DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, June 17, 2022

DRF Staff|Jun 16, 2022
Disco Pharoah wins the Frank Whiteley Stakes at Laurel Park
Jerry Dzierwinski/Maryland Jockey Club In just his fourth start, Disco Pharoah shipped down to Laurel and won the Frank Whiteley Stakes.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:40 LRL 1st HEIDI T (#1, 6-1) hit the board in first two starts out of the maiden ranks including solid runner-up try behind five-time winner No More Mask on April 8. Stalked the quick pace in the five path that afternoon, dropped inside on the turn, angled three deep turning for home, and was second best. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:10 WO 1st PUGIN (#2, 9-2) toppled NW2 rivals after a lovely stalking trip in his fourth start off the bench 12 days ago, and could strike again in this tougher conditioned tilt going the same 6 1/2-furlong distance. His trainer began the meet on a positive note and Anderson retains the mount. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:08 LRL 4th POSTERITY (#4, 12-1) listed as a Delaware vet scratch on June 2, might be using this start, his first following 238-days on the sidelines, as a stepping-stone. He ran some useful races last year including his most recent start, a marathon here on Oct. 22. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:56 MTH 3rd ALMA ROSA (#7, 6-1) is kin to a four-time winner in Ghostly Beauty, and while that runner was a turfer her sire, Sharp Azteca, posted all eight of his wins on the dirt and he's already had a pair of 2-year-old winners, from nine tries; working nicely toward her debut. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:03 BEL 5th WRITE THIS DOWN (#6, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:12 WO 5th RAPID RELOAD (#4, 8-1) has performed well on both surfaces and was victorious after battling three-wide for the lead on the turn in his season opener on the Tapeta, from which the runner-up exited to graduate with an 82 Beyer. He worked a bullet half-mile on the training track the other day and should be prominent in this NW2. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:08 BEL 7th SHESADANCINGQUEEN (#11, 15-1) debuted for this tag in April and might have gained some useful experience in that spot while racing on gamely throughout the six furlongs after breaking slowly from the gate; half-sister to six turf winners can build off of that effort for a trainer who has good numbers with horses like this. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:14 LRL 8th PRINCE PERE (#5, 6-1) gave a good account against open company last month. Tracked the solid pace in between horses, altered course sharply to the rail turning for home, and had to squeeze through a very tight spot in midstretch before giving an even finish. Beyers going the right way as he makes third start of the form cycle. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:17 WO 7th AND ME TOO (#3, 10-1) has worked fast and is bred for speed. The son of Old Forester is a half-brother to the quick sprinter Click and his full-brother, Fortius, was a victorious turf sprinter at Fort Erie. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:20 MTH 6th SOUPER ENERGIZER (#3, 10-1) will need to post an improved Beyer to win this but he has license to take a step forward off that last one, when he was forced to steady late after running up behind the leaders in the lane, with no room to run; he galloped out nicely after the wire there and if he gets a clean trip and a quick, contested pace perhaps he is good enough to pull off the upset. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:40 BEL 8th NEWBOMB (#5, 5-1) has won each of his last two starts vs. allowance rivals, including an 89 Beyer over this track and trip last October when showing speed and fighting off next-out winner Cost Basis; perfectly drawn outside the other speeds looking to fire fresh for the second straight year. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:48 MTH 7th CANDY CANE LANE (#5, 6-1) made a mid-race run on the turn and continued well to the wire to get the show, making a nice late rally to just miss catching INTERNET OF THINGS for the place; he's a stone closer reliant on pace but if he gets decent fractions to chase he may be able to run them all down on the wire. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:10 SA 7th D'Amato-trained stablemates CARPE VINUM (#4, 4-1) and MACADAMIA top this allowance turf mile. CARPE VINUM is the one to beat based on her second-by-a-nose finish under similar conditions two back. She was in tough last out in a G3 marathon, she finished in the money her last three starts at this level. She has enough speed to be forwardly placed in a race likely to unfold at a slow pace. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:30 GP 10th BAKER BLOCK (#10, 4-1) debuts for a trainer who can have then ready to roll first time, has more than one decent work, and is a full-brother to Appointed, a two-time winner on Tapeta who won his debut going 7 1/2 furlongs on turf at Gulfstream Park West. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:03 LS 2nd ROLLIN CHROME (#5, 10-1) hooked a standout winner last out in Smash Ticket. This one was cutting back from a mile to five and a half panels and could be closer to the pace here, in her second straight sprint start. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

10:23 LS 7th V. I. P. WHO (#6, 9-2) is a six-time winner who is well-versed at the mile and a sixteenth trip. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:20 WBS (Harness) 2nd DAISY DAY (#8, 4-1), a $24,000 Lexington buy, is a 1/2-sister to double OSS Gold winner Dabra Day and she looks ready for this career debut based on her winning June 10th qualifier. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:25 MED (Harness) 7th IDEAL STAR N (#10, 3-1) has simply been too fast for the competition in his last two starts and if he can come close to those miles again he’ll overcome post 10 without issue. – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:40 YR (Harness) 6th GOTHIC ROCK (#1, 4-1) was uninvolved most of the way last week in his local return but he finished crisply to be second best. From the improved post he projects as a top contender. – Matt Rose | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
