DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, September 23, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:08 PIM 2nd LOST MY VOWCHER (#1, 5-1) can get a bit fractious in the preliminaries, but he was reclaimed out of his last start by Claudio Gonzalez (6 for 14, 43%, $3.31 ROI on dirt between Sept. 16 and Sept. 18), and it's worth noting that the gelding's most recent victory came for Gonzalez in his final run in 2021. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:10 WO 1st PUGIN (#1, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:55 GP 4th CONCEPTUS (#4, 6-1) has shown speed vs much better in two previous starts although obviously bit of a question switching to the Tapeta. Might stand some catching if taking to the new surface in a field posing many question marks with 6 first time starters in the body of the race. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:03 PIM 4th SWEET TALIA (#5, 4-1) has hit the board in her last four dirt starts and gave a good try going two turns at Timonium last month. Tracked a moderate pace over a speed-friendly track, advanced three wide on the final bend, was bumped in the stretch, and was gaining on Flava's Dream (returned to run third for $28,000 at Delaware with a 65 Beyer). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:36 BAQ 2nd BOSS CARA (#2, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (David Aragona). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:54 GP 6th BIG JOHN (#1, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Welsch). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:03 PIM 6th There's a chance they go fast early, and MOJOVATION (#9, 4-1) might be the one to benefit from off the pace. Eight-time winner earned a big Beyer four back at Parx, and recently faced off with a good group at Delaware (stablemate Yodel E.A. Who returned to win an allowance at Delaware with a 94 Beyer). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:11 WO 5th FORESTER'S TURN (#3, 10-1) earned big Beyers in the low 80s in July before getting claimed from a dull effort on Aug. 14, after which he struggled in a turf experiment at the N1X class. He's adding blinkers for the move back down to $15K, and his trainer had a 13% strike rate second time off a claim over the past five years ($2.61 ROI). -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:38 BAQ 4th Looks like this pace could heat up, which helps the cause of BIG ENGINE (#8, 8-1); his recent form has been a little spotty, but he showed signs of life last time, closing resolutely behind a pair of classy claiming foes; might be turning things around for a barn that looks like it's waking up from its Spa slump; plus McCarthy rides this runner well. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:28 LRC 2nd SOUL SWEET (#3, 6-1) might have needed her return try two back at least to some extent. Her most recent was better. This filly loves this dirt and gets decent race flow. Form cycle is a plus as this gal goes third off the layoff. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:30 GP 9th SILVIA V'S HEROES (#4, 8-1) turned in credible effort from inside draw in debut now dons blinkers and showing bullet work subsequent to that outing on resume'. Kin to a pair of older siblings with career earnings of $290K and $320K respectively. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:15 BAQ 7th CONSTITUTIONLAWYER (#5, 15-1) showed some affinity for turf when staying on for 3rd in his July debut on grass; simply got the wrong trip last time when getting rank while going extremely wide around both turns during a time when the rail was the best place to be on the inner course; is better than he looks and shouldn't mind added distance. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:20 GG 2nd A sharp drop in class may help a few runners in this field of six. KNOWN (#5, 4-1) is winless in five starts in higher level claiming races since mid-May when he won for the sixth time in his career. A synthetic track veteran, Known fits these conditions and can be a factor from off the pace with any luck in running. Known was not helped with a six-wide trip turning into the stretch on Aug. 27. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:15 BAQ 9th Thought AUNT VIRGINIA (#4, 6-1) looked interesting last time before that race got rained off; was encouraged by how well she ran on dirt, overcoming a bad stumble at the start to fly up the rail into 2nd; seems like more of a turf type and think she can move forward getting back on that surface, 2nd off the claim for these connections. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:05 LRC 7th THIRSTY PAPPY (#2, 6-1) broke dead last in his debut but got needed race experience no matter the result. His second start was much better and now he adds another half furlong. There is some speed in this race and we know this guy can pass runners. We even like this inside post that isn't the rail. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:28 MED 2nd ROB THE TREASURE (#2, 8-1) might be the deceptive clear speed in this seemingly paceless route, as she draws inside main pace foe POSTINO'S IDOL; she doesn't necessarily need the lead to win, and that gives her some options, which should lead to a favorable trip either loose on the lead or stalking the latter. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
8:20 GG 8th PERFECTIONISTIC (#4, 7-2) was fourth in his only start on the synthetic track at Golden Gate Fields in March and has had only two subsequent races. But the manner of Perfectionistic's fourth in an allowance race on synthetic earlier this year may lead to his first win in more than a year. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
8:20 WBS (Harness) 5th HEAVENS SHOWGIRL A (#6, 6-1) just won at this level from a bad post and now she draws best; classy mare gets the call to repeat. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
8:24 MED 4th DREAMING THOUSAND (#3, 12-1) gets back on the grass, which does seem to be his best surface; he's one-for-25 lifetime but only seven of those races were on the green, and his most recent races on the turf produced Beyers that fit well with this group. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
9:31 RP 4th ERNIE BANKER (#5, 10-1) exits a tough race against steeper - one that went in good time and one that is expected to produce starters for the David M. Vance Sprint here Sunday. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
9:40 YR (Harness) 9th B NICKING (#1, 2-1) added trotting hobbles last week and pilot George Brennan drove with confidence, firing to the top and this guy jogged. Technically he gets to drop in class and draws best looking to wire them again. – Matt Rose | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
