DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026
:quality(75))
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
11:05 BEL 1st Since seeing him on debut, have thought OBLITERATED (#8, 10-1) would want to run as far as they write races; this is only 9F, but it's the longest 2YOs will get to travel this season; should have gotten some needed fitness out of the dirt try last time, but the bottom side of his pedigree is all turf stamina. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race
12:00 GP 1st MR. HETTY (#7, 8-1) is by a 8% debut turf sire. His dam never tried the green. Five sibs failed to hit the board on the grass. We like that connections want a route of ground in his second start and now this guy can ration his early energy a little better. Rain is in the forecast and if this comes off then that might actually be for the best. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race
12:58 LRL 3rd JUNGLE GLOW (#7, 7-2) keeps climbing the ladder regardless of the surface, as a first-level allowance taken off the turf was not enough to keep him from another commanding victory; he has now won four of his last five while switching between Ness and other trainers in four separate claims since March; there's a reason Ness keeps buying this guy back. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race
12:58 GP 3rd ROCKIN EMPIRE (#1, 15-1) is the value. That was a tough spot for his debut. His second start was actually decent. Colonial didn't work two back and we bet he wasn't acclimated to here in his most recent. He gets in light today while saving all the early ground. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race
1:23 BEL 5th Don't hold the last outing for WHAT'S UP BRO (#1, 6-1) against him; he needs to be in front to have any chance and he got bumped at the start and was unable to get forward; now he makes his first start off the claim for Wayne Potts, whose barn has woken up in recent weeks; figures to get sent forward from the rail under the apprentice and there isn't a ton of speed in here to go with him. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race
1:27 LRL 4th ASHWEEE (#7, 8-1) has finished in the money in four straight for Sillaman, and though she is clearly a little win-shy, she's also knocking on the door in a convincing fashion; she earned a career-best 47 Beyer stalking at Penn National last time, convincing her trainer to keep her home this time around. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race
4:06 GP 8th READIER (#6, 12-1) might trip out best if the two speeds push each other early, middle, and late. This horse didn't fire off the layoff but didn't break clean either. He draws outside to help the trip and has always liked this Tapeta. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race
4:08 WO 7th TALENT SHOW (#5, 6-1) extended her unbeaten record on turf to four races last out when clearing the first allowance condition after awaiting room on the turn on the main course. She could strike again going 1 1/16 miles on main course again in this conditioned allowance/optional claimer as the likely second choice while beating the favored KATIE'S GRACE. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race
4:38 BEL 10th BELMONT STREET (#2, 6-1) is still a maiden but she's kept good company in open races to start her career; improved against a decent field second time out and might actually be getting some class relief here even as she steps up into a stakes race. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race
4:45 GP 9th BRUTALLY HONEST (#4, 6-1) was trying tougher at Woodbine before coming here and beating one home. Canadian shippers often need a local race before they can acclimate. We know this filly likes this sod. A pair of recent works is just right. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race
4:48 WO 8th ANNASTAIJ (#6, 8-1) and GHOST STRIKER (#4, 10-1) are a pair of Kevin Attard-trained second-timers stretching out who are both bred to go long. Both got away slowly before missing the board at first asking. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race
5:18 BEL 11th NORDIC FYRE (#8, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (David Aragona). | Get Past Performances for this race
5:27 WO 9th BAD PENNY (#7, 15-1) was stuck in traffic along the inside before checking in fifth behind several of her current rivals second-time out in a main turf sprint. The daughter of War Front is bred to handle the move out to 7 1/2 furlongs around two turns on the inner course and could put it all together at square price. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race
6:35 WO 11th PARTY HOTLINE (#7, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get Past Performances for this race
7:30 SA 8th BALTIC FIRE (#10, 8-1) may inherit an ideal trip in this Grade 3 Goldikova Stakes for fillies and mares at a mile on turf. She has drawn a fairly wide position in post 10 in a field of 11, but is best when racing from off the pace as she displayed with a win in the restricted Osuintas Stakes at a mile on turf at Del Mar on July 25. She followed with a good fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 Mabee Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf on Sept. 6, closing from seventh of 10 to be nearest the front at the finish. - Steve Andersen | Get Past Performances for this race
8:30 SA 10th POOR CONNECTION (#11, 9-2) has not started since Aug. 6 when he finished second in an allowance race at 1 3/8 miles on turf at Del Mar after leading in the stretch. Poor Connection often races as a stalker and that style should be effective in this allowance race at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Trained by Michael McCarthy, Poor Connection starts from the outside post in a field of 11, ample time for jockey Jamie Spencer to give the 4-year-old gelding a ground-saving trip. Poor Connection won a starter allowance at 1 1/8 miles on turf in March by closing from fourth of eight. - Steve Andersen | Get Past Performances for this race
8:54 RP 4th JERRY'S LADY (#5, 5-1) was far behind a couple of today's foes here Oct.10 but that was just her second start off a layoff and she got much the best of the draw compared to those two. She has enough tactical speed to be forward. She's kin to Quality Rocker (40-11-9-2, $420K, 8-3-1-0 on turf, 5 SWs, 3 SPs). - Michael Hammersly | Get Past Performances for this race
9:22 RP 5th ANNIE ONE SOCK (#1, 9-2) dropped a bunch to this level here Oct. 21 and responded with an improved effort. She appears to have found her proper level and she has enough speed to stalk while saving ground. - Michael Hammersly | Get Past Performances for this race
9:50 RP 6th NATALIES CODE (#4, 6-1) was in too deep last time here Oct. 12 but not only was she facing much tougher she was routing for the first time and doing so in just her second start off a layoff. She's well down in class and back to sprinting and maybe all that can get her going. Five of her six sibs are winners including Natalie's Mischief (30-5-6-3, $194K, 5 SPs). - Michael Hammersly | Get Past Performances for this race
