DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, September 2, 2022

DRF Staff|Sep 01, 2022
Saratoga scenic
Barbara D. Livingston Though 174 races were run on the turf during the Saratoga meet, 45 were taken off during an unusually wet summer.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:05 SAR 1st NICE 'N SPICY (#10, 6-1) was off slow and then ridden conservatively when failing to make a serious impact on turf first time out; switches to the main track for her second start with some pedigree to back her up, and she is perfectly drawn on the outside; expecting an improved performance with that experience out of the way. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:32 WO 2nd COUSIN BOB (#5, 6-1) had a three-wide journey last time when fourth going long. The 4yo is turning back to the distance of his maiden triumph, and should be dangerous with leading rider Kimura taking over. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:35 GP 5th LA RUSIA (#3, 6-1) looked good beating $8KB foes on this track at this type of trip June 30. She then found starter allowance foes too tough to handle July 30 but she's back to a better level and reunited with Jaramillo, who was up for that June 30 and some of her best other work. -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:12 WO 5th TRICKY MAGICIAN (#4, 6-1) was in tight late in the stretch while in the midst of his bid en route to a lapped-on fourth when turning back from a mile to five-eighths in his latest. He could track all the speed before going in for the kill in this six-furlong sprint with Salles back in the saddle. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:21 MTH 4th IMAGINE THE MOJO (#1, 7-2) finished in a dead heat with EXPECT TO BE READY in that last meeting but the latter had a slight tactical edge, and the former ran a better race than the line would indicate, when considering the race flow; Beyers on the rise. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:49 MTH 5th CONSISTENTLY (#6, 6-1) faded late after making a bid on the turn in her first start off the layoff but trainer Chad Brown wins of course with all types but he's at a strong 31% with horses making their second starts off this type of layoff; thinking this filly will improve off that effort today. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:11 GP 8th HERCULES (#6, 7-2) chased the pace and stayed on well for 2nd in a race just like this here July 9, finishing far clear of the others. Walder saw fit to claim him and has strong off-the-claim numbers. -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:29 SAR 7th SPEIGHT'SPERCOMETE (#1, 8-1) has never run over turf through nine starts to date, though he is bred to handle this surface being by the versatile sire Speightstown, and a half to a turf winner; dam is a sister to multiple Grade 2 dirt winner Munnings, and this is the female family of graded stakes-winning turf runners La Gueriere, Lasting Approval, and Icon Project; interesting switching to turf and dropping for hot connections. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:39 SAR 9th LADY SCARLET (#3, 12-1) has yet to earn a figure that matches up with the main players in this Prioress field, though she has clearly improved since being claimed by these connections last November and is now a two-time stakes winner sprinting on dirt; owns a handy running style that she combines with a quick burst of speed when asked and can threaten in this race at a price if timing it right. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:50 GG 3rd CLASS CODE (#2, 4-1), a winner at Santa Rosa last month, is a slight choice over the Southern California shipper A THOUSAND DREAMS. Class Code won a race at this level against three rivals at Santa Rosa on Aug. 7, closing from two lengths off the pace to win by a nose. She can be handy for jockey Irving Orozco, a replacement for Silvio Amador, who will miss Friday's card while serving the second of a three-day suspension for causing interference at Ferndale. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:13 SAR 10th MEDIA SENSATION (#4, 10-1) steadily improved once getting stretched out on turf and he was unlucky in that last start on this surface when getting bumped hard at the start with his rider appearing to lose his balance briefly, and then winding up in tight behind horses early, before just coming up short; back to turf off the claim. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:48 GG 7th COOL MOUNTAIN LAD (#7, 4-1) was the lucky runner in the Oak Tree Sprint at Pleasanton in July, winning a six-furlong race in which several rivals had troubled trips caused by a loose horse. Cool Mountain Lad returned to run a very good third in a tough allowance race at Santa Rosa on Aug. 13, losing by a length at five furlongs. This slightly longer race, which should have a good pace, should benefit Cool Mountain Lad. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

9:59 RP 5th COST A FORTUNE (#8, 8-1) shortens up a tad in distance and her natural speed should serve her well making such a move. She's also appealing as a three-time winner who owns the field's best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

10:00 WBS (Harness) 10th SHES GOT IT ALL (#7, 5-2) takes a big drop here and she easily won two straight at one level higher than this back in May. She should get sent straight to the front and lead these all the way. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

10:55 RP 7th GOLDBRIDGE (#5, 6-1) moves to the main track and shows a nice five-eighths move over the local main track. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

11:51 RP 9th RUMPUS (#6, 10-1) cuts back to one turn after showing speed around two, and that can be an effective move with a horse. She's a winner at five-eighths and a winner on turf. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
