DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, May 29, 2020

With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:35 TAM 1st SEVENTYSEVENWILOW (#5, 8-1) stretches out to two turns for the first time in over a year and he seems to land in an ideal spot, as he has proven speed and this opener is light on pace; could be tough to reel in if he’s able to get loose easily enough and back down the splits. -Kenny Peck
12:45 GP 1st VEER (#5, 5-1) has a nice foundation of route races for the move to a mile and an eighth and also owns one of the field’s best collections of Beyer Speed Figures. -Mary Rampellini
12:45 GP 1st VEER (#5, 5-1) made run at leaders, faltered late in relatively well graded $16K affair now drops another notch, earns slight edge if this one stays on grass. -Mike Welsch

2:46 GP 5th RACE DAY SPEED (#2, 6-1) ran a credible third in her debut despite significant trouble - trouble that started at the draw when she “pulled” the one-hole for her debut. She’s further appealing as a January foal facing some younger rivals. -Mary Rampellini
3:11 TAM 6th MATTY’S EXPRESS (#8, 5-1) has steady figures and he’s won two of his last three starts; he was unable to make up enough ground to threaten the top three in that last one but he did make a nice mid-race move to reach contention and then galloped out past them all after the wire. -Kenny Peck
3:49 GP 7th GOOD BYE GREG (#1, 9-2) another member of barn sporing surreal numbers with horses returning from this type of layoff. One of many speed types in lineup, too fast for the others if away cleanly from the rail. -Mike Welsch
4:15 TAM 8th STRONG GEM (#1, 4-1) comes out of a race against better and the Beyer she put up in defeat there makes her a top contender in this claimer for non-winners of three lifetime; she thrashed non-winners of two in her prior start and she’ll be a handful in the lane here if she gets an honest pace and a clean trip from the hedge. -Kenny Peck

4:33 SA 3rd LETS GET WILD (#1, 2-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Brad Free).
5:24 GP 10th WIND RIDGE (#6, 7-2) beaten several rivals in each of first two starts at the MSW level now plunges to pretty weak spot in finale. Gets call over the similarly class dropping SUPERHIGHWAY who will make an equipment change for the occasion. -Mike Welsch
5:37 SA 5th MUNNINGS’ PILOT (#1, 5-1) didn’t run badly at all in his turf sprint debut here Feb. 22 as he had a troubled start, rushed up to stalk, was then one-paced and had more trouble in the lane. He drops, has worked well and gets a shot a new, longer trip. – Michael Hammersly
