With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 1:15 GP 2nd MARKISTAN (#10, 7-2), the day’s best, got hung wide from tough post, proved no match for even money, class dropping Saffie Joseph trained Bibiana last time but tossed career best Beyer despite the trip and ready to earn diploma dropping back a notch with these. -Mike Welsch 1:58 TAM 4th BURKEY’S BABE (#3, 20-1) makes her first start since November but she seems to land in a very good spot in terms of pace, as she could well be the main speed in this field; she shipped here last year and enjoyed a solid winter, winning all three of her starts by open lengths, and that proven affinity for this strip only adds to the appeal. -Kenny Peck 2:06 OP 2nd METROPOL (#9, 3-1) makes the move to two turns off a pair of sprint starts to launch his season and he gets pedigree support for the added distance demands. –Mary Rampellini :: Bet the races online with DRF Bets. New members get $250 bonus 2:28 TAM 5th PURE LUCK (#2, 6-1) chased loose speed FOX ROX (#10, 6-1) in in his first start against open claimers and he actually did quite well to get the show, considering the pace scenario; should get a much improved set up here, as there are several confirmed speeds in this field; and he can turn the tables if he gets a clean trip behind a contested early pace. - Kenny Peck 3:08 OP 4th PUNISH (#10, 9-2) was second last out in a race that went in good time. She also has speed and the outside draw might give jockey Joel Rosario options. -Mary Rampellini 3:17 GP 6th BIG SPENDER (#7, 7-2) ran well despite stumbling badly at the break of his most recent appearance. Gets some much appreciated class relief, may prove too fast for this lineup. -Mike Welsch :: Get the DRF GamePlan Playbook each day with a DRF+ Pro subscription. She has raced on the turf only once before, over this same course, and she missed by just a half length in a solid effort, and she figures to be well spotted behind a fast pace here; she makes her first start off the layoff, and first start for the barn, and those are two solid angles for trainer Nick Caruso. -Kenny Peck 4:53 GP 9th MINTD (#7, 10-1) better than final margin might indicate winning U S bow off a 1 1/2 year hiatus at Tampa Bay Downs. Just might handle jump to next level with an even cleaner trip. -Mike Welsch :: Shop DRF Past Performances, Clocker Reports, Digital Paper, Picks and more 5:14 OP 8th WHITMORE (#9, 5-2) looked to me like he was losing his edge late last year, and since that was the end of his 6yo season, I figured he’d never get back to his peak again. Looks like that was wrong. Loved his Hot Springs win, and unlike in the 2019 Count Fleet, where he was taken out of his game to chase the incredible Mitole, here he can bide his time, run his race, and pounce in the stretch. – Marcus Hersh 5:45 OP 9th MT. BRAVE (#9, 10-1) is an interesting option. She draws well, to the outside of primary pace rival and horse-to-beat SHANGHAI TARIFF (#1, 5-2). MT. BRAVE also is back in the overnight ranks off back-to-back stakes appearances at Oaklawn. -Mary Rampellini 6:16 OP 10th HOROLOGIST (#9, 15-1) showed ample talent last spring/summer. She tailed off some afterward but was a strong 2nd last month at LRL, indicating she’s back on track. She could fall into a real nice trip stalking considerable speed. – Michael Hammersly 6:16 OP 10th OLLIE’S CANDY (#1, 12-1) makes her second start since the Breeders’ Cup and moves back to the mile and a sixteenth distance of her win in last year’s Grade 1 Clement Hirsch. -Mary Rampellini 6:16 OP 10th LADY APPLE (#13, 15-1) has a tough post and comes off a terrible race, but she’ll be the right price to guess she can overcome the former & rebound from the latter. Looks like she hates sloppy / muddy tracks, & it was just two starts ago she beat Serengeti Empress at HOU. Went 3-3 at OP last winter and spring. – Marcus Hersh
