With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:24 TAM 1st MOR BREEZE (#8, 30-1) is admittedly a reach in this opener but there are a couple of things to like, including the proven speed, the deceptively good works, and the barn’s decent record with horses switching from turf to dirt; also appealing is the expected price, as she may be the right value play against this seemingly average field for this class level. -Kenny Peck 1:34 GP 2nd Third race in the form cycle of DARDANELLOS (#3, 8-1) might see this Duco house horse overtake the early goers; last-out runner-up try at this same level has him on the threshold as the underrated Vasquez looks to make the right late moves. –Marty McGee 2:36 GP 4th A few of these fillies are being fitted with a claiming tag for the first time, and that’s the kind of class maneuver that often results in improved performance. Certainly looking for improvement from TEENAGE KICKS (#2, 9-2) out of one of those rugged weekend MSW sprints at the championship meet; gets Rosario after taking some Rudy regrouping up in Boynton. -Marty McGee 3:24 TAM 7th RISEN CHANGE (#9, 8-1) has been steadily improving of late, and that didn’t chance in her first start off the claim by trainer Tony Wilson last time, when she posted her best Beyer to date in winning by three lengths; she makes the mandatory class rise after beating claiming non-winners of two in that sprint but she may well be good enough in her current form, especially with another step forward. -Kenny Peck 3:35 OP 4th MUCHO MAS (#12, 5-1) must overcome the wide post, but like the fact that she’s stretching out off a series of starts in quick sprint races. She also has faced a number of quality rivals and gets pedigree support for the added ground. -Mary Rampellini 3:39 GP 6th Tons of speed in this basic $10k-starter sprint sure would seem to set the table for KILLA DEE (#6, 10-1), whose recency is so sharp that he might not even need such an edge anyway; call this one the day’s best in looking to stay unbeaten for Crichton. -Marty McGee 3:55 TAM 8th HOLD THE SPICE (#1, 5-1) was moving well through the lane in that local debut last time, a race he may have needed given the five-month layoff; that rally was despite a race flow that favored the speeds, and if he gets quicker fractions and a contested pace up front today he may be able to run them all down on the wire. -Kenny Peck 4:06 OP 5th BETO (#3, 5-1) was third last out in a key race that went in good time. The second and eighth-place finishers from it both returned to win their next starts, each at the $5,000 claiming level at Fair Grounds. -Mary Rampellini 4:36 OP 6th ORO DE TEJANO (#3, 7-2) figures to make good use of the added ground he picks up on the move from seven furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. He is one who has been racing around two turns, on the six furlong track at Delta Downs. Horses coming off that sand-based surface often excel over the track at Oaklawn. -Mary Rampellini 4:41 GP 8th FOUR GRACES (#8, 3-1) might not be a star but is pretty talented. Was late to change leads in debut win & in March 11 work but did so eventually both times and was much better in March 18 work. A little too headstrong early in that 3/18 drill when breaking off inside an overmatched mate but asserted late and galloped out well. Plus that she’s drawn outside the other pace. Trainer Wilkes a rare winner with debut runners and has noteworthy stat: Last 5 years, 3yof making second start following debut win 6-3-2-0. Want Super Cute (#1) in the exacta. – Marcus Hersh 4:41 GP 8th Hard to imagine FINDING FAME (#5, 4-1) being any more impressive than she was in her debut, when she rallied to defeat a field full of top prospects; her HOF trainer surely had her aimed at Kee or Bel for her first crack at a 1x, but here she is, and you know the circumstances involved; no time like the present. -Marty McGee 5:38 OP 8th PIECE OF MY HEART (#3, 10-1) faced winners for the first time last out and ran a credible fourth to a quality winner in Fire Coral. This one is also appealing for her tactical speed. -Mary Rampellini 5:42 GP 10th IRKED (#3, 10-1) took some action in lone start last summer at SAR but ran nary a lick followed by long layoff. Starts over with blinkers off, Lasix on, and surface switch to turf, for which he is very much bred. Lone workout video I found, March 2, looked encouraging, the on-paper work pattern even more so. Good chance to take a considerable step forward. – Marcus Hersh
