DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, January 14, 2023

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:39 GP 2nd NEOPHYTE (#3, 5-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Welsch). | Get PPs for this race
1:47 AQU 4th REGALITY (#5, 9-2) broke his maiden on this circuit as a 3yo when stretched out and he finished first twice around two turns last year (he was disqualified from one of those victories); stretched back out and this looks like the right level over a distance that might suit him better than some of his rivals. – Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
2:09 GP 5th AL ATLASI (#10, 6-1) looked like a horse who needed the race when making a strong but somewhat pre-mature wide middle move in debut when finishing behind Saffie Joseph wire to wire winner Swirvin. Turns back in distance at second asking, figures to improve, could be ready to graduate if not running into any killers today. – Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race
2:53 LRL 6th BRETT'S WORLD (#5, 3-1) looked good dominating conditioned claimers at Parx last month. Worked out a nice trip pressing a 43-1 shot (finished last) from two wide/three path, took over the lead with 3 1/2 furlongs from home, and was geared down under the line. Earned career-best Beyer that afternoon and seems well-spotted in this state-sired allowance. Ness barn went 12 for the last 30 (40%, $2.48 ROI) with last-out winners returning on dirt. – Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
3:18 AQU 7th LIAM’S FIRE (#3, 6-1) has caught wet tracks in both starts since returning from the layoff but took a nice step forward last time when cut back to sprint; has the right running style for this race, which is not short on early speed and he should be a fair price. – Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
3:37 GP 8th A really solid bunch in this one mile maiden test. WEYHILL ROAD (#6, 8-1), the second $1.6 million purchase gong postward on today's card, may have needed his first try while also compromised some at the start. Race flattered when top pair returned to win at next asking. Working well locally for this. – Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race
3:47 AQU 8th ANISTON (#5, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race
4:24 OP 7th SASSY LASS (#9, 9-2) is one of just a handful in this spot with racing experience. She split a full field of steeper last out at Oaklawn. – Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
7:40 MED (Harness) 5th DELAYED HANOVER (#10, 5-1) is simply the best horse in the race. While post 10 isn’t ideal, driver Gingras can probably float away and rate on the rim if he chooses. – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race
