Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:00 GP 1st Not sure how fast they were going, but SURPRISE ARRIVAL (#6, 9-2) showed more speed in her latest, and one of the horses that put pressure on her won the race and repeated when she faced winners in her next start. SURPSRISE ARRIVAL might be able to get away on her own, but seems capable of stalking if other speeds show up. – Randy Goulding
2:07 WO 3rd ANN OF CLEVES (#2, 12-1) is going long for the first time off an improved run with the pedigree for the task at hand. Her dam dropped six route winners, including stakes winners Academic, Secret Wish and Awesome Fire. – Ron Gierkink
2:54 SAR 4th MISCHIEF REIGNS (#3, 12-1) debuting in a nondescript field with enough pedigree to be successful right away; sire is versatile and connects with 13% of his first time starters on turf, and this filly is a half to four-time turf winner, Red Right Hand. – Mike Beer

3:06 GP 7th ARRIVEDERLA (#5, 5-1) took the plunge, and he sure looked good winning an $8K claimer June 28. He was given a career-best 78 Beyer Speed Figure, and it is easy to imagine him improving after being haltered by Barboza, who has strong numbers with claimed horses running back the first time. – Randy Goulding
4:04 SAR 6th TAPPINGINTOSUCCESS (#3, 15-1) is from a Strong Line Oak female family and, while the more notable names made their mark on dirt, this dam was versatile, and she has dropped turf stakes winner, He’s Bankable; Trombetta is capable with first time starters and is rarely overbet. – Mike Beer

4:57 WO 8th DESERT POEM (#1, 5-1) captured first-level allowance going 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf last September. That fourth-place finish in her $40K comeback should set her up nicely for this 25K event, in which she has some speed to chase. – Ron Gierkink
5:25 MTH 2nd JERSEY FRESH (#6, 9-2) stretches out in his second start off the layoff, and while he has done some of his best work in sprints- his lone career win came in a six-furlong race- his route Beyers give him a solid shot against this group, including the 69 he posted over this track last year; will be looking to come from off the pace, but should get at least an honest, early tempo. – Kenny Peck
6:08 DMR 3rd FULL DRAW (#5, 6-1) beat only two horses in his debut, but the effort was better than it looks. With a better trip, he can win second time out. He was off slowly in his debut, raced greenly, uncorked an extremely wide move on the turn and wider yet into the lane, then went evenly late. He actually galloped out very well past the wire. Now, he adds blinkers, switches to Flavien Prat, and with a race under his belt should improve enough to handle these from off the pace. – Brad Free

6:18 SAR 10th MORALITY CLAUSE (#7, 15-1) went seven off the layoff and tired after showing speed; like this shorter distance for her, and she is getting the right drop in class after running pretty well in the first three sprints of her career, while not getting great trips in any of those races. – Mike Beer
6:20 MTH 4th INFINITY SKY (#4, 7-2) faded despite a loose lead in her first start off the layoff two back, and she gave way late last time, despite landing in a race that wasn’t loaded with speed. But, she improved in that last start in terms of Beyers, and she may be in line for another improved effort today in her third start back; could be the controlling speed in this claimer, which is a little light on pace. – Kenny peck
7:09 DMR 5th Closers have won more than their share of turf sprints this summer, including all four with the rails at this 12-foot setting. The course profile and abundance of speed plays to ITALIANO (#1, 5-1). The honest gelding won on this course and class level ($40K claiming) last summer; his recent form is solid and he figures for a ground-saving trip in midpack. He can sit, wait and blast home. – Brad Free
