DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Monday, October 12, 2020

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:00 GPW 1st UNDER THE COUVERS (#6, 4-1) has been working like he can run a bit and he is bred to win early. His dam was unraced but his only sib won her 2-year-old debut on dirt and her third start on turf. His Group 1 winning sire won $1.8 million as a 2-year-old in Australia and he is the father of the 2-year-old filly Madone who notched her third straight victory on grass in the $102K Surfer Girl at Santa Anita Oct. 4. -Randy Goulding
12:50 BEL 1st BIG TIME LADY (#10, 4-1) had speed to contest a good pace before tiring on debut and she conceded last time, only to get wired on a slow pace; half to two turf winners, including the talented Morrison, is bred to improve with this surface switch. -Mike Beer
1:10 GPW 3rd LAUGHABLE (#2, 9-2), another live one from Joseph, has been away for over 11 months but she has been working well enough and her sharp trainer can have them ready to roll coming off a lengthy layoff. If she runs as well as she did in her first two starts for Pletcher she is going to be a handful. The pedigree is there as her only sibling is 2-time Grade 2 winner Quip who earned over $1 million. -Randy Goulding
1:24 BEL 2nd QUEENDOM (#3, 6-1) has finished behind La Negrita in her last two starts but she had an excuse two back when breaking through the gate prior to the start, and thought she ran deceptively well last time when losing a spot early before coming wide to finish with some interest. -Mike Beer
1:44 GPW 4th KAY’S DREAM (#5, 5-1) takes the plunge after getting bounced around pretty hard at the start in her second start which came following a lengthy layoff. She had a nice work on Sept. 28, so she might be able to run a bit, and she is going to find this undistinguished group a lot easier to deal with. -Randy Goulding

2:50 GPW 6th FIVE OF HEARTS (#4, 6-1) was the runner-up at this level two back and the horse that won his latest received a 77 Beyer when he repeated in a $30K claimer for 3-year-olds. Five of Hearts has had a couple of decent works since being claimed by Rodriguez who the past five years has a 33% strike rate and $2.22 ROI with claimed horses running back the first time. -Randy Goulding
3:05 BEL 5th JOE’S SMOKIN GUN (#1, 10-1) earned an 88 Beyer when gamely prevailing over a sloppy track last December, and backed that race up strongly when cruising in over $25k claimers in his next start; drops for the first time since being claimed as he stretches back out for his second start off the layoff. -Mike Beer

5:20 BEL 9th BEACH FRONT (#7, 9-2) improved earlier this year when returned to dirt and he ran a winning race off the layoff in June while earning anew top Beyer; faced better for the level two and three back, and he had little chance in that last one in a race that was dominated up front. -Mike Beer
