DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, March 5, 2021

DRF Staff|Mar 04, 2021
Oaklawn Park
Barbara D. Livingston Oaklawn returns to action with Thursday's card.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:25 LRL 1st WHY ROXIE WHY (#2, 7-2) is a half-sister to two debut winners out of a dam that was stakes-placed sprinting on dirt (99 Beyer top). Third dam won the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap. Trainer Claudio Gonzalez is 5 for the last 10 (50%, $4.00 ROI) with 3-year-old debut runners in dirt sprints. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:10 GP 1st KOLOHE PRINCE (#5, 7-2) second best behind Chipshape when stretching to seven furlongs, dropping to this level for first time, need only repeat effort to graduate. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:00 OP 1st ARTIE’S ROSE (#1, 9-2) moves back to two turns off a pair of competitive sprint races and she’s run well at this configuration in the past. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:15 TAM 5th SIERRA CAT (#6, 20-1) was off the board in both of his two-turn grass races to date but this is his first try vs. the locals on the turf, and he did have a pace excuse three back; the Beyer he posted in his most recent race on the green puts him in the mix with these and he should offer some value. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:20 AQU 3rd TAPIZEARANCE (#5, 8-1) caught a sloppy track when wheeled back on short rest off the claim last week and chased up close before tiring late in a race that held together in front of him; back quickly again cutting back slightly with efforts two and three back that look pretty good here. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:37 GP 4th COVE BLUE (#3, 6-1) did not break cleanly or get the best of trips off fairly lackluster pace when well back off the bench. Deserves another chance showing up for a tag. Could be dangerous if able to shake loose here. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:44 TAM 6th WALLYPOP (#2, 4-1) impressed in that first-out score for trainer Mike Stidham, who lost this gelding through the claim box to Cody Axmaker, who saddles him today; that was a game win and the final time produced a Beyer that was better than par for the class and distance, suggesting he’s capable of scoring in his first start against winners. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:50 AQU 4th MR GHOST (#2, 15-1) debuted last week on a day when the rail was likely a real advantage, though that was really a speed track, and he couldn’t get forward at a big price; was racing on some late and has the pedigree to stretch out as he cuts in half for his second start. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:57 LRL 6th PRESS MY BETS (#7, 9-2) received a very clever ride when winning his 4-year-old finale at Parx. The rider realized there wasn’t any speed in the race and sent this gelding to the front to control slow splits. He had plenty left in the lane to hold sway. Note he was listed as a vet scratch on New Year’s Day, but he’s won off a layoff in the past and shows a pair of bullet workouts leading up to this. Expecting a stalking trip this time around. Cedeno lands here instead of Honor the Fleet. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:02 OP 3rd Fair Grounds invader DULCIMER DAME (#3, 5-1) moves back to dirt and the last time she ran on the main track she was a winner. The start came at one turn, and she’s cutting back to that configuration, too. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:52 AQU 6th MISS MI MI (#2, 6-1) ran well to close down Rude Awakening off the layoff in December, then caught a wet track and didn’t run as poorly as it may appear two starts back; tough go last time while chasing 3-to-4 wide throughout on a day when the rail was a big advantage. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:03 SA 2nd This maiden-30 sprint is a good spot to take a shot at a price with LULU D’ ORO (#, 6-1). She worked better than she ran first time out, perhaps the race was merely a prep. She was rated, appeared uncomfortable early, dropped back and ran around the track. It was odd, because she reportedly had outworked her stablemate (drawn to her outside this race), but it looked like ‘ORO was only pepping. Two easy works since, blinkers on, tab for an odds-beating effort. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:12 GP 7th VIKING QUEEN (#1, 6-1) over-matched in last pair although turned in credible effort behind likes of stakes caliber I Get It in most recent. Not facing that kind today. Should get another rail-skimming trip with Lanerie up. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:10 OP 9th JAMES’S MOONSHINE (#12, 6-1) returns to racing with Arkansas-bred company with the meet now on at Oaklawn. He owns a strong series of Beyer Figures. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:45 SA 7th LI’L GRAZEN (#5, 5-2) could be tough to catch in this Cal-bred N1X/optional claiming race is otherwise void of speed. The front-running mare figures to make the lead against a field of closers, and be gone while taking a significant class drop from $25k claiming starter. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:16 SA 8th FULL OF LUCK (#1, 4-1) was no factor in a sprint vs. tougher here Feb. 21 but think of that sprint as a prep, particularly as it was his first start in over 8 months. Drops and that plus the move to this longer trip may snap this former stakes horse back to life. – Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
