Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:10 GP 1st THE KHOZAN ONE (#1, 6-1) strictly a pace play in opener. Has been on the fringes a few times sprinting with a tad better. Chased wire to wire winner Midnight Onyx start to finish in a good try three back. Lures Saez, drawn inside, should be long gone over what has been a speed favoring course. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race  12:32 TAM 1st AUBURN (#5, 8-1) was off the board in that last one but that was against males, and she really didn't run all that badly, and two back she weakened only late after engaging in a three-way duel; certainly has room to take a step forward given a better trip, as this is essentially a class drop. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race  12:56 LRL 2nd DYNAMITE DUKE (#1, 5-1) wheels back on short notice after facile maiden win going a one-turn mile. Set a pressured pace in between, dropped inside and took mild heat from 8-1 runner-up See Out, drifted off the rail, then stayed to his task despite the rider losing the crop. Might have to rate off the pace this time around cutting back in distance for barn that is 4 for the last 18 (22%, $8.43 ROI) moving from route to sprint on dirt. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race 1:30 OP 1st AMERICAN TATTOO (#6, 6-1) has some company lines of interest, among his rivals in the past Proxy, Bal Harbour, Shared Sense and Fort Peck. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race 2:33 TAM 5th AMBUSHED (#9, 8-1) drops in price for his second start off the layoff, and though he was no threat in that bow he had some traffic trouble on the turn and was forced to steady at a crucial time; figures to improve off that line with a clean trip, as this is his first start for a tag. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race 2:47 AQU 5th BETTING ON A STONE (#6, 6-1) debuted going a mile despite being by speed sire Bustin Stones and out of a dam who won her debut by open lengths sprinting with a 68 Beyer; caught a wet track that day and chased toward the inside early before falling back out of contention; can build on that as she cuts back to sprint for an excellent second-out trainer. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race  2:57 OP 4th SMOKIN BOOTS (#2, 8-1) is proven class as a stakes winner, with the victory coming at this distance in the Arapahoe Park Derby. He now returns to the Arkansas-bred ranks and Oaklawn, where he is a winner, too. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race 3:36 GP 8th DEMOGORGON (#1, 6-1) drops to weakest spot yet and should be able to control this race from the outset. May not look back this time. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race 3:47 AQU 7th BE BETTER (#6, 7-2) is hard to trust in this spot after finishing last and combined 114 lengths in arrears in his last two dirt starts - though they were both in stakes races; shaped with potential last summer when back from the layoff and he is not in for the price here; one more chance with blinkers going on. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race  3:52 LRL 8th BLOWTHRUYELOWLITES (#4, 6-1) displayed versatility by utilizing rallying tactics to down $40,000 sellers. Settled behind the solid pace set by runner-up stablemate Bosserati, dropped inside, attempted to ease out for running room, couldn't find a seam, then altered back to the rail to commence his winning bid. The third-finisher returned to run third for $40,000 with a 57 Beyer. Can adapt to any pace scenario for barn that is 5 for the last 7 (71%, $3.89 ROI) with last-out winners adding Lasix. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race  4:03 TAM 8th ACACIAHELPME (#8, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race 4:06 GP 9th BOLDNESS (#9, 6-1) has chased UNCORK THE BOTTLE and SEA TRIDENT home on a few occasions but in new hands since those outings and exiting a couple of sharp works prepping for return. Uncork the Bottle has won 3 of last 4 in this same category. Hard to ignore. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race 4:16  AQU 8th EE YAH (#8, 9-2) is just about out of chances but he is finally getting the class relief her needs here and his speed makes him dangerous in this kind of spot; didn't run well in that last one while seeing his figure decline again but the wet track is a viable excuse. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race 4:21 LRL 9th Looking for a price in the finale, and THRUSTER (#7, 6-1) might be ready for a step forward in second start following 208-day layoff. Bumped at the start in first race back, he saved ground at the rear of the field, altered course to the outside in the stretch, then gave an even finish without threatening the top ones. Trainer-jockey combination went 3 for 11 (21%, $3.47 ROI) between 11/20 and 1/14. There should be enough hitting up front to adequately setup his late bid. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race  4:40 TAM 9th ALOGON (#4, 9-2) is undefeated in two starts on the grass and he was sharp in those victories, winning with relative ease each time after setting the pace from the start; quick enough to make the lead in this finale, and if he is able to get clear in the early stages he'll be tough to reel in. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race 4:53 OP 8th UNIFYING (#9, 6-1) returns to the overnight ranks after representing herself quite well last out in the Year's End Stakes at Oaklawn. It was her first start against winners and her first race at two turns She draws the widest gate here, but has the speed to secure position into the first turn. -Mar Rampellini | Get PPs for this race  5:18 GG 3rd SIERRA MELODY (#2, 6-1) returns to a conditional $6,250 claimer at five furlongs after a sixth-place finish at 44-1 in a conditional $20,000 claimer on Dec. 10. A two-time winner in 2022, Sierra Melody may inherit a favorable trip if runners such as EXCESSIVE CAT and DARKSABER engage in a likely speed duel. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race 6:05 SA 6th TWENTYSEVENTROUTS (#5, 4-1) drops to the lowest class level for winners ($16k claiming, N2L) for her first start in two months. The five-start 6yo mare typically runs her best race fresh, she has won over the Santa Anita surface (March 2021). First time at the bottom, tepid choice. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race 6:51 GG 6th  RHONDA'S COOKIN (#6, 6-1) broke from the rail in an $8,000 claimer for maidens on Dec. 26, and closed from last in a field of 10 to finish fourth by 5 1-4 lengths. She will need a better break to beat this field, but starts from post 6 which should help her off-the-pace style. She only missed third by a neck in her debut. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race 7:07 SA 8th Front-runners LET'S REJOYCE (#8, 6-1) (8 wins) and SUNRISE JOURNEY (13 wins) could get in each other's way and set up this Cal-bred allowance sprint for a closer. Nonetheless, LET'S REJOYCE gets the call. He ran well last out in a $25k claiming starter that was tougher than this field; he dueled to deep stretch and finished fourth. If he can somehow avoid a duel with the pace rival to his outside, he can upset this Cal-bred N1X with an up-front trip. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race
