DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, February 17, 2023

DRF Staff|Feb 16, 2023
Aqueduct scenic
Jim Sewastynowicz First post for Aqueduct racing is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. ET on Friday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:20 AQU 1st THAT'S MY BUSINESS (#5, 8-1) landed in a very fast race when dropped to this level last time (76 Beyer for the winner) and could only chase that front-running winner to no avail after getting away last from the gate; also faced tough for the level two back when dropped for the first time; still lightly raced and can improve with a better start this time. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

1:38 GP 4th RESTORED ORDER (#7, 12-1) always best when loose on the lead as he figures to be if rider aggressive from outset. Tossing last when over-matched and getting brutal trip to boot. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

2:15 TAM 4th BYZANTINE EMPIRE (#3, 20-1) cuts back in distance but may be quick enough to stay close from the start in this elongated sprint; hoping she can rate off the speeds and make one run, as there is established pace to her outside. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race

2:20 AQU 3rd SQUID GAMER (#6, 10-1) a newcomer by excellent first-out sire Violence and a half-brother to the underrated Evaluator, who was a debut winner on turf and won the Sleepy Hollow in his first dirt start; appears to be training well up to this and showed some speed going a half-mile at the end of January. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

2:28 LRL 5th SLINGSHOT BOY (#4, 6-1) gets Lasix for the first time since good effort over sloppy going at Delaware. Tracked a solid pace four wide after breaking from the far outside in that two-turn heat, was hard-ridden on the final bend, dropped inside, then finished evenly behind the two chalks. Finished ahead of three of these when beaten by Stardust Ziggy (next-out winner for $20,000 with 53 Beyer, then was second for that tag with a 54) in most recent outing. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race

2:32 OP 3rd TOUCH CODE (#6, 6-1) might be tough to contain were he to run back to the Beyer Speed Figure of 81 that he put up two starts back at Oaklawn. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race

2:38 GP 6th FREDO (#3, 5-1) comes off best yet when back around two turns for first time in a while, faltering late behind even money Howe Street and Tiz Eternal who Beyered 87 and 86 respectively. Gets Tyler G. aboard today. May be sitting on best yet and should offer some value in this spot. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

2:46 TAM 5th WICKLOW GAL (#8, 15-1) was off the board in her grass debut but she was well off the controlled pace there, with the winner dictating the tempo and wiring the field after establishing a clear lead; thinking she has room to improve today given a better race flow, and she figures to be a square price. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race

2:59 LRL 6th ZIPPY DO DA DAY (#9, 12-1) breezed a furlong in 10 4/5 prior to the most recent auction, and is a daughter of prolific (19%) debut sire Violence. She's the first foal from a debut-winning half-sister to stakes-winning dirt router Don Dulce (100 wet-dirt Beyer top), stakes-winning dirt sprinter Sweet Relish (90 Beyer), Grade 3-placed turf router Wherethewestbegins and stakes-placed dirt miler Secret Passage (debut winner; 97 wet-dirt Beyer top). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race

3:07 GP 7th AWESOME ANNMARIE (#3, 5-1) the victim of a brutal trip while beaten only two lengths last time, walking out of gate far behind field and losing considerable ground into stretch. In dangerous hands off the claim while returning with same kind today. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

3:36 GP 8th Stable mates DERZKII (#3, 15-1) and SELFMADE compliment one another nicely, the former perhaps the one to catch after chasing rapid pace in a race which totally collapsed to winner in his local bow. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race

3:55 AQU 6th LISTENTOYOURHEART (#6, 10-1) was making his first start since August when chasing and weakening a bit late last time going seven; struggled to stay in training after winning a stake as a 2yo but he ran well in his limited starts, including an easy win off the layoff last May; eligible to take a step forward in his second start back and will be a price. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

4:20 TAM 8th GOLOVKIN (#6, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race

4:38 OP 7th QUICK TO BLAME (#9, 5-1) draws a bit of an improved post over his last start, when he was saddled with the 11-hole going two turns. He might be sitting on a peak race here, in his third out since September. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race

4:50 TAM 9th CAIRO WINNER (#6, 8-1) wasn't helped by the slow splits up front in that last one and she failed to threaten but she adds blinkers today and should be expected to be closer to the pace today, as she was in the first two starts of her career; may be overlooked some in the wagering but she has license to take a step forward here. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race

4:57 AQU 8th WINE GODDESS (#3, 6-1) didn't run poorly in her debut when rained off to the main track, then made a after heavily-favored Laughter following a troubled start when back on dirt off the layoff in December; hasn't come close in three starts since then but might appreciate cutting back in distance for this. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

6:57 GG 7th GETTIN SIDEWAYS (#2, 8-1) is winless in 13 starts since May 2021, but has been second twice and third once in that span, including a half-length loss in a race at this level on Jan. 27. Getting Sideways is not the only filly or mare in this $25,000 claimer at a mile with cloudy form. All of the seven are winless in at least their last three starts. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race
