DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Saturday, April 16, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:25 TAM 3rd SHINBORO (#3, 7-2) seems to land in a good spot in his first start off the claim, when at this same level last time out; he was off the board in that race but had a legit excuse, as he was against the race flow, and he should get a better set up in this return try. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:42 WO 2nd SUMMER SUNSET (#6, 4-1) was working right along on the Tapeta at Gulfstream prior to a lively gate drill here a week ago and should be quite fit for his first appearance since Aug. 29. He chased home several of the faster juveniles to compete here last year, most notably One Timer and Ironstone. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:50 LRL 3rd BLOODPROF (#1, 8-1) listed as a vet scratch on Jan. 29, returns to his favorite surface for first run following 104 days on the sidelines. Looked good winning over course and distance last fall as he stalked in between, comfortably altered course to split rivals four wide in upper stretch, and ran them down late. That wasn't a strong field, however (nine next-out runners, none hit the board, 62 Beyer top). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:59 TAM 4th LOVIN LIVIN (#2, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:26 AQU 3rd DANZIGWITHTHESTARS (#8, 4-1) improved throughout his 3yo campaign to ultimately win back-to-back races at Saratoga while adapting to different pace scenarios, and he then ran an underrated race for 4th in the Better Talk Now; tactical gelding has the layoff to overcome. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:28 AQU 5th BOSSHIP's (#6, 6-1) first two starts vs. maiden claimers both came over wet tracks, including one over a mile; faced a much better field for the level when picking up a no-threat third last time; giving him one final chance vs. this group. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:33 TAM 7th PLATINUM GEM (#2, 20-1) takes the blinkers off for her first start off the layoff, and while her Beyers are a little light she may be positioned to run a big race, if those solid a.m. breezes are any indication; she has speed but she showed in her maiden score that she doesn't need the lead, and that tactical early zip and inside post should ensure a decent trip. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:49 GP 6th Tons of speed signed on in this one, should give lightly raced and late running MY MAN FLINT (#8, 10-1) the opportunity to get back to winner's circle with another forward move and clean trip in bulky lineup. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:57 LRL 7th AMERICAN PATROL (#5, 15-1) must deal with 301-day layoff coupled with a solid stakes field at a demanding seven-furlong distance, but the lightly-raced colt showed potential on dirt last year for Cal Lynch. Graduated sprinting over wet going after a 191-day break and dominated "two-life" allowance horses around two turns at Delaware on June 19. Dueled with the runner-up through fast fractions in the latter heat, opened up under confident handling, and was never threatened. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:19 GP 7th JOE DI BAGGIO (#6, 4-1) back to preferred distance after hanging late at a mile. Paired up six furlong wins against same kind and perhaps a notch better in December. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:22 WO 7th DREAMING OF DREW (#4, 6-1) was among the leading 2yo fillies on the grounds in 2020 before going on hiatus due to injury. She trained extensively in South Carolina prior to a pair of fast local works on the Tapeta this month and could prevail at a square price in this overnight stakes. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:29 LRL 8th PENNYBAKER (#11, 5-1) didn't do much in her first six starts on turf in France, but she improved by leaps and bounds when switched to All-Weather surfaces. Grabbed her fourth straight with a striking victory in the Prix Miss Satamixa at Deauville as she stalked in midpack, eased widest turning for home and scored under a hard hand ride. The runner-up from that race returned to take the Group 2 Cape Verdi on turf at Meydan. Certainly bred for dirt success as a Medaglia d'Oro filly out of a full sister to Frosted. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:32 AQU 7th MODERN MIDAS (#3, 6-1) has had trouble at the start of both starts to date and was compromised both times; finished behind a couple of these same rivals in that last one and did well to just get up for 4th in a race that was dominated up close; one more chance but he needs to break. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:11 TAM 10th CENTERFOLDPROSPECT (#8, 8-1) has done some of his best work over this course, and he drops back into a claimer after facing better in his last couple at Gulfstream; he'll be looking to make the last run, so he does need some pace help, but he should get it in this finale. MR. WHO gets back to routing on the turf and this does seem to be his best game; dangerous if he can sit off the pace and make one run in his third start off the layoff. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:25 GP 9th RUBYSA (#3, 10-1) the only 4yo in the field and coming off game effort last time despite extended pace duel while returning from five month layoff to boot. Might return quick dividends off the claim taking on younger foes. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:36 LRL 10th KINKY FROLIC (#7, 5-1) might have hung a bit two back when failing to get past the leader after that one set a slow pace at Charles Town. Overmatched in a key race last time when in against West Virginia-bred champ Door Buster (returned to win "second-level" allowance with a 55 Beyer). Dropped to last behind a quick pace, advanced inside and ran on late in between horses. Seems well-spotted for circuit debut. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:40 AQU 9th LADY OF THOROTON (#8, 12-1) has won two in a row on dirt vs. claiming horses; wouldn't take a short price on her but willing to give her a chance back on grass based on that second start, where she put in a good finish too late over this distance. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:58 GP 10th TACTICAL PAJAMAS (#11, 15-1) pretty hard to catch when able to shake loose, relax on the lead throughout her career and appears the controlling speed today. Might not look back. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:40 SA 6th First-time starter ALEX'S GIRL (#10, 6-1) can come out firing in a Cal-bred maiden-50 that did not come up too tough. Trainer David Hofmans occasionally pops with debut runners including his last two Cal-bred maiden-50 starters (Gypsy Blu and Spicy Vibration, 2018 and 2019). 'GIRL is by Idiot Proof, whose all-ages debut progeny have won at an above-average rate of 18 percent. Apprentice rider aboard, this looks like a "go" for 'GIRL. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
8:13 SA 9th Lightly raced veteran MOODY JIM (#5, 3-1) and comeback European import CASH EQUITY are tough to separate in this N2X/optional $80k claiming turf route. The call goes to the gelding with recent form. That is MOODY JIM, who dominated a $40k claiming race two starts back, then regressed slightly next out and finished third at odds-on. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:00 WBS (Harness) 1st YACHT SEELSTER (#3, 5-2) got a brutal parked-out trip last week and he just kept closing. Facing easier here, I can see him going right down the road tonight; top call and Pick 5 single. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
10:20 MED (Harness) 11th DARTH FADER (#4, 15-1) kicked home in :26 and change last Saturday in an improved effort and now gets driver Dexter Dunn in the bike. – Greg Reinhart | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
