DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, November 13, 2020

DRF Staff|Nov 12, 2020
Collusion Illusion (right) wins the 2020 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar
Benoit Photo Collusion Illusion (right) wins the Bing Crosby. If he can win his next two races, starting with Sunday's Santa Anita Sprint Championship, he could be named 2020 sprint champion.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:35 GPW 1st DREAM WILLCOME (#2, 10-1) has been away a long time, finally returns in new hands as a first time gelding and without the blinkers he wore in his most recent start. Encountered trouble in both career starts but lures Paco and down low enough to perhaps win right off the bench sporting near bullet work with this bunch. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:19 AQU 3rd FIVE ALARM ROBIN (#12, 15-1) dropped off the layoff to make her seasonal turf debut at Saratoga and wired with a competitive 77 Beyer, then stepped up to chase the streaking Robin Sparkles to no avail; back down to a more appropriate level in a race without a ton of other speed signed on. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:24 LRL 3rd Thought the inside was the place to be on October 10 and GOLD FINCH (#8, 6-1) tracked the leaders from the three path before swinging to the far outside leaving the turn and heading into the lane. She actually gained a bit of ground while the favored winner skimmed the rail to nip the early pacesetter (drifted off the inside) in the final sixteenth. Half-sister to several blacktype earners including multiple stakes-winning dirt sprinter Steady Warrior and stakes-winning dirt miler Steady N Love worked a swift bullet last Friday and might get some pace to attack. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:45 AQU 4th LUCKY LINDSEY (#4, 10-1) debuted over this track earlier this year and chased frontrunning favorite Pure Wow from the outside before fading to 3rd in the stretch, then showed speed and faded on turf when last seen in June; filly will take on the boys while dropping in class in her return to dirt for a trainer who has been on a nice run of late. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:03 GPW 4th ROUGH STUFF (#6, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Welsch). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:15 AQU 5th SIDING SPRING (#3, 10-1) has run well in his last two starts on turf without winning, and he was just fine on the main track when rained off at Saratoga two starts back; versatile 7yo owns good speed and is dangerous on either surface at this level. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:24 LRL 5th CUE THE BAND (#9, 15-1) is a half-brother to stakes-placed dirt router Golden Money by a red-hot first-crop stallion (Not This Time is 11 for 42 with debut runners). The dam is a half-sister to juvenile Grade 2-placed dirt router Racecar Rhapsody while the second dam, an older debut winner, was a stakes-winner going a mile on sloppy dirt. The fourth dam was a champion juvenile filly in France. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:45 AQU 6th THE LAST ACE (#5, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:54 LRL 6th FREE DANCER (#1, 15-1) earned career-best Beyer Speed Figure three starts back when beating Reform School at Mountaineer, then don’t believe he was as comfortable around two turns in his two subsequent outings. Got cooked in a very hot pace battle with Fiber and Emily most recently in a race that went to closers and might secure the lead and inside position from his rail draw here. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:05 GPW 6th MONEY HOUSE (#3, 12-1) one of several in here exiting well graded Hard West dash on 10/24. Continues to show well in the a.m., might be worth a look at a square price. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:54 LRL 8th LAWN BOY (#3, 10-1) showed an improved kick when dropped into the $16,000 starter ranks at Pimlico. Saved ground at the back of the pack, was on hold in behind rivals swinging into the lane, then finished with mild interest while following the winner’s path (Thundershook returned to finish second with an 85 Beyer in a “two-other-than” optional claimer). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:45 WO 1st SECRET PATH (#4, 6-1) is dropping from $25K to meet much easier NW2 stock in this $15K seller, with Contreras taking over for trainer Don MacRae. Seven-eighths is the distance over which he earned his diploma. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:00 DMR 4th MIDNIGHT JAMBOREE (#5, 3-1) was best last out in a similar maiden-20 route, but she was eliminated at the break when she stumbled badly and was away last. She made an extended run on the backstretch and through the far turn, where she rallied past most of the field to loom a threat at the quarter pole, then lost her punch. All in all, it was a super effort by lightly raced filly, and it was over the Del Mar track. That race was nearly three months ago, her work pattern looks solid. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:15 WO 2nd PINKY DUDE (#3, 6-1) raced wide over an inside-biased track when beaten a neck while plunging in value to the basement a month ago. He should be prominent off the claim with P. Husbands getting the mount. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:14 WO 4th GRAZELY (#5, 8-1) raced four-wide most of the way last time before landing on the edges in a slow-paced OS/$40K route. The lightly-raced 3yo has worked quickly leading up to this $25K contest, and seems poised to put it all together with Fukumoto back aboard. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:46 WO 7th ABSTEMIOUS (#11, 6-1) got wiped out at the break before showing nothing during a wide trip second-time out in a Nov. 1 maiden special. He was along for third in his debut against OS/$40K maidens, and could have these $25K maidens within his sights. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:30 DMR 9th First start in nearly a year, C FALLS (#4, 5-1) returns in a maiden-50 turf route as the fastest, best horse in the field while entered with the no-claim waiver. That typically signals optimism. He finished third at this class level last fall and returns for excellent layoff trainer Shelbe Ruis, who is 4-for-17 with comebackers off six months or more including a July victory by maiden-claiming turf router Montana Moon. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
