DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, April 23, 2021

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:00 BEL 1st KAVOD (#1, 8-1) one of three with prior experience at Keeneland in this field (the other two are fillies) and he may have run in the stronger race down there with the heavilybacked Social Mandate prevailing and third-place finisher Baytown Frosty already coming back to win; may have more speed in his second start as he breaks from the rail. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:40 GP 2nd ALEJANDRO’S TEAM (#3, 5-1) plunged to bottom to beat N2L claimers in his last, a couple of his victims coming back to win their next starts. Catches a field loaded with pace. Might just return quick dividends off the claim despite big hike in company. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:12 KEE 3rd Don’t care what the pedigree numbers read here - a grandson of Street Boss out of a Wildcat Heir mare is a horse bred for a turf sprint, and WILD FOR WYCLIFF (#5, 5-1) gets his grass chance today after contesting three of the stronger maiden sprints of the Fair Grounds season. The half-furlong cut back in distance helps this horse, too. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:24 TAM 5th HASTY LADY (#2, 6-1) makes her seasonal debut but she lands in a seemingly favorable spot, as there isn’t a great deal of speed in this field and she has some early zip, and an inside post; she’s proven at this distance and track and she seems to have only Patient Digna to deal with in the opening stages. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:40 PIM 5th BOSS LIFE (#5, 6-1) broke sharp, then settled in behind the pace on the outside before looming four-wide turning into the straight. He raced the entirety of the stretch without the stick as the jock dropped the whip turning into the lane, but still finished with some interest. The fifth-horse from that race returned to place second at this level with a 53 Beyer. Seems to be in good form and can run on late at a price for lowprofile connections. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:54 TAM 6th ELUSIVE RYDER (#1, 6-1) failed to threaten in her last two starts but the Beyers she posted in those losses stand out here as she meets lesser; she’ll be looking to come from off the pace, and the rail draw is a bit of a concern, as she has found traffic trouble in the past, but with clear sailing she should be perfectly positioned to make the last run. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:02 BEL 5th TRIPLE DIGIT (#4, 5-1) posted his lone win to date around two turns in slow time, but she has run two faster races since then sprinting, including that last one when rated back to last early behind a modest pace; drops. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:12 PIM 6th CASTILLEJA (#1, 5-1) was held up behind a slow pace while racing in a tight spot in between horses on the turn, then split rivals with a willing finish in the stretch. The sixth-place runner from that heat returned to place second in a $16,000 “beaten” claimer at Parx with a 63 Beyer. Gets out another half-furlong and should come running late, but will need a bit of pace help up top. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:23 TAM 7th A COTSWOLD VILLAGE (#7, 9-2) is the first starter out of the dam, who was 1-for25, but while she lacks pedigree appeal she does have decent works, she meets a seemingly average field and trainer Antonio Machado does well enough with firsters, especially in maiden claimers; board tells more. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:35 LS 1st CLAY’S MOON STONE (#2, 9-2) did not get beat by much by Good Fight the only time she tried turf and it wasn’t the cleanest of trips. Good Fight also won her next two. The shape of this race could work for her and she might be able to get up in time at what could be a decent price. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:03 LS 2nd LADY AVE (#8, 6-1) is taking big step up in price but she likes the local surface and makes her first start for a trainer who has solid numbers with newly claimed horses - 19% the past five years. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:16 PIM 8th OXBOW CREEK (#7, 6-1) is out of a dam that won two stakes at seven furlongs around two turns at Charles Town. That dam is also a half-sister to stakes-winning turf router Wait It Out. It’s possible this filly may want a bit more ground as a daughter of Preakness winner Oxbow, but she shows some quick works over the surface for solid barn. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:38 OP 6th COROT (#7, 6-1) appears to have a few variables working in his favor. He draws outside one start after breaking from the rail, and his last win came from a wide gate. COROT also moves back to six furlongs, which is the distance over which he registered his most recent win. This will mark his third out since December. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:57 KEE 8th Trainer Anna Meah has no record of winning with first-time starters but SAMS TIME’s (#7, 8-1) work pattern - from that first swift 3f drill at the Tbred Trainer Center through fast KEE breezes, hints he can run. There’s plenty of eye-catching work times in this race but not from barns that regularly win with first-timers, and the couple that have raced have only been all right. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:09 OP 7th RAGGEDY ANNIE (#3, 5-2) is appealing as a three-time winner facing some lessexperienced rivals. She also won in good time last out at Oaklawn. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:09 SA 3rd ANOTHER EDDIE (#5, 4-1) faces Cal-bred winners after a decisive maiden sprint win on this course. She pressed the pace, kicked clear by two, the win was validated when runner-up Big Clare returned to win a maiden route. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:27 LS 5th OUTERBANKS (#4, 15-1) sure looked good winning his debut going 5 furlongs and his breeding suggests he could thrive going a middle distance. Not sure what Silva paid for the son of Empire Maker, but someone liked him enough to shell out $700K for him as a yearling. He could have plenty of upside and most of the ones he’s facing here have been stuck at this level for a while. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:47 SA 8th DELTA WIND (#3, 4-1) can make amends for a disappointing debut, sixth as the favorite. She had excuses. First, she reportedly did not care for the turf. Secondly, she got sick soon after; something might have been bugging her internally in the race. ‘WIND regrouped, trained fast, switches to dirt and gets a weight break. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
