With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:29 GP 2nd MIGHTY THOMAS (#5, 12-1) a fresh face to a weak looking category for barn in midst of banner meet with its babies. -Mike Welsch 1:50 BEL 2nd DUNCASTLE (#9, 7-2) went 0-5 over Belmont turf last year, but he ran well in some of those races while often going longer than he prefers; returns to NY making his second start off the layoff after winning three turf sprints at Fair Grounds over the winter. -Mike Beer 1:58 GP 5th SWANEE BEACH (#6, 9-2) showed some speed, backed up steadily in turf bow now returns to main, should be quick enough to get loose, lead these a merry chase with pair of longer races under her belt. -Mike Welsch 2:02 WO 3rd GRATEFUL PRAISE (#5, 6-1) crushed maidens two back on the dirt at Turf Paradise before ending up second in a first-level optional claimer there. She’s worked four times on the Tapeta leading up this $25K NW2 tilt, and should be prominent with Civaci retaining the mount for perennial leading Hastings trainer Hall. -Ron Gierkink :: Bet the races online with DRF Bets. New members get $250 bonus 2:47 LRL 5th DANCING TIZ WAY (#2, 10-1) is a $4,000 yearling and half-sister to stakes-winning dirt sprinter Arthur’s Hope (won first three starts, 100 Beyer in the Say Florida Sandy Stakes at Aqueduct). Dam a winning half-sister to a multiple stakes-placed performer while the second dam was multiple stakes-placed herself. Dilodovico barn scored with debut winner Spanxamillon for a tag back on November 22 and the outfit went 3 for 11 (27%, $3.54 ROI) last week. Perhaps the gate work on June 14 was a company drill with uncoupled stablemate SUZYSELLSSEASHELLS, an Oxbow filly that broke slow in her debut on February 29, then really picked up the pace late in the game after the race had already been decided. -Dan Illman 3:10 WO 5th CRAWL FROM THE BAR (#2, 20-1) chased home the likes of Constantino, Gray’s Fable and Souper Fly Over in his last three appearances in competition. He’s switching from turf to the Tapeta for the big drop to $10K, and appears to have found a field that he can handle. -Ron Gierkink 3:41 WO 6th VIRGIL CAINE (#3, 10-1) had a troubled break before making up some ground to end up ninth of 14 at first asking in an OS/$40K sprint. The son of Giant Gizmo is out of a router who’s produced three route winners, and could wake up going 1 1/16 miles here vs. $25K maidens. -Ron Gierkink :: Get the DRF GamePlan Playbook each day with a DRF+ Pro subscription. Didn’t do much at long odds in career debut on the weeds, but both sire (won Grade 3 Bold Ruler - 104 Beyer) and dam (seven-furlong maiden winner on dirt here in 2012) preferred the main track. Taking a stab at what figures to be a big price. -Dan Illman 5:30 MTH 2nd PORT SALERNO (#3, 5-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). 6:08 BEL 10th WALL EYE (#1, 15-1) made one start as a 2yo at Saratoga and didn’t run poorly at all in that race, which he appeared to need; tried to go long off the layoff and checked early before tiring in the stretch and being wrapped up by his rider; like him cutting back and staying at this level for his second start off the bench. -Mike Beer 6:30 MTH 4th LOLANITA (#8, 7-2) exits an open claimer at Tampa, and this move into a race restricted to non-winners of four represents a sizable drop in class; he has the speed to get into the game immediately, and in a race that’s a little light on pace that’s a tactical edge. -Kenny Peck 9:35 DMR 10th CASTLE GATE (#10, 7-2) gave way readily last time out but that came vs. tougher and on turf, which apparently isn’t his forte. He drops, returns to dirt (2 for 2 including a win here) and worked strongly July 2. – Michael Hammersly :: Want to get your Past Performances for free? Click to learn more.
