DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, January 14, 2022

DRF Staff|Jan 13, 2022
Aqueduct race start 2021
Barbara D. Livingston First post for Aqueduct racing is scheduled for 12:50 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:20 AQU 1st LONDON GOLD (#1, 15-1) lacked speed and raced greenly over a muddy track in her September debut vs. MSW rivals; well-bred filly takes the drop after getting some time out of that race and faces a nondescript field with a chance to improve. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:48 AQU 4th SHADOLAMO's (#4, 12-1) three wins have all come at Finger Lakes, including a narrow score going longer two back; light on figures but finally racing at the right level and like her cutting back for this off the short layoff. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:48 AQU 6th MY MAN MATTY (#8, 8-1) a firster by the underrated sire Kantharos (wins with 14% of his debut runners and 17% of his dirt sprinters), from the female family of stakes winners Sjyway and Ava K; first foal to race from this dam is Cupid's Heart, who was an impressive debut winner last October at Belmont, also for Levine. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:05 TUP 2nd SLEW SOUTH (#8, 6-1) is just better on the grass something she gets back to today. We like that her new barn is 1 for 3 on the green and that this mare has a local work. A good field means a good price. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:05 GP 6th SCENIC VIEW (#6, 4-1) ran off screen on graduation day making two turn bow at Churchill Downs and with some experience on synthetic surface. Kin to four time turf winner Champagne Horizon. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:59 TUP 4th MARDEN (#4, 8-1) is a hard trier that can fire fresh. Those starter foes at Mountaineer are better than you may think. Low percentage jock helps the price. There is little pace in this race so this gelling should be forwardly placed. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:11 GP 8th DAY'S HUMOR (#6, 6-1) no match for RED WIND last time after failing to show her best early foot but perhaps able to reverse that decision if getting early jump on main rival the second time around. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:19 OP 7th ICE ORCHID (#10, 6-1) exits a quick maiden special weight and the time of the race was a tad quicker than males ran 20 minutes later in the $150K Advent Stakes. This one makes the move to two turns and gets good pedigree support for the task. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:20 AQU 9th ROCK LOBSTER (#3, 10-1) a firster by Paynter and a half to Twelve Volt Man, a debut winner who is currently 4 for 6 on dirt in his career; appears to be training right along for Rudy, who is more than capable with a first-time starter. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:13 OP 9th PRINCESS LEA (#7, 8-1) ran a credible race last out in her first start against winners and is now back at the distance of her maiden win. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:30 TUP 7th LOVELY LINDA (#6, 6-1) just ran better and did so first out for Van Winkle who often takes his time with new horses. Now this mare goes third off the layoff all while cutting back a half furlong to what might be her favorite distance. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:00 MED (Harness) 3rd BOUJEE GIRL (#5, 6-1) I wasn’t at all surprised to see Gingras choose off (5) BOUJEE GIRL for #8 as it is a better long-term decision. That said, Boujee Girl finished with good late life in her first start in five weeks and I’m expecting a much more aggressive effort this week, plus a better price due to Gingras’ decision. – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:55 YR (Harness) 4th FANATIC (#2, 3-1) has been overachieving recently with a series of good efforts, all at nice prices. He also raced just six days ago which can give him an edge. – Matt Rose | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:20 WBS (Harness) 5th NEWSDAY (#3, 5-2) lacked room two starts back and she took heavy support last week because of that and the class drop. She couldn’t hold off better and now she drops again. She should be tough in here. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
