DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, July 2, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:15 MTH 1st SKILLFUL (#7, 4-1) beat over half the field home in his lone turf start which came only two back at Tampa (beautiful turf course). This gelding is bred to love the green with his 336 turf Tomlinson. Both sibs won on the sod. Current form is fine and this horse is now a gelding. Local works are a plus and this new gelding should be fully acclimated to here by now. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
1:05 GP 2nd GOLDEN ISLE (#3, 6-1) set a brisk pace but paid the price in a spot like this here April 22, giving way to end up 11th of 12th. She was claimed by D’Angelo, who has super numbers off a claim, has been given time since and returns at the same level. – Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race
1:11 MTH 3rd MOJAC KAT (#5, 6-1) catches a race light on pace and should be forwardly placed. In fact, with a good break, he has a good chance to find the front end where an early breather awaits. Local tab is fine and we bet this guy needed his return race. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
1:40 WO 2nd LILLZ HOPE (#9, 20-1) showed nothing at first asking in a five-furlong inner turf dash at the maiden special classification. She had worked well prior to that event and could wake up in this 6 ½-furlong main turf tilt for $25K maidens. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
2:10 WO 3rd WARWOMEN (#2, 3-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race
2:35 MTH 6th MO ANGELL (#10, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race
3:11 GP 6th RACING COLORS (#5, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Michael Hammersly). | Get PPs for this race
5:52 WO 10th SILENT POET (#7, 10-1), the leading turf sprinter at Woodbine in recent years, won this now G2 event last year when it was an inflated G1. The popular veteran has a pair of Tapeta tighteners under his girth and seems poised to fire one of his better shots. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
6:22 WO 11th BOXER BRIEF (#4, 12-1) has worked well for his first run of the year and could finally put it all together in his 4yo debut. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
7:34 LRC 6th Despite an uncertain pace scenario, late-runner OPERATIC (#5, 4-1) gets the call to win this $12.5K claiming route from off the pace. The veteran mare finished one-two in 10 of 18 on “fast,” she has been facing better, and can tag them late. But she will have to catch potential front-runner PERFECT ICE STORM. – Brad Free | Get PPs for this race
8:00 YR (Harness) 4th CREATIVE VENTURE (#7, 20/1) doesn't have a win so far in 2022 but finds an easier spot here than the NW5's at Harrah's Philadelphia or NW6's at Yonkers. I'll swing and hope that driver Dan Dube fires him out. – Greg Reinhart | Get PPs for this race
9:30 MED (Harness) 10th ALLYWAG HANOVER (#7, 3/1) is another horse coming back to his home turf which could perk up at a better than typical mutuel price. I’m expecting trainer Brett Pelling to have this guy very sharp for this race considering his future stake options are thin; expect speed! – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race
9:50 WBS (Harness) 9th WARRAWEE VITAL (#7, 3/1) is one of the fastest horses I have seen around here in a while when he is on his game and I think this is the night he gets turned loose making his fourth start back and facing easier; top call. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race
