DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, April 9, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:11 TAM 3rd KARL CARES (#10, 9-2) was off the board last time after a pair of narrow losses but he was moving well in the late stages despite racing well off the pace in a race where the race flow favored the speeds (note the bold "S" in the DRF running line); still earned a representative Beyer, a figure that gives him credibility. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
1:44 TAM 4th COFFEE ESSENCE (#6, 9-2) is the first starter out of a dam who lost all six of her career starts but the barn sports solid stats with firsters (18% winners, $6.45 ROI) and the works suggest this filly has some speed; needn't be a star to win this at first asking. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
2:42 LRL 5th CHARMING WAY (#4, 5-1) looked strong graduating for the $40,000 waiver. She pulled her way up to track the pace four wide, moved to a three-wide lead on the turn and drew off nicely in the lane. Gets a distance test going to the second finish of the one-turn mile, but lightly-raced filly still has upside and deserves a shot at this trip. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
2:51 TAM 6th SHE'S PEACHY KEEN (#6, 9-2) went long in her latest and while she ran well enough in that loss and in her only other route try she does seem to be at her best when she can stay close to the lead in sprints; draws wide but she's quick enough to get position just off the expected pacesetters. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
3:12 GP 5th CASH EXPRESS (#6, 6-1) perhaps worth a peek at a price. Has shown speed in both previous starts. Stopped badly in slop after chasing wire to wire winner for more than a half in latest, continues to work forwardly. Could get brave if able to shake loose with these. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race
3:25 TAM 7th In his only other try on the grass, two back, CHIC N WILBUR (#3, 20-1) was rank in the opening stages and the bore out as he was being pulled up, but he deserves another chance here, as he ran a deceptively good race in defeat in an off-the-turf race last time out; price should be right, and he figures to be well positioned off the speeds under new jockey Jose Ferrer. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
3:33 OP 4th OILER (#7, 3-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mary Rampellini). | Get PPs for this race
3:44 GP 6th A familiar bunch comes together here with trip likely separating the group. MISS MAMBA (#5, 8-1) one of the new faces getting plenty of class relief after breaking slow, being outrun in recent sprint try. Beat several in key race over the Tapeta around two turns on 1/5. Worth a shot at big balloons. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race
3:51 LRL 7th HOLY SYNCHRONICITY (#1, 9-2) finally put it all together at a big price. Stalked a quick pace three wide, dropped in to race off the rail on the turn, traveled nicely turning for home, altered course to split rivals in upper stretch and pulled away in the lane to best two minor next-out winners. Barn is 4 for the last 16 (25%, $10.46 ROI) with last-out maiden graduates. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
4:03 OP 5th BODE'S MAKER (#7, 5-1) cuts back to one turn and looking for him to be making his case through the lane on account of the distance move. He's also appealing on class as he faced steeper in his most recent start. This marks his second race since last May. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
6:40 OP 10th MAHOMEY (#12, 6-1) can make an impact with a repeat of his effort from February at Oaklawn. Barn could be sitting on a strong afternoon as it had leading contenders in both the Rainbow and Rainbow Miss earlier on the card. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race ts
6:42 GP 11th Looking for value in nightcap with TINKER TAILER (#4, 12-1) who adds blinkers, looked good working over the Tapeta for this. Drops to weakest spot yet. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race
7:50 MED (Harness) 5th JL CRUZE (#5, 3-1) gets huge class relief tonight. Normally there are a couple of killers in this condition but this field came up very soft and the old guy should show them who is boss. – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race
8:00 WBS (Harness) 4th LETS GET PICKLED (#3, 7-2) tried to make a middle move to the front last week but the leader wouldn’t allow it and they both suffered from battling through that :27 3/5 second quarter. That he only was beaten two lengths made it a strong performance and he gets top call here. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race
