With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:45 GP 1st EAST LEX (#7, 6-1) turned in big turf bow behind wire to wire winner Auburn Hills despite being forced to break from post 14 that day. Been given ample time to recuperate from the effort. Well spotted off that effort for local debut. -Mike Welsch 1:00 OP 1st FIRST ALTERNATE (#7, 6-1) ran well on the cutback from a mile and a sixteenth to six furlongs last out and could be even sharper here, in her second straight sprint start. On a pedigree point, she’s a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Now I Know. -Mary Rampellini 1:27 TAM 3rd CALYPSO KEY (#6, 4-1), like most of these, has never been this far, but she does figure to appreciate the extra ground, as she simply ran out of ground in her last try on the turf; she was well up the track in her latest but that race, rained off the turf and run in the slop, can be safely ignored. -Kenny Peck 1:45 GP 3rd AJHAR (#1, 9-2) hesitated at the start, rushed up rail, fanned 4-5 wide turning for home, hang on willingly enough stretching to a mile in latest. Working well since joining Pletcher stable and Irad takes the call. Third could be the charm from advantageous inside draw. -Mike Welsch 2:04 OP 3rd BEBOP SHOES (#3, 6-1) is a consistent sort who could be sitting on a peak race in his third start since October. -Mary Rampellini 2:36 OP 4th BANK (#11, 3-1) was third in a quick maiden allowance last out and the start was his first since October. For the effort, he earned what ranks as this field’s best career Beyer Speed Figure. On a pedigree point, Bank is a half-brother to Grade 1-winning millionaire Brilliant Speed. -Mary Rampellini 2:46 GP 5th ZALZA (#3, 8-1) in new and suddenly dangerous hands off the claim while dropping to bottom for just the second time yet. Repeat of 2/7 try good enough to have him along here. -Mike Welsch :: Get the DRF GamePlan Playbook each day with a DRF+ Pro subscription. Still some things she can improve and the active work pattern since her last-out stakes win seems like a positive sign. - Marcus Hersh 5:19 OP 9th FEARLESS (#3, 3-1) is back in the overnight ranks and back at the mile and a sixteenth distance over which he put up his best career Beyer Speed Figure, a 99. Also note he was favored last out in the Grade 2 New Orleans Classic, with the winner of that race, By My Standards, set to run back later on the card in the Oaklawn Handicap. -Mary Rampellini 5:57 GP 11th JUSTINTHENICKOTIME (#2, 20-1) one of many key contenders in wide open 3yo stakes. Second best despite somewhat eventful trip last time behind Kaufy Bean who flattered effort returning to win his next start. Improving sort might just be good enough to handle the jump off Maker claim. -Mike Welsch 5:57 GP 11th PROVEN STRATEGIES (#8, 6-1) was far from disgraced when 6th in the G1 BC Juvenile Turf last fall, beaten just 2 lengths, as a maiden no less. He showed why they had such confidence in him to try that race with 2 big recent wins here and looks ready to further validate their faith. – Michael Hammersly 8:14 OP 14th MAGIC VOW (#4, 5-1) is part of the field for the mile and three-quarters Trail’s End, which closes out the meet at Oaklawn. As for his marathon form, he was beaten just a neck at a mile and a half last September. -Mary Rampellini :: Get the DRF GamePlan Playbook each day with a DRF+ Pro subscription. Purchase here.
