DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, February 24, 2023

DRF Staff|Feb 23, 2023
Aqueduct scenic
Jim Sewastynowicz First post for Aqueduct racing is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. ET on Friday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:10 GP 1st AMOR SALVAJE (#3, 10-1) compromised by tough post last time while not badly beaten and an improved sort since switching to grass. Catches a field loaded with pace. Might be along at square price. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:38 GP 4th SILVER MAGNATIZED (#9, 8-1) training well for local bow and lures Irad for the occasion. Should catch enough pace to run down at her best. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:57 LRL 4th DULCE KIARA (#1, 9-2) prompted the pacesetting winner from the outside, went after that one in earnest on the turn, but just couldn't forge by in the stretch. Wheels back on short notice off the claim for barn that is 2 for the last 7 (29%, $13.26 ROI) returning in a week or less. Expect speed from the rail as she stretches out in distance. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:08 GP 5th HE'S IN CHARGE (#5, 8-1) will hopefully get back to a fast main track for first time in a while and arguably too classy for these at his best. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:16 TAM 6th MAPACHE G (#3, 9-2) was behind several of these runners in that last try but he didn't get all that much pace help in that race, which featured a controlled pace, and that was the case in his prior few efforts as well; he's a stone closer but he should get a better pace scenario in this rematch, and he can turn the tables if he gets some help up front. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:55 AQU 6th NINETEEN OYSTERS (#5, 8-1) faces a few experienced rivals here but is likely to offer value and might have something to offer right away. Colt by excellent new sire Bolt d'Oro looked good breezing 10.1 before going to Gold Square for $175k last May and he appears to be training forwardly up to this with a pair of recent bullets from the gate showing. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:07 OP 6th SWEET HOLINESS (#11, 9-2) has been a consistent sort as a rule and she owns the field's best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:15 GG 1st MANY MARKETS (#6, 5-1) was the dominant winner of an $8,000 claimer for maidens at six furlongs on Feb. 11 in her debut, closing from sixth to win by 3 3-4 lengths. This is a logical progression to a $6,250 claimer for non-winners of two at a mile, and a race without a deep field. Many Markets figures to race from a tracking position for jockey Alejandro Gomez from an outside post of six. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:20 TAM 8th SPANISH DELIGHT (#4, 5-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:38 OP 7th WEST SIDE GIRL (#3, 8-1) is a five-time winner facing some less-experienced rivals. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:50 TAM 9th HARD ATTACK (#7, 5-2) has 12 career wins and he's been consistent of late in terms of Beyers, which are among the best in the field; he'll be looking to make the last run but there is plenty of speed to his inside and out to help set him up. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:57 AQU 8th PHAROAH'S HEART (#6, 8-1) shaped with early potential while earning 90+ Beyers in her first three starts and then trying a Grade 2 to no avail; struggled to put races together last year, though she might not have regressed much while enduring tough trips in all three starts out of town; don't mind her stretching out for this after racing wide and gaining third in a pace-dominated race last time off the long layoff. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:10 OP 8th TEN GAUGE (#8, 5-1) is another leading contender on the card for the trainer-jockey team of Asmussen and Asmussen. This one was a good third at this distance last time out and the career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 87 that he earned is the best last-race number in this spot. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
