Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:50 GP 1st ATOMICO (#3, 5-1) and CHEER COACH chased home 2-1 Magicshadow under similar conditions last time, should benefit from those efforts. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race  1:20 GP 2nd SHALL RETURN (#1, 5-1) well spotted right back at the N3L level while getting blinkers for the first time today. Veteran plater deserves one more look with this kind. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race 1:45 BAQ 3rd GUN MAESTRO (#2, 9-2) scored first off the claim for this trainer despite moving up in class, then made two of his next three starts on different surfaces; earned figures over wet tracks two and three starts back that make him competitive in this spot, and he wound up dueling with class-dropping Forced Ranking (returned to win again with a 93 Beyer) in that last one going seven. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race  2:04 KEE 3rd CHARTED (#1, 12-1) comes out of 5f turf races and has run marginally faster going this 6f distance on dirt. First time for a tag and if he catches a flier from this rail draw, maybe he makes the lead and doesn't come back. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race  2:20 GP 4th Lasix looks like a game changer for A KISS FOR KHOZAN (#7, 8-1) who showed marked improvement on graduation day. Taking big step up to winner's ranks and Tapeta a question but could handle the jump if taking to the surface getting the "L" again today. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race  2:31 LRL 5th LEGENDARY PHANTOM (#4, 5-1) stretches out for the first time, and there is plenty of distance in the pedigree as the dam is a half-sister to Grade 1-winning turf router Boisterous and multiple Grade 3-placed synthetic router Peyton. The second dam was a juvenile stakes-winning dirt router (94 turf Beyer). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race 3:08 KEE 5th DENIM AND PEARLS (#8, 6-1) is the 2yo sister to G3-winning 3yo Newgate and is by Into Mischief, an excellent 15% debut winners on high volume. Two fast KEE works, first with unraced Tarifa, second with unraced (entered for turf this week) Oy Vey. D & P was best in both of them, much the best in the most recent, and I liked the way she went in both those moves. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race  3:21 BAQ 6th SPEED CONTROL (#4, 8-1) breezed a solid-looking 10.3 in March before selling for $85k; Mendelssohn colt is from the female family of multiple Grade 2-winning sprinter Pomeroy's Pistol (Grade 1 placed, fourth in the BC Filly/Mare Sprint) and shows up with a strong series of works for a capable first-out trainer. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race  3:36 LRL 7th HAPPY CAT (#10, 9-2), listed as a Delaware vet scratch on 9/15, showed no rust from 323-day layoff adding Lasix and blinkers. Bounced to the lead, came to hand early on the backstretch, then was sent along when briefly confronted by the 5-1 third-place finisher. Opened up a clear lead, then had no problems in a race where there wasn't much going on behind him. This is a strong class and distance hike, but think he can relax on the lead, and has plenty of stamina in his pedigree (dam won twice at a mile; family of A.P. Indy). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race  3:54 BAQ 7th BERLONE (#1, 8-1) landed in a pair of tough MSW races early on before getting a break; started back on the drop here 16 days ago and dusted a field of maiden claimers with a solid figure; trainer 30% with a $2.80 ROI with last-out maiden winners over the past four years. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race  4:12 KEE 7th SINGLE DOT YAHT (#2, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh). | Get PPs for this race 4:39 LRL 9th NEW ROME (#12, 10-1) is unbeaten from two starts over course and trip, and looked good handling weaker earlier in the month. Brushed the side of the gate, then was hard-held in midpack behind a lively pace. Saved ground into the stretch, altered course three wide, then ran right by the leaders. He should again get pace to attack for barn that went 3 for the last 12 (25%, $3.67 ROI) with last-out winners. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race 5:16 KEE 9th Upset hunting with NOM DE PLUME (#3, 20-1), who trains on dirt at TTC but hasn't run on dirt in her three starts. All of them were encouraging if not especially fast, and do like her coming back to 7f from the two-turn starts. She'll be midpack behind a fast, contested pace and might be set to run the best race of her life by several lengths. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race  5:41 WO 9th STANLEY HOUSE (#5, 8-1) came up empty last time when he bled as the surprising favorite in the Prince of Wales Stakes on the dirt at Fort Erie. He was previously in fine Tapeta form, including an against-the-bias third in the King's Plate, and has been working right along for this engagement. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race  6:11 WO 10th BROADWAY FORCE (#7, 10-1) has been working up a storm for her return from a sabbatical and should be dangerous in her local debut for Touch'n Ride's trainer Layne Giliforte. She's by the good 15% synthetic sprint sire Violence. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race  6:24 GG 5th HOT JOURNEY (#3, 8-1) could get a beneficial trip as a stalker in a lackluster field of eight. Hot Journey, winless in 11 starts since September 2022, was second in a race at this level, $12,500 claimer who are non-winners of two, at 25-1 on Sept. 24, racing in third early. He should have a pace to chase with this group. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race  6:55 GG 6th The first-time starter CROWN MAGIC (#3, 8-1) has two appealing five-furlong workouts in the last month that suggest he can be a factor in this $12,500 claimer for maiden juveniles. Crown Magic is out of a stakes-placed mare in Patsy G and Me who is the dam of four winners, including the stakes-placed Vincero Grande. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race  7:56 GG 8th DOLCE GHOST (#3, 12-1) is quick, but is probably not fast enough to lead this field. That's a good thing. Dolce Ghost has been effective from a stalking position, and can utilize that style if a runner such as HOUSE OF MAGIC sets a fast pace. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race  8:26 GG 9th The first-time starter DESERT ROCKET (#3, 10-1) has an interesting pattern of workouts at Santa Anita in recent weeks, some quicker than others. The gelding is the first foal to race out of Desert Steel, who placed in four stakes for trainer Simon Callaghan. Desert Rocket, trained by Callaghan, is by Grazen who wins with 10 percent of all of his first-time starters, matching the national average for stallions. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race  8:35 RP 2nd ROCKET SOCKS (#8, 10-1) - who has such a clever name - is a class play as one who has seen steeper. He also owns some of the field's best Beyer Speed Figures. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race 9:31 RP 4th GRACE'S HANK (#2, 6-1) has run credible races in both of his starts and seems like one who can sit closer to the pace than ILLUSTRATOR. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race  11:51 RP 9th TABLE FOR TWO (#5, 12-1) invades from Golden Gate Fields, where he put up some strong Beyer Speed Figures. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
