Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:35 GP 2nd SINISTER (#7, 5-1) finished behind SEMPER FI last time but he broke a step slow leaving from the rail and was stuck behind horses most of the way. Nice work Aug. 22 suggests he could take a big step forward for Dibona who the past five years has a 21% strike rate with claimed horses running back the first time. -Randy Goulding 12:40 LRL 1st SPLASHERSTOWN (#2, 6-1) showed no ill effects from 238-day layoff when scoring as an odds-on favorite should on July 25. Battled with next-out winner Lookin for Candy, cornered beautifully on the turn, disdainfully dispatched of that foe in upper stretch and was on her way. Claimed away from red-hot barn that afternoon, she was placed in a curious spot on dirt to no avail last time out. Should appreciate getting back to her preferred surface here. -Dan Illman 1:10 GP 3rd No stars in the field but UNCLE ANDREW (#8, 7-2) looked good getting his second win and was claimed by Joseph who has strong numbers with claimed horses running back the first time. UNCLE ANDREW has yet to run a bad race over this course and he owns the best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. He also has some tactical speed which could give him an edge over his stablemate, KEEPSAKEKITTEN, who does his best running late and will need to work out a trip. -Randy Goulding ::Become a DRF Bets member and get DRF's Kentucky Derby VIP Package for free 1:19 WO 2nd BOSCOBEL (#8, 6-1) earned a 52 Beyer when seventh for $25K the last time she tried the Tapeta three starts ago. The daughter of Old Forester is adding blinkers for the drop to the $5K. -Ron Gierkink 2:10 MTH 4th PRIZED WARRIOR (#5, 5-2) has the tactical speed to get early position and that’s a big reason for his recent success, as he has run 1st or 2nd in four of his last five starts; latest was a good effort, against an above average field for the class level, and he could be the one to beat today on the strength of that running line. -Kenny Peck 2:47 LRL 5th ZIP LINE TO HEAVEN (#7, 7-2) had the misfortune to tackle the talented Fiya in turf debut and ended up widest turning for home. Had a better setup turning back to this distance at Colonial last month. Stalked outside, dropped to the rail turning for home, made the front and was just run down by the favorite. Not sure he’s a star, but the Beyers are going the right way and he still has some upside potential. -Dan Illman 3:16 SAR 6th SOUTH AFRICA (#1, 15-1) returned from a long layoff to make his 3yo debut going long on turf in what may be best viewed as a prep; lone start as a juvenile came up here sprinting on dirt and he came through with a solid effort that day while contesting the pace and then going a bit greenly in the stretch behind subsequent stakes winner Bank On Shea. -Mike Bee :: Play the Kentucky Derby with DRF! Visit our Kentucky Derby shop for Packages, PPs, Betting Strategies, and more 3:28 WO 6th GO GIGI GO GIGI GO (#5, 6-1) faded from a three-wide stalking position last time in her first attempt against winners. She was a gutsy maiden breaker the time before, and is dropping to where she could get back on track. -Ron Gierkink 3:50 SAR 7th MARKET ALERT (#3, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer) 4:10 MTH 8th LIGHTS DOWN LOW (#1, 6-1) overcame a speed bias to win from off the pace at a big price on the Haskell undercard last time out, and the resulting Beyer gives her strong credibility vs. this field; that figure was much improved over her usual 2019 Beyers, perhaps suggesting she’s a much better filly since returning from the break. -Kenny Peck 4:25 SAR 8th MORNING COLORS (#7, 8-1) did not run well in her NY debut off the layoff back in June after conceding the lead despite showing some early speed from the rail; willing to give her a chance to rebound based on her winning debut, where she confidently held in the stretch after sitting a good trip. -Mike Beer :: Get the DRF GamePlan Playbook each day with a DRF+ Pro subscription. Purchase here. 4:41 MTH 9th MARKSMAN (#6, 9-2) was off the board but wasn’t far off the winner in his latest, which was at this same level but against a much better field of AN1X turfers than this one, which is made up largely of last-out maiden winners or horses exiting claimers; he was far back two back but that was his first start off the layoff and he wasn’t pushed hard once clearly beaten, yet he showed some interest through the lane. -Kenny Peck 5:00 SAR 9th BIG PACKAGE (#5, 20-1) has landed in a tough spot for his return to turf off the layoff but he might be worth considering at a price as he looked good breaking his maiden first time on this surface with a strong finish once finding room, and he backed that win up with an underrated effort over yielding ground vs. much better horses. -Mike Beer 5:15 WO 9th MIRIAM’S SKY (#4, 10-1) checked in third after a stalking trip in a 7 1/2-furlong event on the inner turf a month ago. Note that he finished second the last time he ran long on the main turf last summer. -Ron Gierkink 5:22 LRL 9th FOOD AND WINE (#4, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Dan Illman). 6:45 DMR 4th The fourth-place comeback by MISS MOZART (#8, 6-1) was better than it looks, and sets her up for a maiden-20 victory second start back from a layoff. ‘MOZART steadied in early traffic, dropped back to fifth on the rail, rallied into contention for the place spot in deep stretch, then was passed late to finish fourth. Solid comeback under the circumstances. -Brad Free 7:15 DMR 5th Second-time starter RUN SNAPPY (#5, 6-1) can post a minor upset after a troubled fifth-place debut. She was shuffled early after breaking from the rail, angled outside in the lane, lugged in while racing greenly, and finished well. Blinkers on second time out, and she gets off the rail. One potential flaw is progeny of first-crop sire Runhappy have underachieved so far (1 for 26 into Monday). -Brad Free 8:07 RP 1st UNFORESEEN (#10, 3-1) ran a credible race on the dirt last time but now returns to turf, site of her best Beyer Speed Figures. -Mary Rampellini 8:15 DMR 7th SABINOS PRIDE (#4, 5-1) returns to her preferred turf surface, and gets the call in a wide-open turf mile for 3yo claiming fillies. She is facing easier than she met in two recent starts against older on dirt; either turf start this spring would probably be good enough. The tepid pace scenario suits ‘PRIDE just fine; she led wire to wire three back and both career wins were accomplished on the front end. -Brad Free 8:45 DMR 8th This stakes for Cal-bred 2yos is a do-over for TOUCHDOWN BROWN (#7, 5-1), last at even-money in a similar Cal-bred stakes last month. He had a legitimate alibi. He checked early, lost position while shuffled, then stayed there. The debacle does not reflect the ability he showed in his debut two back when he crushed by more than five lengths. ‘BROWN trained well since his last, adds blinkers, and gets a rider switch. Amends forthcoming. -Brad Free 11:23 RP 8th AWESOME SATURDAY (#6, 4-1) moves back to the overnight ranks after a stakes start. He also returns to turf and while it’s been a while since he’s run on the green, he is a winner on the grass. -Mary Rampellini
