his breezes suggested. Not giving up! The drop from MSW comes in a $100K maiden-claimer, meaning connections also aren't giving up. And not only does this barn have a very strong record with second-time starters, some of them improve -- like he'll need to - by leaps and bound from race 1 to race 2. Trainer B Cox the last five years 5-13 winners with first-time starters in Keeneland dirt-sprint maiden claimers. – Marcus Hersh

3:30 OP 5th There are a number of capable sorts in this competitive race. AWOL (#5, 6-1) faced steeper last time. – Mary Rampellini

3:49 AQU 6th EDDIE MARIE (#6, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).

4:32 GP 8th SHESINAMOOD (#6, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).
