DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, August 12, 2023
?q=100)
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.
1:35 MTH 3rd MISPELLED MOON (#9, 9-2) would not be denied in her most recent when a nose garnered her the win at 6/5. New barn is 21% off the claim. There is no doubt that this filly likes this distance. She figures as good a trip as anyone as she stalks a solid pace all from the outside. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
2:05 WO 3rd BRITISH CROWN (#3, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race
3:26 MTH 7th FROSTY O TOOLE (#3, 8-1) exits a key race where 3 of 6 returned to win with figs of 87, 87, and 97. This is quite the drop going from Grade 1 foes to allowance runners. Works are solid. Trainer stats for team Pletcher are good across the board. Let's see what this pure class play can do in only its second turf start. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
3:41 WO 6th INFAMOUS COVERT (#1, 9-2) was a prominent second in his comeback on the Tapeta before failing to fire after a three-wide trip most recently on the inner turf in another $25K NW3 event. He's dropping to meet $15K NW3 opposition and figures to rebound in the third race of his form cycle. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
4:47 GP 9thNORTHSHORE DRIVE (#1, 12-1) seems like one who can take advantage if the pace is quick and there's a good chance it will be as there appears to be ample speed in this year's Proud Man. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
5:22 WO 9th GLORIANNIA (#2, 4-1) was bumped at the break and then closed four-wide to just miss in a slow-paced Tapeta sprint in her second race off the shelf. Two of her three victories came on the grass, and she might be poised to peak in the third start of her form cycle. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
8:35 CTB 6th COUSVINNYSACANUCK (#6, 6-1) is the value in this short stakes field. He exits a key race where 3 of 9 returned to win with another two having finished second. The win Beyers are 63, 74, and 74. The place figs are 68 and 65. The leading barn calls the shots and this gelding finished 2nd beaten only a head in a stakes race on the local dirt last summer. Recent bullet work bodes well. Race flow is more than fair as should be the price. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
9:35 CTB 9th JOSE PATIO (#1, 8-1) is feeling great so why not take a shot in a stakes that holds no world beaters? We love how he tried two turns and winners both for the first time in his most recent and won at 5-1. He has good speed and draws the rail. Other speed is a worry but we expect a decent price all for a barn that is 20% with horses that won their last race. Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
