Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:55 LRL 2nd LUCCI (#5, 5-1) scored following layoffs of 216 days and 73 days, so guessing he'll be fit following the winter break. Set a pressured pace inside 9-2 Cheers for Kitten (finished eighth) in final start of 2023, then just missed to the rallying favorite. Expect early speed for barn that went 6 for the last 23 (26%, $3.72 ROI) returning from four-month layoffs or greater. -Dan Illman  1:20 AQU 1st ISN'T SHE KHOZY (#3, 6-1) managed just one start as a 2yo last year, that on turf where she landed in midpack early and never made an impression in a race that was dominated on the lead; has much more of a dirt pedigree and starts back on the drop. -Mike Beer  1:32 KEE 2nd Actually like 4yo first-time starters in races for 3yo and up - their maturity edge is greater than the 7 pounds they concede here. ROYAL CAROL (#1, 12-1) didn't even post a timed workout until October of his 3yo year. He worked through December, didn't breeze for about six weeks, but since early February has been on a good pattern. -Marcus Hersh  1:35 OP 1st RIBBONSINHERHAIR (#4, 5-1) gives up recency to these, but last raced against starter foes. -Mary Rampellini  2:04 KEE 3rd STAND BY YOU (#5, 8-1) gets a fresh start on a new circuit for a new barn as he comes back fresh in first start since September. Lost his form after a demanding string of races but at his peak is good enough to win for this $16K tag - has nearly always run at higher levels, too. -Marcus Hersh  2:14 GP 3rd NIKEE KAN (#7, 7-2) still holding form well enough at age of nine to merit respect in this spot getting some much needed class relief off last pair. Beat this same kind including next out high priced optional claiming and allowance winner St Pat's Day from just off the pace on 1/14. Figures to benefit from outside draw. -Mike Welsch  2:26 LRL 5th NIGHT OUT (#6, 6-1) put it all together adding blinkers in maiden score at Fair Grounds, Saved ground in midpack going into the first turn, eased out to track from the two path, made a three-wide bid, then got it done despite seemingly waiting on horses after he made the front. There is a ton of stamina in this pedigree, and he should have enough in the tank to last nine panels. -Dan Illman  2:36 KEE 4th Haven't seen any of those works for debuting SAVE THE TREES (#6, 15-1), but there a lot of them and many have been fast. The trainer doesn't run many these days, but over the last five years has gone a strong 13-3-2-2 with first-time starters. -Marcus Hersh  3:02 TAM 6th TWIZZLE (#1, 5-1) was a game winner in her debut try, and while she was off the board in her first start against winners she had a pace excuse there, as that was a sprint featuring a good amount of speed and she was never able to get close after a slow start; improvement expected, as long as she breaks cleanly from the rail. -Kenny Peck  3:18 OP 4th There are several capable runners in this competitive spot. AIN'T THAT A KICK (#4, 15-1) stumbled at the start last time and made up a good deal of ground in the slop. -Mary Rampellini 4:37 TAM 9th PURE MAGIC GIRL (#10, 20-1) is widest but she has proven speed, and could be quickest of them all out of the gate; thinking she could take them all the way if she can shake loose without much pressure in the opening stages. -Kenny Peck  4:50 GP 8th JIGSAW (#7, 5-1) returns to allowance level, back on Lasix, after being in a bit over head at Tampa. The lone multiple winner in the field should sit a nice stalking trip from his outside gate. -Mike Welsch  4:58 LRL 10th HAVE NO REGRETS (#1, 15-1) took a step forward adding Lasix in his second start. Pulled his way forward to stalk in between, dropped inside on the turn, then finished evenly without threatening. Only finished ahead of the first-time starters in the race, however. Slight class dip might work for a gelding that can run late. Maldonaldo departs for Perspicacious Boy. -Dan Illman  5:34 SA 4th Fast-working 4yo first-time starter FLASH THAT SMILE (#4, 4-1) has been training like a filly who will fire first out including a bullet half-mile (:47) from the gate one week ago. Although none of her four winning siblings won first out, 'SMILE has shown speed in morning drills and figures to show her gas in her debut. -Brad Free  5:58 OP 9th WHERE'S RANDY (#5, 10-1) was a close fourth at this level last time and seems like a logical choice back. He had a less than ideal trip, and earned a Beyer Speed Figure that stacks up favorably in this spot. -Mary Rampellini 9:23 LS 5th ILLUSTRATOR (#9, 15-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).
