DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, January 10, 2025

DRF Staff|Jan 10, 2025
Tampa Bay Downs
Tom Keyser First post for Tampa Bay Downs racing is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. ET on Friday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:52 GP 2nd SENOR MARCELO (#7, 4-1) has pressed contesting pace, succumbed final furlong stretching to 6 1/2 on main now turns back in distance and tries grass for the first time. By decent turf sire City of Light, should sit a nice trip stalking the speedy Precisely. – Mike Welsch

1:10 AQU 2nd WELL SUITED (#7, 5-1) might not be able to run at all but he was stuck wide throughout while trying to deal with a cutback in distance when dropped in class last time; one more chance stretching out off the claim. – Mike Beer

1:17 TAM 3rd I'MWISHINGONASTAR (#4, 5-1) faded despite a favorable race flow set up in her latest but she should be able to shake loose against this short field, which is otherwise light on early zip; dangerous if able to get clear with relative ease. – Kenny Peck

1:40 AQU 3rd GRIDLOCK (#6, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (#6, 5-1) (Mike Beer).

1:50 TAM 4th SMEAUXKINITUP (#10, 6-1) is kin to Arkansas-bred multiple stakes winner Man in the Can, and while that one was best routing he did win sprinting, and he won his own career debut; this gelding sports a couple of works that suggest he has some speed and he meets an apparently average field for the class level. – Kenny Peck

3:18 TAM 7th EL DE TOCHO (#7, 20-1) gets blinkers and Lasix and switches to a new barn, and all of those angles are positive ones for trainer Yoni Orantes; he tries turf for the first time, and while that's not a particularly strong move for Orantes this colt's dam, Adopted Family, posted both of her two career wins on the green. – Kenny Peck

4:05 GP 8th DENVER'S ALLEY (#2, 8-1) has done most of his damage on Tapeta but comes off a huge effort when contesting pace throughout before fading a bit latter stages in a race from which three of the top five finishers won next out. Must avoid early tussle with the very speed, rail drawn Stormy Mitole. – Mike Welsch

4:37 GP 9th CHEESE (#8, 15-1) continues to improve from Beyer standpoint, had maiden win flattered when runner-up Designer Bag beat same kind rather easily in her next start. – Mike Welsch
