DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, October 8, 2022

DRF Staff|Oct 07, 2022
Woodbine inner turf 2021
Michael Burns Woodbine's feature race on Sunday will be run at 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:52 GP 2nd LUNA ANTONIA (#1, 5-1) back to selling ranks returning home after having some success this summer in N.J. handled this surface well enough during winter meet to suggest she'll be a good fit here. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

1:00 KEE 1st Nearly 11 months after a very encouraging MSW debut over the KD turf course, ROAN FOR THE ROSE's (#8, 8-1) connections are still highly valuing a homebred colt by a $5K stud. Bring him back for $50K and try the dirt - and, you know, they've been watching the horse train on dirt. First Lasix. Guessing he has plenty more speed than he showed in lone start. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race

1:31 KEE 2nd Trainer Rusty Arnold Arnold's past fall-meet 2yo MSW performers also tended to outrun their odds, and I think WORK OF FICTION, (#2, 20-1) can do the same. Guessing she hated the wet track in her career debut. Steady recent work. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race

1:51 WO 2nd LOVE TO RUN (#3, 6-1) failed to stay 1 5/16 miles last time over the undulating course at Kentucky Downs. She could take some catching in this mile and a sixteenth N1X on the Tapeta, over which she's been working fast. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

1:52 GP 4th NATIONAL UNITY (#1, 6-1) getting ample class relief and did finish a neck in front of next out Fl. bred MSW winner No Name Dude two back. Well spotted to grab diploma for this tag. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

3:38 KEE 6th Didn't know CADAMOSTO (#9, 10-1) even had enough speed to chase the very strong pace of very fast Thats Right in the Mahoney at Saratoga - to say nothing about that being a suboptimal trip for the colt. Broke from the rail and had worked fast the week before on SAR turf after being shipped from Ireland - maybe he was just too keyed up. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race

3:44 LRL 7th RAD PAISLEY (#10, 9-2) has improved since being claimed by Kieron Magee. Gelded by the new connections, he swapped out blinkers for cheekpieces and responded with three solid efforts. Set the pace last time out at Delaware, opened a clear lead at the three-sixteenths, but couldn't close the deal on pace-presser Powerfully Built in the final half-furlong. Magee does well with horses running back on short notice (5 for the last 9, 56%, $3.07 ROI following 6-10 day layoffs). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race

4:30 SA 2nd MASTERING (#6, 4-1) won this N2X dirt-route condition on this track in spring 2021, he makes his second start back from a layoff while entered for the optional $80k claim tag. Normally an off-the-pace runner, he meets a field with speed to run at. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race

4:32 WO 7th WEDGEWOOD (#3, 12-1) worked powerfully from the gate before his heartbreaking loss in the restricted Vice Regent Stakes going short on the inner turf Sept. 3. He's worked strongly in the interim and could be construed as a live longshot in this G2 fixture. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

4:37 GP 9th WIN OR CELLAR (#8, 12-1) lost all chance when off slow and rushed up into traffic near the rail in most recent try. Gets another look getting outside draw vs same kind today. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

4:50 LRL 9th The late time GHOSTLIGHTER (#8, 6-1) moved from turf to dirt, he gave a sharp finish to miss by less than a length. He has good tactical speed, an aggressive rider, and might find his way close to the pace at a solid price. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race

5:00 HST 1st RACING RIVER (#2, 6-1) sat just off the lone speed before romping over easier in an improved performance in his latest and with four of the six horses in the field wanting the lead he could get the right kind of trip with the leading rider picking up the mount from Williams who bails to ride Bills Smokn Bullet. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race

5:39 WO 9th MYLADY (#8, 8-1) brings solid form in major German stakes for 3yos to this G1, which has been won by numerous sophomore fillies from Europe in the past. She's adding Lasix while contesting a distance that should suit her to a T, according to her connections. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

5:51 FNO 3rd The first-time starter PAPA TIGER (#5, 6-1) has drawn the outside post in a small field of five in a maiden special weight at six furlongs. Papa Tiger is a half-brother to the active 4-year-old All Dialed In, and is out of Nuffsaid Nuffsaid, a stakes winner at Aqueduct. Trainer Andy Mathis has a respectable record with debut runners, and the presence of Assael Espinoza is another positive sign. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race

6:23 FNO 4th CLASS PROOF (#3, 10-1) has lost his last two starts at short prices after winning a $12,500 claimer for maidens at Golden Gate Fields in June. Claimed for $6,250 by Jack Steiner at Sacramento in July, Class Proof will be fitted with blinkers for this race, which he wore when he beat maidens. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race

7:00 HST 5th ARUNDEL CASTLE (#1, 5-1) seemed lost early but she finished with a rush and galloped out strong when she debuted at this level and distance Sept 5. Her only sib, Who Hoo Thats Me, finished third in the $250K Sleepy Hollow as a 2-year-old last year, and is a two-time winner at Belmont with $195K in earnings. She could have a bright future and it may start here at what could be a decent price. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race

7:30 HST 6th AROLLERCOASTERRIDE (#6, 4-1) was going around three turns for the first time when he just missed in the Grade 3 BC Derby and considering his bullet five-furling interim move in 58.60 seconds Oct. 1, he could be sitting on a huge effort here. He sheds eight pounds and could be gone if he breaks on top in a race lacking pure speed. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race

7:40 WBS (Harness) 3rd THE AMAZINGSANDO (#6, 10-1) raced well against a tough claimer last time and he kicked home with his best final quarter since he started back on 8/29. He projects to get a perfect pocket trip following leader (8) FULL DISCLOSURE here and he can get past that rival late in the mile. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race

7:56 MED 3rd PIVOTAL RUN (#4, 4-1) is a DRF Best (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race

8:24 MED 4th LADY SIMPATIA (#3, 6-1) didn't run to her best figures in her first start on this circuit last time out but that was due to a tough trip, as she was involved in a race-long duel on the lead from the start; this looks to be a better situation for her in terms of the pace scenario and she can take these a long way if she's able to get away with an unpressured early lead. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race

8:53 FNO 9th MY SPY (#1, 6-1) will start from the rail in this $4,000 claimer for non-winners of two. She has set the pace and won, but her best chance may be to stalk JAYCEE or CLEAR WIN in the opening quarter-mile of this five-furlong race. Trained by Jonathan Wong, My Spy is making a rapid turnaround following a fifth in a $12,500 claimer for non-winners of two at Golden Gate Fields on Sept. 30. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race

11:23 RP 8th EXOTIC'S BEAR (#9, 6-1) split the field in his debut to earn what ranks as this field's best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
