DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, November 6, 2026

Nov 05, 2026
Del Mar scenics04.7.17.26.BA (2)
Benoit Photo Del Mar opens its fall meet with an eight-race card Friday, starting at 3:30 p.m. Eastern.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:00 LRL 1st ARCHIMEDES (#7, 6-1) was forced off the turf in his first start for new trainer Farrior last time out, though he still showed mild interest coming off a short layoff; the colt clearly needed a breather at the end of the summer after a handful of strong performances for Maker; back to his preferred surface now. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race

12:40 BEL 1st Can see why OYAKATA (#5, 6-1) sold for $600k at Fasig-Tipton Timonium earlier this year as he covered the ground beautifully, displaying a massive stride in that untimed sales work; missed two months of training this summer, so he's getting a late start to his career; yet Vekoma has few peers as a debut influence, and this colt has plenty of pedigree to route; George Weaver is better with horses debuting on turf, but can win with a dirt route firster every now and then. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race

12:50 GP 2nd CELESTIAL HYMN (#3, 8-1) is a 5YO making a late debut but we dig these older maidens as they often out run their odds. Plus, someone thought enough of this horse to stick with it and get said horse to the races. Sire gets 8% debut winners. Her dam went 8-2-1-0 and earned 28K. Three of four sibs won with a pair having beat winners (49K and 72K). Works are steady. We will have to insist on a price though. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race

12:56 LRL 3rd LOVLEECRUISE (#7, 15-1) will make her debut for McMahon after a typically rigorous training schedule at Laurel; the trainer likes to have them ready on first asking and has had some luck recently; sire Long On Value screams distance on turf, making this a highly logical spot to try early on. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race

1:22 GP 3rd ANY MOMENT (#7, 5-1) goes second out for new barn and we like how they find her a tougher spot. Did connections enter the 4 horse so that this race would fill? If so, then that is even better. This filly draws outside and has tactical speed in a race with an average pace. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race

1:29 CD 2nd Unfortunately no work video for firster RUMOR MILL (#7, 15-1), but the pattern, times, pedigree - and, I'll be honest: vibe - suggest to me this is a live debuter at a price. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race

1:33 WO 2nd BONGINO WARRIOR (#4, 7-2), who's had a checkered campaign, could finally earn his diploma in his 10th appearance of the meet. He was headed for victory before ducking out and losing his rider in deep stretch July 19. The homebred is coming off a better-than-looked third Oct. 22 when he had a wide journey over a track with a golden rail. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race

1:40 BEL 3rd EASTPOINTE (#2, 12-1) gets some changes here, making his first start as a new gelding, dropping in for a tag, and switching to turf; all of those alterations should benefit him; Mind Control has had a bit of success with turf runners and the dam has produced a turf winner; didn't get ideal trips in either prior race and was simply overmatched in his debut on this circuit; expecting better under these circumstances. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race

2:04 WO 3rd First-timers could rule this $25K maiden claimer. SAMBATION (#6, 7-2) has worked well from the gate for high-percentage debut trainer Tino Attard and is by the good juvenile sire Silent Name. - Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race

2:32 GP 5th CLASSIC EQUATION (#6, 15-1) didn't do much off the layoff but that is fine as it helps the price. A return to two turns is ideal while those Tampa tries before the layoff fit with these. Leon gets a leg up for team Narvaez and they are 3 for 6 together. - Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race

2:41 BEL 5th SARA'S SHAMAN (#8, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (David Aragona). | Get Past Performances for this race

2:57 CD 5th ALTADENA (#8, 6-1) entered for turf in her debut but ran so well after that race rained off that connections gave her a dirt look second out - and discovered they were right to think they had a turf horse. Third out they tried her long on grass - she didn't stay. Fourth out, long again, and rained out again. I come to the conclusion that if this race stays on, a talented filly will, for the first time, get to do what she wants to do, which is sprint on grass. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race

3:19 LRL 8th CANDY MOONSHINE (#7, 5-1) was forced off turf last time out and did no running, but Gorham challenged this filly at Saratoga all summer and she was far from disgraced in that truly brutal company, finished fourth in a restricted stakes and first-level allowance; she's long overdue for a shot at Laurel. - Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race

3:36 WO 6th DESIGN DIVA (#3, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get Past Performances for this race

3:55 CD 7th Want no part of the shorter prices and looking at this confusing race as a laboratory for chaos. COLT FORTY SEVEN (#1, 6-1) has form all over the place - voided claim for $50K, but ran last out for a mere $10K. He's generally been "good enough" to contend here, has a win at CD, and - who knows - might be able to stick close enough to a moderate pace. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race

4:01 DMR 2nd PIEDRA FRIA (#1, 5-1) was off the board in his latest but he returns to a sprint today and that debut try suggests that this is his best game; he was sharp in that score, showing good tactical speed while down inside and driving clear late, and the resulting Beyer gives him strong credibility in this optional claimer. - Kenny Peck | Get Past Performances for this race

4:14 BEL 8th There really isn't much speed in this maiden claimer, so hoping that THUNDERTAKER (#5, 15-1) can get a more aggressive ride than last time; probably wasn't swift enough to make the front through such fast fractions sprinting anyway, but he did at least seem to handle the turf fairly well; still have some hope for this guy improving on this surface; has a stride pattern that suggests longer may be better, as well as the right rider on his back to take advantage of a murky pace scenario. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race

4:55 CD 9th BABY HELLO (#7, 6-1) abysmal two back making dirt debut - but far, far better winning last out, and don't believe it was merely the class drop that produced that performance. Until the last start she'd faced higher-class horses than these, and though the win came over 5 1/2, one might guess this 7f could work just as well. Decent break and she could fall into an ideal trip. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race

6:03 DMR 6th TAILGUNNER JOE (#1, 12-1) makes his U. S. debut in the Let It Ride Stakes for trainer Jonathan Thomas, who scored with Miss Nightfall in her first stateside try after shipping over from England, capturing an AN1X turf route at Saratoga (88 Beyer), and this gelding was apparently working with that filly at Turfway; barn's record with new faces is stellar (six-for-12 going back to last year) and though this closer lacks speed there is plenty of pace to his outside. - Kenny Peck | Get Past Performances for this race

7:03 DMR 8th OTTIS BETTS (#4, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get Past Performances for this race

8:26 RP 3rd BRAVITAS (#2, 6-1) and BOARD OF DIRECTORS give Evans a couple good looks at this. The former comes here sharp and that last second looks even better when you note he was slow early, racing in slop he might not have relished and was wide. - Michael Hammersly | Get Past Performances for this race

9:22 RP 5th JOHN (#6, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Michael Hammersly). | Get Past Performances for this race
