DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, March 11, 2022

DRF Staff|Mar 10, 2022
Tampa Bay Downs turf racing
Tom Keyser First post for Tampa Bay Downd racing is scheduled for 11:55 a.m. ET on Saturday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:43 TAM 2nd PREFERRED OUTCOME (#5, 3-1) makes his third start off the layoff and seems to land in a very good spot in terms of race flow, as there's very little speed in this sprint and he has a hint of early zip; he may in fact be quick enough to shake loose in the opening stages at this slightly extended distance and he can certainly steal this if he gets away with a loose lead and tepid fractions. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:27 LRL 3rd VICTORY GIVEN (#6, 4-1) hasn't won since the tail end of 2020, but appears to be rounding back into form. Tracked outside last time, made an early three-wide move into the teeth of the pace and battled gamely in between horses. Believe he can adapt to any pace scenario. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:52 AQU 2nd BAR FOURTEEN (#2, 6-1) is 0-7 on dirt to this point, but that doesn't mean that he hasn't run well on this surface in the past; has speed stretching out to a mile off the claim, which comes after chasing a fast pace vs. class-dropping Prisoner (84 Beyer); Sciacca underrated with new acquisitions. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:22 AQU 3rd RESERVATION (#9, 5-1) caught a sloppy track for his career debut last month and was put to an immediate drive in that spot while never able to keep within range of the leaders; did appear to be making a very belated run in that spot, and he galloped out well after the wire, suggesting he might have needed the run; Rudy 10 for his last 25 (40%) in maiden claiming races with second-time starters on dirt adding blinkers, $3.52 ROI. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:27 LRL 5th Class quiz for NASHVEGAS (#3, 4-1) who enters off a solid pace-pressing score for $12,500. Hopped a bit at the start, pushed the reasonable fractions outside, took over three wide with five-sixteenths to run and was better than that group. He's won from off the pace in the past and might adopt those tactics here. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:29 OP 2nd STOCK DEAL (#2, 4-1) should be sharp for the move back to two turns off the sprint start. He also gets in lighter than these under "seven-pound" apprentice Medellin. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:58 LRL 6th SHE'S A BIG DEAL (#3, 6-1) must improve in order to upset this group, but think she'll appreciate stretching out slightly in distance, and she has the tactical speed to stay close to the pace. Tracked the quick splits from in between horses last month, stayed in turning for home, angled to the rail and gave a once-paced finish. One of only two multiple-race winners in the field. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:15 TAM 7th HALLANVAARA (#9, 15-1) seemed to be making a nice move while down inside on the turf last time when she was forced to check hard, and nearly unseated rider Rocco Bowen; the 60 Beyer she posted in her only other try on the green, in her career debut, is plenty good enough to win this if she gets a clean trip and can run to it. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:20 TUP 2nd BIG FASHION (#6, 6-1) is by a 6% debut turf sire. Her dam never tried the sod. Two of three sibs won on the green. This filly ran evenly in her debut and that is just the kind of debut we like to see. Hot rider keeps the call and this filly is bred to love two turns. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:20 TAM 9th DOUBLE DOT (#8, 6-1) is back on the course over which she posted the lone win of her career, and she should find the locals more her speed after facing similar at Gulfstream in her last couple of starts; this is another seemingly average field at best for the class level and she will be a threat late if she rebounds off that dull try in her second start off the layoff. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:24 LRL 9th LOST MY VOWCHER (#2, 6-1) is very comfortable at this distance and exits a good effort returning to two turns. Broke a beat slow, saved ground behind a solid pace, was steadied in between rivals on the backstretch, made a four-wide bid turning for home and got up for second despite lugging in just a bit. Occasionally gets riled up behind the starting gate. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:26 TUP 4th COPPER CHARM (#2, 8-1) looks better if you discount that turf try three back something she isn't bred for anyway. We love her most recent and of course it was a Beyer top. Lots and lots of speed in here and that should make for a nice trip from this inside post that isn't the rail. This barn is 30% with horses that won their last race. A recent work rounds out the appeal. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:30 SA 3rd Improving last-out maiden winner INCREASE STAKES (#6, 3-1) gets a beneficial pace scenario for her first vs. winners. She may be the controlling speed from the outside post in this small field of Cal-bred fillies and mares. The challenges are she is a 3yo coming off a maiden victory and facing older winners; and also a course profile against her front-running style (see stats, race 1). Nonetheless, 'STAKES could become the first gate-to-wire-winner this meet at 6f on turf with the rails at 20. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:57 TUP 5th MISSCZECH (#7, 5-1) has good upside and just won at a flat mile. Second time this distance can only help and she is bred to like two turns. This barn is 22% with horses that won their last race. There is some speed in this race but not overtly. HH leaves for the Hone runner but that is no surprise. A few others have better figs but that just means a better price for this filly. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:10 OP 9th FORSAKEN (#6, 6-1) cuts back to one turn, site of his best finishes to date. He removes blinkers and put up one of his best Beyer Figures without the equipment. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:00 WBS (Harness) 4th MACHIN A TRICK (#6, 5-2) roared home in 25 4/5 to get the job done and he gets the call to repeat off that sharp effort. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

10:15 YR (Harness) 11th LOUIE LOUIE (#4, 3-1) got looped leaving and ended up hung the mile last week in his finale for Burke as he was claimed by the strong Bako barn. Gelding draws a reasonable enough post and meets a very soft field; down the road. – Matt Rose | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

11:00 MED (Harness) 13th GREYSTONE NATALIO (#1, 15-1) tried to close from 11th last week and predictably couldn’t make it happen. She gets some key class relief this time around and figures to see aggressive handling. – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
