DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, October 3, 2020

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:14 GPW 3rd TONE FEELIN (#3, 10-1) tried two turns and the turf in only his second start and that came as a 2YO versus special weights. He was only two lengths back at the 1/8th pole in said race only to tire some late. He was washed off the green in his first start as a 3YO but still ran a solid second. He is bred to love the grass and should improve in second career grass start. -Scott Ehlers
1:17 MTH 2nd CANOOCHEE (#6, 7-2) is down in price and comes off a solid try, rallying for the place, and she was flattered when that runner returned to score in her next start; the resulting Beyer gives her strong credibility vs. this field and she may well be able to make the last run given an honest pace up front. -Kenny Peck
1:41 WO 2nd BELLA NINA (#1, 8-1) raced wide throughout after getting away slowly when fifth for $20K following a nine-month layoff and off a $7.5K claim a month ago. -Ron Gierkink
1:50 GPW 4th TIN ROOF RUSTY (#3, 8-1) ran evenly in his debut and that is fine with us as it doesn’t destroy today’s price while gaining valuable race experience. Did you know that two of three sibs beat winners? There is no panicky drop all while the blinkers go ON which is a 21% move for team Danner. Oh, distance breeding is fine. -Scott Ehlers
2:09 MTH 4th PLAN OF ATTACK (#1, 5-1) was caught well off the pace in that last run and that left him with too much to do late but he rallied with interest to get the place at a square price; he ran better than his running line would indicate in his first start against winners, also on the turf, and he may be able to run them all down late here if able to stay closer from his inside post. -Kenny Peck

2:43 WO 4th CITY FASHION (#11, 8-1), by the late/great City Zip, is bred to be a turf sprinter and could wake up off the BS/Drexler claim. -Ron Gierkink
3:20 WO 5th GAMBLE’S SILVER (#5, 5-1) checked in fourth behind three fillies who all came back to run well in her improved second race, including Sunspite, who subsequently ran second in a $100K stakes. -Ron Gierkink
4:46 MTH 10th TRACY ANN’S LEGACY (#6, 10-1) was rained off the turf in each of her last two starts, and while she won her latest easily she is probably still better when she’s sprinting on the turf, if her Beyers are any indication; she meets males today in the Buddy Raines Stakes but she may be good enough to last if the pace is moderate, as there’s not all that much speed in this field and she is quick from the gate. -Kenny Peck
4:54 WO 8th LUCKY CURLIN (#5, 5-1) worked nicely during his summer vacation, which began after he was second to the favored SHIRL’S SPEIGHT in the G3 Marine on the Tapeta July 25. The Curlin colt deserves a mulligan on the grass, on which he missed the board the only time he tried it at the Fair Grounds. -Ron Gierkink

5:23 GPW 10th TRIBUTE FLAG (#2, 15-1) is a hard trier that tries two turns for the first time. Both sibs are multiple winners while neither tried routing. This colt has some speed and draws inside. -Scott Ehlers
5:57 WO 10th STRIKE A BEAT (#9, 5-1) was cut off near the 16th pole while in the midst of his rally before going on to finish a close fourth in his latest, when he was promoted to third by disqualification. -Ron Gierkink
