DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Friday, April 15, 2022

DRF Staff|Apr 14, 2022
Courvoisier wins the 2022 Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack
Joe Labozzetta/NYRA Courvoisier won the Jerome at Aqueduct on Jan. 1 (above), then faded to seventh in the Withers. He'll try to get back on track in the City of Brotherly Love on Tuesday at Parx.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:50 TAM 2nd MAGIC CASTLE (#6, 6-1) is the first starter out of the dam but Queen of the Spa posted both of her career wins in dirt sprints; sports a couple of works that hint at speed and catches a typical late-season maiden claiming field, and he needn't be a future star for trainer Bernell Rhone to win this. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:00 KEE 1st FIRST DEPUTY (#9, 6-1) won a $20K "beaten" claimer a year ago at KEE in his lone start over the surface. Drops one notch in class and his last five starts have come on a synthetic track, where he's 7-0-0-0 for career. Might prefer a straight 6f to 6.5f but price should be fair. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:32 KEE 2nd PERSONAL BEST (#3, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:57 TAM 4th LOVINGTIZ (#11, 15-1) will need some help getting into this race, as she's the first filly on the Also Eligible list, but if she gets to run she has to be considered a threat by default given trainer Antonio Machado's record with firsters; dam was best sprinting on the main track but she did produced a two-time turf winner in Beautiful Tiz. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:00 OP 1st TRAFFIC CONTROL (#7, 3-1) gets the nod on the move back to two turns, site of his best career Beyer Speed Figure. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:04 KEE 3rd CARILLO (#5, 8-1) has not panned out since being privately purchased out of his career debut, but first time in for a claiming price could finally get these connections a win with the horse. Last three have been turf, slop, slop, and his previous dry-track form would give him a good chance. Admittedly, those competitive performances came at distances longer than this. On the other hand, he gets seven pounds with presence of competent bug rider. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:23 AQU 3rd TASWEYA (#4, 12-1) overcame some greenness to overrun maidens in her debut late last year, then stretched out for the Tepin and brought that field to the top of the stretch before giving way; back to sprinting on the turf for her second start as a 3yo. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:28 TAM 5th SEVENTY SEVENTYCAT (#5, 7-2) went down as the favorite in his most recent try but that was actually a very good effort, as he closed some ground late in a race that was devoid of early speed; prior Beyers good enough to make him a late threat today if he can run to those races, and if he gets enough pace he may be able to make the last run. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:08 KEE 5th TALKING BOOK (#8, 12-1) is 1-1 at this nine-furlong trip and should be set to improve, perhaps to a career-best, second start back from a layoff. Throw out the 12f start over the KEE course a year ago - TB pulled furiously for her head much of that trip, giving her no shot at staying the 1 1/2 miles. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:13 GP 5th SUPER QUALITY (#4, 8-1) showed big speed before something went amiss, stopping badly at first asking. Expensive 2yo purchase has shown much promise in the a.m.. Loses the blinkers. Gets a second chance at a decent price if he takes to the Tapeta. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:23 AQU 5th NAKED ON THE BEACH (#1, 6-1) lost position in traffic in her Keeneland debut last April, then appeared to clip heels early in her second start; first race for Maker came off the layoff sprinting on synthetic, where she made a wide run to the lead before coming away second-best; back to turf stretching back out from the rail. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:28 LRL 6th Looking for a price with BATH AND TENNIS (#1, 6-1), who ran a good third at 93 to 1 moving from dirt to turf in first start of 2020. Blanked last year, but don't think she was embarrassed in most recent turf outing last fall. Stalked three wide in a race controlled throughout by the top two finishers and failed to fire at a distance that was a bit too far. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:01 TAM 8th MIKES MAJESTY (#2, 15-1) is kin to five runners, all of them winners, with the best of the lot being Lady Cleopatra, an 11-time winner who earned over $206K; her dam, Ketchmewhereyoucan, won her own debut and went on to win a minor stakes race, doing her best work in dirt sprints. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:01 AQU 8th CONQUER THE WORLD (#2, 5-1) ran an underrated race on debut while sitting behind a slow pace and keeping on gamely for third; stretched out for his second start and overcame trouble at the break to easily run down a clear leader in the stretch; back to turf off the layoff and he has enough tactical speed to keep in range. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:32 AQU 9th THISLADYIS THE LAW (#10, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:10 OP 9th CANDYWRAPPER CRAZY (#6, 8-1) was fourth last out in a quick maiden allowance and the Beyer Speed Figure of 61 that she earned is the co-highest last-race number in this field. She also has an age edge on a number of these as she is 4. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:11 SA 7th FUNNY FELINE (#4, 7-2) stretches to a mile after a dominating maiden sprint win; the improving filly should clear the field and try to lead gate to wire. Though sired by sprinter Smiling Tiger, she is a sibling to route stakes winners North County Guy and Cordiality. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:55 YR (Harness) 1st KEYSTONE DASH (#7, 7-1) is a horse I've been following for a few weeks now and he's had some sneaky pace from tough spots. He lands another outside draw tonight but gets to face a bit softer and he seems capable with a little luck. – Matt Rose | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:10 MED (Harness) 6th TANGO DANCER N (#3, 8-1) hasn’t been able to find her groove in 2022 but really does land in the perfect race this week. I’d expect a down-the-road try here. – Derick Giwner | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

9:45 WBS (Harness) 9th SO MUCH MORE (#7, 8-5) got a tightener in vs. the boys last week and she is always the one to beat facing these mares. I can’t make a case against her; best bet. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
