DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, September 9, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:00 WO 1st TOO LEGIT (#3, 6-1) has maintained decent form throughout the meet and is being reunited with the hot bug Jones, who was aboard when he beat bottom NW2 rivals three back. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:19 PIM 4th This is a big ask for FASHIONATTA (#1, 15-1) as she hikes up drastically in class to face multiple-winners, but she looked good graduating against basement maidens at Delaware and retains upside potential. Bumped at the start, she recovered to track outside, made a three-wide bid to the front on the turn, then left that weak field (three next-out runners, none hit the board, 41 Beyer top on turf) in her wake. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:36 WO 4th P. S. RISING STAR (#2, 6-1) attended the early pace before dropping back at the head of the stretch and then made a late bid to finish 1 1/2 lengths back when moving out from five to 6 1/2 furlongs in her much-improved second start. She could put it all together in this seven-furlong sprint with Civaci back riding for Hall--they're a combined 4 for 21 at the meet. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:51 PIM 5th CROSSLAND (#4, 10-1) hustled from the gate to prompt 4-1 shot Steady Eddie (finished sixth), then dropped in behind that tiring pacesetter entering the second turn and was shuffled back a bit. He eased out into the clear and gave an even finish without threatening. Gets weight from some of the other top contenders and should be forwardly placed. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:55 PIM 7th CONSULTANT (#10, 8-1) was bumped a couple of times when hung out four wide on the first turn last month, then pulled his way forward to push a fast pace. Made a brief lead turning into the stretch before understandably tiring behind two stretch runners. The pace might not be as aggressive this time around and he can sit a good trip from just off the leaders. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:11 GP 8th PARKLAND (#7, 4-1) dueled from the start vs. $20K foes on this track at this trip July 3 and gamely held. Crichton saw fit to claim him that day but the gelding hasn't been seen since, which is a bit disconcerting. After all, you don't usually claim a horse just for the sake of feeding it. The good news is he comes back UP in price and 2 wins off layoffs longer than before. -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:43 GP 9th CHEF MENTEUR (#1, 10-1) comes off 2 good outings vs. cheaper including a solid 2nd on this track at this type of trip last time out Aug. 20. He hast the tactical speed to be forwardly placed from the start. -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:03 DMR 3rd After dueling and tiring her first four starts against special-weight maidens (open and Cal-bred), SMOKIN CHEENA (#9, 4-1) drops to $50k maiden-claiming and could be long gone. She faced good company her early starts. The fillies she finished second to at Santa Anita (Absolutely Zero, Vegas Magic) returned to win stakes; the race-shape was against 'CHEENA both Cal-bred MSW starts this meet. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:48 GG 7th SHORT RIB (#5, 6-1) has not raced since March, but the layoff may not be an issue. The gelding returned from a 10-month layoff last October to win an $8,000 claimer for maidens, his most recent victory. Short Rib does not have much to beat in this field and seems like the sort of runner best suited to racing near the front. He may inherit the lead without a confirmed frontrunner among the opposition. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
9:30 DMR 8th Second start back from a layoff, veteran FIRST PREMIO (#6, 6-1) could score his eighth win. He ran well in his recent comeback. He raced inside just off pace, lacked room at the quarter pole and into lane, waited for a path, then finished well for third. Solid comeback, class drop to $40k claiming, tepid choice. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
11:23 RP 8th VIEWING TRAIL (#9, 6-1) is back in the maiden ranks after running a credible fourth to a sales-topper in a division of the Texas Thoroughbred Futurity at Lone Star Park. The race has since produced a next-out stakes winner, with the third-place finisher returning to take a division of the D.S. "Shine" Young Futurity at Evangeline Downs. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
