With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:00 GP 1st Siding with the hot hand of Juan Avila when tabbing MARIANNA QUEEN (#3, 20-1) in the noon ET opener; last-out 4th was her best yet; into Thursday, barn was 6 for its last 15, nice; good as any in what shapes up as an interesting lid-lifter. -Marty McGee 12:40 LRL 1st MISTER FRANK’S WAY (#1, 12-1) badly needs this class drop after being outrun at 47 to 1 and 65 to 1, respectively, in a pair of entry-level allowance races. Tried to get into it last time by splitting horses four wide on the final turn but never made an impact. He was in against seven-time winner Speed Game that day and now faces strict “nonwinners of two” performers. New gelding might be racing himself back into shape as he goes third off the bench and Ruiz lands here instead of Toe Curlin’ Kiss. -Dan Illman 2:03 WO 3rd LOOKINATAMIRACLE (#3, 6-1) closed nicely to win a recent N1X sprint after a slow start in his second race off the shelf. He’s moving back out to the distance over which he finished third in last year’s G3 Grey, and could make some noise as a longshot with Husbands aboard. -Ron Gierkink 2:34 GP 6th Solid case to be made for NOWITNA RIVER (#7, 8-1) off that May 30 triumph over several of the others she faces again for $6,250. A couple of 3rds in the interim came for $8k, then at 6 panels; now back to the mile for this bottom tag. -Marty McGee 2:51 SAR 4th GONE GLIMMERING (#4, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). 3:04 MTH 6th DR. DOYLE (#4, 5-2) was a visually impressive maiden winner on the dirt last time, and though he failed in his first five tries on the grass he may well be a new horse off the layoff or trainer Jane Cibelli, who does very well with horses making their second starts off a rest; has speed but can also rate, giving jockey Nik Juarez some options. -Kenny Peck 3:10 LRL 6th All things considered, STRIVE FOR A CURE (#1, 6-1) ran pretty well two starts back. Making his first start in 404 days, he battled for the early lead while on the deeper inside footing and wasn’t embarrassed against a field that produced four next-out winners (even the tenth-place finisher returned to win against conditioned claiming foes at Delaware with a 70 Beyer). Recent turf sprint helped him gain fitness and he should be ready for his best dropping to the bottom in third start of the form cycle. -Dan Illman :: Bet the races online with DRF Bets. New members get $250 bonus 3:24 SAR 5th THREE OUTLAWS (#4, 7-2) returned from a layoff to make his turf debut here last summer and put in a good finish to rally for 4th, then got a wide trip when disappointing a bit in his next start; still a maiden on grass but his most recent turf start was another solid effort while closing strongly too late. -Mike Beer 3:47 WO 6th RAVEN’S SONG (#10, 20-1) was competitive in each of her last two turf outings in maiden special company at Gulfstream and Belmont. The Chad Brown-trained runnerup from her last race returned to finish a close second at Saratoga with a 79 Beyer. -Ron Gierkink 3:57 SAR 6th COLTANDMISSISSIPPI (#6, 5-1) has a trip over that wet track two back then was defeated as the favorite last time, but didn’t run poorly in what turned out to be a tough race for the level with the 1st, 2nd and 4th place finishers all returning to win and confirming that figure; not sure six is his best distance but there is speed in here and he should be a fair price as he leaves Rudy’s barn. -Mike Beer :: Get the DRF GamePlan Playbook each day with a DRF+ Pro subscription. He showed excellent early speed while racing on the deeper inside footing, shrugged off his early pace rival and was coming back on the favorite in the final yards. Bailes barn is 2 for the last 10 (20%, 70% in the money, $2.46 ROI) with older dirt performers making the third start following a 61 to 120 day layoff. Shouldn’t be too far away when they turn for home. -Dan Illman 5:00 DMR 1st CAISSON (#6, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Brad Free). 5:21 GP 11th After opening the card with a split of a $12.5k mdn.-claiming turf mile for fillies, we’ll bookend the day by closing with the 2nd split, one that doesn’t seem quite as deep. To that end, SUNDAY SCHEMING (#10, 7-2) can redeem as a beaten fave when taking a subtle class drop; Ward ‘house horse’ just doesn’t seem to face much here. -Marty McGee 5:28 LAD 4th AMERICAN DREAM (#1, 4-1) tried two turns on the grass in her debut and ran poorly while breaking dead last. Good, a better price today. Notice that Asmussen keeps this filly on the grass and around two turns as if he knows that is what she does best. Her turf breeding is very good as her 360 turf Tomlinson can attest too. She is working locally but debuted at Lone Star where the purses are better. Back home now which can only help. -Scott Ehlers :: Want to get your Past Performances for free? We like Guerrero up. This gelding has stalking speed therefore draws the best. -Scott Ehlers 5:58 MTH 12th FOXY MISCHIEF (#2, 7-2) had her share of excuses in that return from the break, including some pre-race antics and a race flow that favored closers; she weakened after prompting the pace there but she has lots of room to improve today with a better set up, as she doesn’t necessarily have to be on or near the lead. -Kenny Peck 10:00 DMR 11th SASSYSERB (#8, 8-1) dueled and tired a bit late when last seen. She’s been freshened, returns to a course she handles, moves to a shorter trip, has a bullet work and lures Prat. – Michael Hammersly :: To stay up to date, follow DRF on: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter
