DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026
:quality(75))
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:20 GP 1st BAY OF BENGAL (#5, 20-1) ends brief blinker experiment, might just be able to get loose on the lead in this spot if aggressively handled by the young bug rider, could get brave ala all three of his earlier victories which came in similar wire to wire fashion. - Mike Welsch | Get Past Performances for this race
2:17 BEL 5th Don't love that BILLY BUCCHERO (#9, 10-1) was entered in a turf race on Friday where he's stuck on the AE list; that suggests that there isn't much dirt intention here, but Mark Casse is probably looking to just check the surface boxes given this gelding's versatile pedigree; lost all chance at the start of his debut when he broke a step slowly and got sideswiped by a rival; wasn't really persevered with thereafter, and should progress 2nd time out, regardless of surface. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race
2:36 KEE 4th DANCE SOME MO (#1, 6-1) hasn't raced for a claiming tag in since October 2024, when he ran for this same price at KEE, going 7 furlongs 184 feet and finishing second to Banishing, who shortly thereafter turned into a triple-digit Beyer machine. Moreover, these connections made a great claim here, paying just $30K for Dance Some Mo in April 2024. In other words, the drop to a tag here need not be seen as a negative. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race
3:16 WO 5th FLATTER EFFECT (#4, 6-1) worked well the other day for a trainer with excellent first-out numbers. Freshman sire Avie's Flatter, a Canadian champion 2yo, is 1 for 7 with debuters. Her dam produced two winners from four juvenile runners, including restricted stakes winner Silent Mistake. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race
4:12 KEE 7th Ultra-super small sample size alert - data set of 1 - but Rusty Arnold did train FLASHY's (#1, 12-1) full sister to win her career debut in a turf route. One work video up for flashy - first thought was "she's pretty skinny," but as I got a broader view of the filly, skinny looked more like lanky and "route-y," and I thought even breezing on dirt she looked something like a runner. That said, this race looks like it might be loaded. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race
4:18 LRL 9th MISS PICKY (#9, 5-1) took a nice step forward in her second start off the layoff for Russell, but it still wasn't enough against older rivals, as she could only rally for third with a 76 Beyer; she clearly needs to improve again to get a win at this level, but she doesn't need to make nearly as much progress as she did last time; she could simply keep getting better with more experience for top connections. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race
4:29 BEL 9th OUR SWEET HARPIE (#5, 8-1) is making her first start against NY-breds, though it's not as if she was meeting the toughest open company field on debut at Delaware; just thought she ran like a horse who needed the experience; actually had some tactical speed early, vying for the lead in the opening furlong before she got shuffled back down the backside and got discouraged from there - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race
4:35 GP 9th EL OREJON (#9, 10-1) getting a mulligan stretching to a mile last time. Second best behind 8-5 EZ Or Nob at 6/12 two back. Should sit a nice stalking trip from the outside gate. - Mike Welsch | Get Past Performances for this race
4:44 KEE 8th 4yo STEEZE (#8, 6-1) has greater upside than many in this race, especially making his second start back from a long layoff. Finished decently last out at Ellis in a race that should move him forward into this: winner came back to score at KEE with a 97 Beyer, and runner-up exited a decent third in the Iowa Sprint Stakes. They got him out to 1 1/16 miles twice last form cycle - and learned that something like this 7f 184 feet is a better fit. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race
4:50 LRL 10th INTREPID'S LEGACY (#3, 5-1) only has an outside short to win this for Capuano, but the gelding has taken this sort of break before; yes, he needed a race the last time he did it, but it did not take long for him to run several races that could do some serious damage at this level; the gelding was in fairly consistent form earlier this year, and the rest might help him get back to another peak at a price. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race
4:54 WO 8th SOUPER GIN'S WORLD (#5, 4-1) went to the bench after a front-running fourth among three next-out winners in a July 26 maiden special mile on the inner turf. The expensive Vekoma filly has worked well for good layoff trainer Casse and should be dangerous in this seven-furlong maiden special on the main course. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race
5:22 LRL 11th DREAM OVERTURE (#6, 7-2) ran on for second with a 63 Beyer last time out, which was somewhat disappointing after she led by 1 1/2 lengths at the top of the stretch; the filly is clearly trending in the right direction for Bailes and should get the job done here, but she has questions to answer, namely whether she can maintain that tactical running style. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race
5:48 KEE 10th Debuting ELUSIVE RING (#1, 6-1) has a work pattern and workout times that catch the eye - and we also have one workout video to pair with the far less useful stuff on paper. That was her most recent drill, Oct 3. The filly at least breezes in blinkers - expect she races in them too. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race
7:30 RP 1st AKKADEVI (#2, 6-1) was no factor in her last two but both came vs. tougher and were also separated by a layoff. She now gets the most important drop in the game for a trainer who's been good with this class move. Two of her four sibs are winners including Speed King (10-3-1-0, $831K, 1 G3 SW, 1 SP, no turf starts) and Quantum Theory (turf winner). - Michael Hammersly | Get Past Performances for this race
7:30 SA 8th With 13 entrants this is the biggest field of the meet in a $12,500 claimer at six furlongs for fillies and mares who are nonwinners of two. PRIDE OF QUEENS (#1, 10-1) did not necessarily draw well on the inside, but she has won from that position, in a maiden claimer at Del Mar in August 2025. Pride of Queens does not have early speed, and that may be a blessing. - Steve Andersen | Get Past Performances for this race
7:56 MED 3rd REALLY QUICK (#1, 6-1) was up the course when last seen but that was his first and only try outside the friendly confines of the statebred ranks, and the figure she posted in that game loss two back gives her strong credibility with this field; big threat to steal this if she can break alertly from the hedge. - Kenny Peck | Get Past Performances for this race
7:58 RP 2nd HALO HOTTIE (#7, 5-1) faded at PRX July 7 but that came off a layoff vs. much tougher, then dueled and fizzled here Aug. 29 though not only did she duel she was facing tougher and racing on turf. She's back to dirt and while the class plummet is a bit disconcerting could be this is simply where she belongs. - Michael Hammersly | Get Past Performances for this race
8:00 SA 9th He is fast enough to set the pace, and equally as effective as a stalker. There is much to like about FLYOVER's (#4, 4-1) chances in the California Flag Handicap for statebreds at about 6 1-2 furlongs on the hillside turf course. A six-time winner in 12 starts, Flyover will need a peak performance to win an intriguing running of the $100,000 race. Flyover led throughout the Sensational Star Stakes for statebreds on the hillside turf course in March, a showing that would be good enough to beat these. - Steve Andersen | Get Past Performances for this race
8:30 SA 10th In his last three starts, all in stakes, SANTA BARBARIAN (#4, 3-1) has started from the inside post and finished fourth twice in two-turn races for statebreds, and ninth at 88-1 in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap on Aug. 29. Class relief has arrived in the form of a start in an optional claimer-starter allowance at a mile on turf. Santa Barbarian is helped with a draw in post 4 in a field of 10. - Steve Andersen | Get Past Performances for this race
9:20 MED 6th Thought TYRUS (#2, 6-1) ran a deceptively good race in defeat in his last try on the turf, as he was moving well late and galloped out nicely past the wire, and though he didn't earn a Beyer that fits well with the best of these runners on paper he has lots of room to improve in this nightcap if he gets faster early splits to chase; may be the right value play. - Kenny Peck | Get Past Performances for this race
9:22 RP 5th COUNT DRACULA (#6, 12-1) did some good work on turf in Texas a few months back. He's been freshened and drops and note he ran well the last two times he came back from a break. - Michael Hammersly| Get Past Performances for this race
10:46 RP 8th PARKWAY (#8, 10-1) comes here sharp and gets an encouraging price bump. Yes, his last two wins came routing but he's won before at this trip and routers speed often translate well to this 7f trip. - Michael Hammersly | Get Past Performances for this race
