Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 1:25 GP 3rd Blinkers come off JOURNEYMAN (#7, 6-1) after the 6yo changed hands again following his latest out; classy-ish gelding still looking to revert to that huge Pegasus Day effort in which he earned a 91 BSF, although interim starts been respectable, too; nod in what shapes up as a tough group for these hybrid conditions. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race  2:04 WO 3rd JUST START ME UP (#3, 10-1) led until deep stretch when second the only time he competed on the inner turf June 5. The big dark bay faded to fourth in his two most recent excursions on the Tapeta and may have found a field that he can handle here. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race  2:31 MTH 6th ESCAPEWITHFRIENDS (#7, 6-1) gets back to 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf and it was under these conditions that she posted what was easily the best Beyer of her career; lack of positional speed means she'll need some help from the pacesetters but if she gets it she could be set up to make the last run. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race 2:55 LRL 5th HUFFLEPUFF (#4, 6-1) couldn't keep up with $20,000 starter-optionals 13 days ago. Saved ground behind the quick pace set by Unrequited Love and steadily retreated along the inside. She seems like a much better fit at this class level for barn that went 3 for 11 (27%, $4.80 ROI; two winners ridden by Aviles) between July 4 and Aug. 10. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race  3:29 LRL 6th NICK PAPAGIORGIO (#5, 4-1) listed as a Colonial vet scratch on July 19, broke well in the Prince George's County, then conceded the lead to favored Beacon Hill (finished last). He tracked the pace from in between rivals, was shuffled back a bit entering the second turn, angled widest, and churned on in a one-paced manner. Pace-adaptable gelding won the Find two back and might be handled a bit more aggressively this time. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race  4:11 GP 8th $20k has proven a bit too much for HROTHGAR (#9, 6-1), so here he is, back on just 5 days' rest when running back for $12.5k for the crafty A. Sanchez; those mid-60s Beyers put him in the right league, and the quick wheel-back generally means the animal is doing just swell; Perez the right man for the job when looking to leverage a clean run from this outer post. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race  4:20 WO 7th TALBEYAH (#2, 10-1) was a visually impressive winner of her first start on this side of the pond in an N2X in May, but she couldn't keep up with the boys most recently in a tough G3 stakes. The habitually slow starter has some speed to chase in this G3 for distaffers, and could be along in time with money rider Hernandez named. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race 4:21 MTH 10th TEXAS MAGIC (#6, 8-1) was off the board in her first start vs. winners but the resulting Beyer isn't that far off the figure that likely favorite LAY THE GROUNDWORK has been posting, and she posted it despite having to try to rally into some slow early splits; a move forward is likely here if she gets faster fractions to chase. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race 4:33 LAD 2nd THUNDER JAM (#5, 9-2) might be the value. He tried two turns on the turf in his debut and nothing is tougher. He got valuable race experience and that is all that matters. Of 9 sibs to race, 8 won and 6 beat winners. Small barn is doing good things. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race 4:54 WO 8th CLAYTON (#8, 15-1) broke through the gate pre-race prior to his uncharacteristically poor showing in his July 2 comeback in a conditioned allowance. He's worked nicely since and can make amends at a square price in this wide open G3 stakes, while using his tactical speed. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race 5:44 LRL 10th Curious to see what we'll get from WAY LUCKY (#11, 12-1) as she receives blinkers. Lost all chance at gaining forward position last time as she bobbled pretty badly at the start. Raced in between horses at the back, trailed down the backstretch, and passed some tired horses in the stretch. Perhaps she'll be sharper and show greater focus with the equipment change, and she'll likely be a good price on the tote. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race 5:55 LAD 5th BATES COURT (#4, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race 6:00 HST 3rd SILARONE (#5, 10-1) did not show much after breaking poorly in his debut, but he sure looked good in his two subsequent five-furlong works and might be better than he looks on paper. If he can run at all he could beat what appears to be a moderate group of babies. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race  6:33 WO 11th OWEN'S TOUR GUIDE (#8, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race 7:10 CBY 3rd HOT SHOT KID (#6, 8-1) returns to the dirt and that is his better surface. Horse for course goes for Mac and loves this dirt. He has worked at least twice since his most recent. This gelding loves this distance and figures a better price than some. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race  7:19 SR 6th HARBOR ABBEY (#1, 4-1), a sick scratch at Sacramento on July 24, will have her turf debut in her ninth start in this modest field of $14,000 to $16,000 claimers at a mile. Harbor Abbey, out of the five-time turf winner Abbey Cat, was second of four in an $8,000 claimer for non-winners of two at 1 1-16 miles at Sacramento on July 16. Race winner Queen of Love and last-place finisher Party Spirit returned to win. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race 7:40 CBY 4th GEAUX YOSHKA (#4, 5-1) has improved his Beyer in every start. He gets back to winning distance of maiden breaker all while going third off the layoff for Mac. Race flow is fast if all stay in. This colt did cost 150K which is a lot for around here. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race  8:10 CBY 5th NORTHCUT (#7, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race  8:19 SR 8th The top three selections were second, sixth and first in the Oak Tree Sprint at Pleasanton on July 2 and had remarkably different journeys. They meet again in an excellent allowance race at five furlongs. ULTIMATE BANGO (#8, 5-1) stalked the pace to the turn and was carried wide by a loose horse entering the stretch. A six-time winner, Ultimate Bango recovered to finish a game second in one of the most unlucky trips of the year in Northern California. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race  8:35 YR (Harness) 6th SULLIVAN (#4, 10-1) rallied from seventh to fourth in the final quarter a week ago, showing his couple of good efforts in Pennsylvania prior to that were no accident. He moves in a couple of notches on the gate tonight and switches drivers to Brennan. – Greg Reinhart | Get PPs for this race  9:00 WBS (Harness) 7th CALLED IN SICK (#2, 6-1) left for the pocket, took a mid-race shuffle, then was shut off with pace at a critical point in early stretch. That start should have him perfectly primed for this Grassroots race and he gets top billing. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race
