DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, Sept. 4, 2026

Sep 03, 2026
Woodbine Scenic04.04-26-26.JUW
Julie Wright In Friday's sixth race at Woodbine, Breezero is Ron Gierkink's best bet.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:57 CNL 2nd STRIKE POINT (#7, 4-1) is one of two Not This Time colts in the field and seems likely to do some running on debut for Stidham; the sire wins with an exceptional 17% of debuting juveniles, while the dam Lady Montdore was a Grade 2 winner on turf who has also produced the turf stakes winner Montador; it's possible that he will want to go longer at some point, but he wouldn't be a surprise here. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race

1:10 SAR 1st FLAMENCO (#3, 9-2) goes out for a trainer who has saddled two debut winners on turf at the meet so far; this filly is a half-sister to Spendarella and Spanish Queen, both Grade 1 winners on the grass, and both also debut winners. - Mike Beer | Get Past Performances for this race

2:11 WO 3rd PRINCESSONAMISSION (#3, 15-1) ran well in each of her last two outings on the grass at Fort Erie. She was competitive on the Tapeta here in the past and should be a factor in this $15K non-two route while being reunited with Nicholls. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race

3:06 GP 6th DAMA DU SUCRE (#7, 6-1) ran evenly in her debut all while getting needed race experience. Team Barboza are 14% with their 2nd time maidens. We like this outside draw. This is dam's first foal so no help there. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race

3:21 CNL 7th BYWAY (#11, 5-1) is one of two fillies entered by Russell, but she arguably has more upside in her long-awaited 3-year-old debut; she has not run since October, when she won a $49,000 maiden special weight at Laurel with a 62 Beyer; that effort would put her in the mix here if she had earned it a month ago, but instead, she has had ample time to develop and mature at Fair Hill; she could come back with much more, as Russell has chosen a bold spot to bring her back. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race

3:28 SAR 5th SILVER JACKPOT (#3, 8-1) is the first foal from her dam, who was a turf sprint winner; her second dam was a Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed on the grass, and she was also precocious while winning the first two starts of her career; well-bred filly has looked good breezing to this surface leading up to the debut. - Mike Beer | Get Past Performances for this race

3:53 WO 6th BREEZERO (#5, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get Past Performances for this race

4:27 WO 7th NEW RENAISSANCE (#4, 6-1) is continuing her slide down the value ladder off a fading fourth vs. $15K maidens and may have found a field that she can beat. The 4yo worked okay as the target for the promising 3yo Pepper Brooks the other day, breezing five-eighths in 1:00. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race

4:47 GP 9th SLEW LADY (#7, 9-2) blew the start in her debut but it was going short on the sod. Her second start was just poor but also her first on the dirt. Lone sibling is 6-3-1-2 on the grass and earned 156K (quite good on an off track also). This filly gets in light and tries two turns for the first time all on the class drop. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race

5:30 DMR 2nd First-time starter KOOL KITTEN (#4, 5-1) looks ready to fire in this sprint for Cal-bred maiden fillies and mares based on sharp recent works. She worked inside a three-way team Aug. 6, and worked well while pulling her rider out of the saddle; her most recent drill Aug. 23 was a bullet :46.80 from the gate. Indications are 'KITTEN is quick, and possibly the one to catch. If she can stay six and a half, she might be gone. - Brad Free | Get Past Performances for this race

6:17 SAR 10th ROAGNA (#1, 6-1) was an impressive debut winner way back at the end of 2023, after which she continuously tried, and failed, to clear her first-level allowance condition; traffic trouble left her with too much to do when she was finally given class relief at the end of last year; was tightened up when put on the lead off the layoff, then finished gamely to close down a rival getting the jump on her last time; threat right back. - Mike Beer | Get Past Performances for this race

6:50 SAR 11th DIVIDEND RECAP (#5, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get Past Performances for this race

7:06 DMR 5th Second-start longshot IMNOSURETHING (#6, 6-1) is worth backing in this Cal-bred maiden-20 for 2yo fillies despite an eighth-place debut she lost by more than 20 lengths. She raced wide and retreated in that Cal-bred maiden-50. But now she adds blinkers, and has worked okay in company since raced. Easier foes this time, potentially more speed with the addition of blinkers, and her trainer Peter Eurton has been successful adding blinkers on second-start maidens. Tab for a minor upset. - Brad Free | Get Past Performances for this race

8:26 RP 3rd TWELVE VOLT (#3, 8-1) was a game winner in his latest when he rallied from off the pace but he is quick enough to stay close to the lead if need be, and that could be an edge given the expected race flow; steady Beyers add to the appeal. - Kenny Peck | Get Past Performances for this race

8:42 DMR 8th FORD FRENZY (#11, 6-1), runaway debut winner opening weekend, moves up to face Cal-bred allowance foes as potential pacesetter. He set fast fractions in his debut, shook off his pace rivals, and won by more than seven lengths. He has had plenty time to recover from the effort, he has worked steadily since, and drew comfortably outside. With a front-running or pace-pressing trip, 'FRENZY can win right back. The knock on his debut is that six horses he defeated ran back, and produced only a pair of fourth-place finishes. - Brad Free | Get Past Performances for this race

9:22 RP 5th HAPPY I AM (#1, 6-1) adds blinkers yet will likely still be looking to make the last run, and there does seem to be enough speed to the outside to set him up in the lane; Beyers fit well enough and this does seem to be an average field for the class level. - Kenny Peck | Get Past Performances for this race

10:18 RP 7th BY THE BOTTLE (#2, 6-1) stretches out as she switches to turf for the first time and this has proven to be a decent angle for the Calhoun barn, which clicks at 17%, with a $2.43 ROI, when combining these two angles; pedigree offers no clues as to her ability to handle this new surface (dam was unraced, neither foal raced on grass) but this filly is working well enough to suggest she'll take a step forward off the break. - Kenny Peck | Get Past Performances for this race

11:42 RP 10th SPA CITY GIRL (#5, 15-1) was off the board in her first start in three months but that was a route and she is a professional turf sprinter, with three such wins to her credit; she has the ability to race on the lead or win from off the pace, and that versatility has been a big reason for her success. - Kenny Peck | Get Past Performances for this race
