DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, June 14, 2024

DRF Staff|Jun 14, 2024
Jais's Solitude (purple silks) was disqualified to sixth in the Bald Eagle Derby at Laurel Park
Jim Duley/Maryland Jockey Club First post for Laurel racing is scheduled for 12:25 p.m. ET on Friday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

2:35 BAQ 4th MUAZARAH (#1, 10-1) dropped to get the maiden win over a wet track in March and was claimed; thought he ran an underrated race at this level for the new connections when going with speed and carrying on to contest a good pace before weakening late, and he has been in too tough in both starts since; drops back down. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:54 WO 4th PORT RENFREW (#8, 6-1) finished fourth in both of her starts last year, in tougher Tapeta tilts that were far apart. The daughter of 11% turf sire Violence is out of a turf winner who's produced two grass winners and has worked decently for a hot layoff trainer. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:07 BAQ 5th NOBLE HUNTSMAN (#8, 20-1) still hasn't won a race since scoring on debut at Saratoga as a 2yo back in 2022, though he has run several races along the way that would make him tough in here; not sure what the plan was when finally dropped in class for that last one, but he was never given a chance to be competitive in that spot; blinkers on and a rider change looking for a wake-up call at a price. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:25 LRL 7th Perhaps APROPOS (#5 5-1) has found her niche sprinting on the turf. Raced outside at the back at Pimlico, seemed uncomfortable racing over tire tracks on the backstretch, swung very wide into the lane, then came with a good run to miss by less than a length. She doesn't have much early speed, but should get a fair pace to attack, and the long stretch here gives her time to work out a trip. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:55 LRL 8th VANCE SCHOLARS (#4, 8-1) has been knocking on the door in recent starts, and exits a good try around two turns at Pimlico. Stalked in between horses, worked his way out to race three wide in midpack behind a solid pace, eased to the far outside into the stretch, then finished nicely for second behind an odds-on winner that saved more ground on the second turn. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:25 LRL 9th DYNA MAST (#2, 12-1) didn't have the most comfortable trip in first start following 227-day layoff. Bounced around in between on the first turn while three wide/four path, raced in between on the backstretch, made an outside bid on the second bend, then finished with some belated interest. Scored in second back after 216-day break in 2023 and should kick on late at this longer distance. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:59 WO 8th SIGNONTHDOTTEDLINE (#1, 12-1) has worked well on more than one occasion for a low-percentage first-out trainer who's been heating up at the meet. The son of excellent speed/debut sire Signature Red is the first foal from a modest sprinter. -Ron Gierkink | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:13 BAQ 9th LU'S REDEMPTION (#6, 8-1) was still a bit green and did not get an aggressive ride when finally getting a turf start to go in her final starts as a 2yo; drew an outside post but improved when just missing second in her first start off the layoff last time; forward to go for an underrated trainer. -Mike Beer

6:07 SA 5th NESSO'S LASTHARRAH (#7, 5-1) can lead gate to wire in this N3L starter turf sprint, run over the same course/distance as his highly rated maiden win in January. 'HARRAH meets older for the first time, therefore gets an eight-pound break over his older rivals. He can win if he avoids a head-and-head duel with pace rival LEMON SUSHI who is drawn three stalls to his inside. -Brad Free
