DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, November 26, 2022

DRF Staff|Nov 25, 2022
Woodbine scenic
Michael Burns Woodbine's feature on Friday is a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for nonwinners of two that combines Ontario-sired allowance types with $40,000 claimers.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:25 GP 1st RED GUN (#2, 6-1) has certainly been well prepared for his debut which comes for near bottom tag on the Tapeta, with his ability to handle the surface perhaps key. By Kantharos out of a dam who banked $188K during her career. Might be precocious enough to out-foot this group. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

12:44 LRL 2nd FORT FORTITUDE (#1, 6-1) might be racing himself back into shape for his third start following a 74-day layoff. Tracked gate-to-wire winner Dialing Dixie from the rail over speed-friendly track three weeks ago, angled three wide and got up for third. A bit concerned this distance is sharp, but the price should be right for low-profile connections. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:06 TAM 2nd INDIAN BUZZ (#2, 9-2) is going to be tough to reel in if he's able to get clear without much exertion in the early stages, a scenario that seems likely to play out given the relative lack of pace among his five rivals; working well toward this first start off the short break. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:20 WO 1st SHISHKA (#4, 20-1) has been coming up empty in the lane after dueling for the lead against easier, but she could make all the running in this paceless event under the bug Amanda V. - Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:36 TAM 3rd CALZONE (#10, 7-2) is back in for a tag for the first time since he was in for $25,000 back in July, and that was his best race to date, as he closed for the place behind the early frontrunner in a race that was light on pace; meets a seemingly average field for this class level and he figures to make his presence felt late here given a clean trip and a contested pace. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:39 LRL 6th BAZINGA C (#4, 8-1) stalked outside at Penn National, was placed on a hard chase to go after the loose 7-1 pacesetter (finished second), then reeled that one in to score with career-best 85 Beyer. Two-time Laurel winner has the versatile running style to adapt to any pace scenario. Barn is 14 for the last 45 (31%, $2.34 ROI) with last-out winners returning in dirt sprints. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:51 WO 4th RACE FOR PINKS (#5, 12-1) is dropping back down to the level at which he was claimed in his penultimate start off a fourth for $25K where he ran just off a golden rail. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:23 GP 7th J P HELLISH (#10, 8-1) in dangerous hands off the claim, should have some late kick shortening up off series of longer races. Might return quick dividends for new connections if able to fire late off what figures to be lively pace scenario. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:35 TAM 7th HIGH VIBES (#9, 12-1) ran the best race of her career when last one the grass, two back, when she rated off the pace and made a late bid to miss by just a neck despite traffic trouble; she's at her best when she's able to stalk and make one run, and with that type of trip she should be a threat in the lane. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:50 TUP 5th DEVIL'S TEETH (#6, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:20 TUP 6th INTERSTELLA (#10, 12-1) is stuck outside but there ends the negatives. Sire gets 14% debut turf winners. Her dam never tried the green and this is her first grass foal. Her turf Tomlinson is a very nice 328. This filly wants two turns and has some tactical speed to help the trip. The Eikleberry barn is 22% in stakes alas they are only 7% on the turf. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:50 TUP 7th J T'S LA NENA (#6, 12-1) likes this dirt where all of her wins have come. She was a head back at the 1/8th pole in her most recent only to tire. She will be a big price and we think this is a good race to take a shot. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:43 AQU 9th BALTHUS (#3, 9-2) has improved noticeably since starting back this year, with added distance being the key; exits a good try in the Sycamore last time while trying to navigate traffic in the final furlong. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:52 WO 6th APRIL DE VELP (#7, 12-1) worked well from the gate Nov. 6 for a trainer who's having a career year. The daughter of 7% debut sire Big Screen is a full-sister to sprinter Jill, a second-out winner for $25K. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:12 AQU 10th MAMA'S GOLD (#5, 8-1) raced up after the pace and dueled for a long way before weakening in a race that went to closers in his debut at Saratoga; half-brother to multiple stakes-winning sprinter Rotknee ran better than it looks in that spot and can improve quickly with that experience behind him. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:21 WO 7th STARLIGHT RIDGE (#5, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:00 DMR 4th This starter allowance sprint is a good spot to take a shot at a price with last-out maiden-20 winner BALI DANCER (#4, 8-1). Her first eight starts were bland, but her DMR win opening day was better than the modest figure. Hounded through fast fractions, she shook off her pace rival and won clear. Sharp win. She will attempt an ambitious hike in class to starter allowance, while facing other speed and stretching out an extra furlong to six and a half, but the speedster has never been better and just might post an upset. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:21 WO 11th RED MAVRIK (#3, 20-1) got hung out five-wide on the first turn and continued to take the overland route the rest of the way while making a bid and then fading in a recent route experiment. Turning back to a long sprint could enable the struggling 4yo to get back on the beam. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:15 GG 8th There are high hopes for GRAZEN IN THE SUN (#3, 10-1) and it is easy to see why. The 3-year-old filly won her debut at 13-1 in a maiden special weight race at six furlongs on Oct. 29 by closing from fifth in a field of eight to win by 1 1-4 lengths. In this field, Grazen in the Sun figures to have a stalking trip again with Crystal Proof and Hiis Reina capable of leading. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:45 GG 9th TAMA SETS DA PACE (#10, 8-1) overcame a poor start to finish a respectable second as the 9-5 favorite in her debut in an $8,000 claimer for maidens at five furlongs on Oct. 28. She starts from the outside in this large field and deserves another chance with the expectation that she will have a better start. The field lacks depth and Tama Sets Da Pace seems likely to show improvement. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

10:10 MED (Harness) 11th EL REY (#5, 6-1) was raced conservatively as expected last time and came home with good energy for third to easily make this final. Captaintreachrous colt saw the light bulb go on a handful of starts back and he lands a perfect post here to stalk just off the pace and pounce. – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

11:23 RP 8th DECLINED (#3, 9-2) is a consistent performer who was second last out in a race that went in good time. He's moving back to the distance of his last win. -Mary Rampellin | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
