DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, December 3, 2022

DRF Staff|Dec 02, 2022
Woodbine scenic
Michael Burns Woodbine's feature on Friday is a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for nonwinners of two that combines Ontario-sired allowance types with $40,000 claimers.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:10 GP 1st SHOCKWAVE (#5, 6-1) drops for a tag and switches to grass for a second start after getting valuable experience debuting on Tapeta. Kin to inner winner Fuzzy Kitten. Main concern barn’s first call rider has switched allegiance to Rotterdam, who shows up in new hands for local, turf bow but with not much turf breeding in pedigree. – Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

1:20 WO 1st SOUPER RIVER (#3, 20-1) had little chance racing four-wide from off slow fractions when returning from a break Nov. 17. He should be dangerous with that tightener under his girth in the shorter $25K NW3 sprint. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

1:40 GP 4th SWIRVIN (#3, 3-1) appears to be working extremely well for debut, including promising gate drill with Zayas up on 11/19 at PM. – Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

4:24 GP 9th AFY KID (#8, 5-1) has already shown promise on the synthetic, but with enough breeding to suggest he’ll also love the grass being a full to two time turf winner Driven Home. Held in gamely against a couple of decent rivals despite lots of trouble last time. – Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

6:30 DMR 7th THEBESTISYETTOBE (#9, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Brad Free). | Get PPs for this race

6:40 WO 11th SPARKLING SILVER (#4, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race

7:30 DMR 9th A pair of shippers might knock off the locals in the G1 Hollywood Derby. New York-based CELESTIAL CITY (#3, 4-1) is vastly improved since adding blinkers three back; he scored an impressive victory last out in a nine-furlong G2 by smoking his final three furlongs in :34.32. Back at the same distance, the Uncle Mo colt can mow them down. – Brad Free | Get PPs for this race

9:20 WBS (Harness) 8th LAST BEACH (#2, 3-1) raced okay last week considering he shipped from Kentucky and missed three weeks between starts. He fits well here and he should get more aggressive early tonight; top call. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race

11:10 MED (Harness) 13th LEON DAVID (#3, 9-2) is getting better with each start since returning from a few months on the bench. Saunders trainee faces a dull field and should prove tough. – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race
