DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, June 16, 2023

DRF Staff|Jun 15, 2023
Monmouth turf racing
Bill Denver/Equi-Photo First post for Monmouth racing is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET on Friday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.

1:10 WO 1st HALO STYLE (#7, 10-1) is a DRF Bet Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:28 LRL 3rd CAPTAIN WOODROW (#6, 4-1) ran splendidly in his debut at PIM May 26, stalking the pace before running on well to be a sharp 2nd. With that under his belt and a couple works since he looks ready to grab his diploma. His 2 sibs are both winners including Isabella's Glory (15-1-2-4, $82K). -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:57 LRL 4th Tough race. REMUDA (#2, 12-1) showed ample talent last year and into this fall/winter including a turf win at TAM 14 months ago. The pattern coming into this is a bit worrisome (big win on TAM dirt, 3 months off, dull run on KEE dirt, another 2 months off) but there's no drop which encourages and he's proven on turf. -Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:00 MTH 1st BUSTINUPISHARDTODO (#3, 6-1) adds blinkers and that's been a favorable angle for the barn of late, and it's especially noteworthy given the relative lack of speed in this field; he was off the board in his grass debut last time but that was against better, and he earned a competitive figure in defeat. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:09 BEL 3rd MOSIENKO (#1, 6-1) made a solid run in the Grade 3 Vagrancy last time but that kind of competition is just too tough for her and she had to settle for fourth; probably doesn't want longer distances but she got the job done two back going a mile while taking a step forward from the February return she appeared to need; went this distance twice during her strong 5yo campaign last year and ran well both times, including that top figure win at Saratoga. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:49 WO 4th HALLIE'S HERO (#6, 6-1) got away slowly before a prominent third-place finish in his May 6 season opener at this level. The veteran has worked a half-mile in the interim and should be tough off the claim with that tightener under his girth. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:56 MTH 3rd UTOPIA ROSE (#2, 10-1) was no match for BINGO'S GIRL in their respective debuts but the former showed some late interest after a slow start; should appreciate today's added distance. dam won a couple of races and produced five winners. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:09 BEL 5th MISE EN SCENE (#2, 4-1) shaped with potential early on but has found Group/Grade 1 competition (which she has faced in five of eight starts since beginning with two sharp wins) to be a bit too tough; good effort off the layoff last time when missing the break and then making a strong late run for second over this distance. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:50 GP 7th Don't often take maidens stepping into winner's ranks but FORT ATTITUDE (#9, 10-1) nicely spotted for this tag and a closer in a field featuring plenty of pace. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:00 SA 1st ICE QUEEN (#6, 6-1) stretches to her preferred two-turn distance following an impossible trip finishing seventh in a similar N3L starter allowance turf sprint. She was blocked from the five-sixteenths to deep stretch. It was an inconclusive debacle. Her two-turn turf races late last year and early this year are fast enough for this bunch, she has enough route speed to avoid a similar bad trip. Tab on the stretch-out. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:21 GP 8th BART'S DREAM (#4, 6-1) exits best yet when returning to Tapeta off extended vacation and likely to catch very honest pace scenario if this field holds together. Expecting another forward move with that last one under his belt. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:29 WO 7th SILENT TRIBUTE (#9, 6-1) is trying the turf for the first time off a subpar performance in her second start off the shelf. The daughter of superb turf sire Silent Name is out of a G3 winner on the old Polytrack here who ran second in the Wonder Where Stakes on the grass. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:48 MTH 7th CATATUMBO (#4, 9-2) impressed in defeat in that last one, at Gulfstream, as he closed with interest to get the show despite a relative lack of pace in that field, making up ground late; eligible to run them all down on the wire given a little more help from the speeds. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:24 GP 10th CALL ME SPICY (#5, 9-2) caught a good one when running big one debuting over the synthetic last summer at Presque Isle, the winner of that race from the barn of super debut trainer Larry Rivelli and now a 3 time state bred SW in Ohio. Appears to be training in encouraging fashion for local bow. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:31 WO 9th TAYBO (#9, 6-1) is coming off a wide sixth in his season opener on the Tapeta in his second career outing. The son of below-average grass sire Giant Gizmo is out of a mare who dropped three winners from four turf starters. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:04 SA 7th STRANGE ADDICTION (#7, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Brad Free). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
